La Folia Winery
This one's a keeper! With a recommended aging of 7-10 years, this Super Tuscan style blend of Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese will give you a spicy kick balanced with a fruity mid-palate of Bing cherry and raspberry. Aged 24 months in new french oak. See our pairing recommendations and purchasing options.

You'll want to sit down for this big, jammy Zin. Cocoa powder and blueberry jam are just a few of the flavors you will find in this spicy Sierra Foothills wine. Moderate concentration and silky tannins allow the finish to linger with soft sweet whispers. We barrel aged this one for 19 months in French Oak.
Services
The story of La Folia begins with passion and a little mischief. Winemaker, Ryan Teeter, an Associate Winemaker at Lavender Ridge at the time, was contemplating an exclusive Italian varietal line of wines - leveraging the beautiful grapes in Gold Country. Through a lot of love (and a lot of sampling), Ryan's first Zinfandel was big, beautiful and commanding.
Ryan's first wine tasting experience was in 2002, on a whim, at Thomas Fogarty Winery, in Woodside, California. It was a day that arguably changed his life. While he was in the tasting room, he bumped elbows with Jay Rambeau, the wine buyer for Bianchini's Market, in Ladera, California. Ryan and Jay became friends right away.
The growing region for our Barbera, Muscat Canelli, and Pinot Grigio. This area is perfect for these varietals due to its similarity in climate to northern Italy where the all originate. Wines like these enjoy a longer, cooler growing season. The vineyards here are used to make our Dolcetto, Zinfandel, and Vermentino.
Enjoy quarterly shipments of specially chosen wines either delivered to your door or available for pickup in our tasting room. Receive 10% - 25% off retail wine prices in your wine club shipment and on purchases made in the tasting room. Plus 10% off on our wide selections of hats!. Enjoy complimentary wine tastings for yourself and your guests with each visit to the tasting room.
Easily our most popular wine, our Barbera has subtle aromas of rosemary, over ripe stone fruit and cherry wood smoke on the nose. A touch of lemon zest mid palate helps balance out the red pepper and molasses of this full bodied vintage. Food friendly with endless combinations, from homemade pizza to game meats.

Great wine and great people. The wine is one of my favorites in the Murphys area. Their customer service is exceptional and as a member of their wine club, they make sure to go above and beyond. Can't wait to go back to the tasting room once this shelter in place is over to drink more wine with them.

Absolutely adore this tasting room. It's so fun, and there is an older gentleman at the bar, who is very sweet and very knowledgeable! He's funny and kind as well. My best friend and I went in on a rainy afternoon and had the place to ourselves and were able to chat about the wine with the lovely older gentleman. I can't wait to go back to this location and taste again and buy some more wonderful wine!!

Loved the Italian varietals, especially the super Tuscan. Got to taste a ton of wine for a reasonable tasting fee, which of course was waived with a purchase. So glad we met Rocky, who was great to talk to and made the experience super fun! Would definitely come back for the wine and to hang out with Rocky.

Ryan Teeter makes the best wines in Murphy's. I am a sucker for great Italian wines and La Folia makes great Italian wines. The Sangiovese is a food-lover's wine. It pairs with anything. It's always a special day when I uncork a La Folia Sangiovese.
But don't stop there. The Madness (a Meritage of incredible reds), the Dolcetto, the Primitivo, the Barbera, the Zinfandel...all scrumptious wines at good prices. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Ask questions. We always have a great time at La Folia Winery.

Went there for Wine tasting and unfortunately the puppy entertainment superseded wine tasting. I would not normally provide feedback like this. My prior experience was great so perhaps this was a one off. Sorry I missed trying your tasting.

Friendly folks to sip some great wine with! And while you're at it, have a look at the hats they have for sale. Quite an awesome selection of toppers! The wines are really good, especially the one they call The Madness. Save some room in the car to take a few bottles home with you!

Yum! Super awesome wines. We've been twice and both times have been treated very well. Really great customer service here. They're not "snooty" at all and super engaging with their guests. Try on a hat or twenty!

First stop in Murphys.. was not planning on wine tasting until tomorrow .. but noticed La Folia was open till 6 and decided to give it a shot. So glad we did!! Great wines... hubby fell in love with the Pinot Grigio..Also I liked the Chardonnay ... but you can find good wines all around town... but the knowledge and service we were given was above and beyond!! If you want a great experience wine tasting.. you need to stop by La Folia!! You will NOT be disappointed!! I just hope that they have not set the bar too high for us tomorrow !!

Tried a variety of wines and some off the menu. Liked and purchased a 2012 Zin and 2014 Dolcetto. Good find will return, one of the better wineries in the areas.

We were drawn in by their many hats and while my hubby was shopping and Barbara came over from behind the counter to see if she could offer us any tastings. I did not want to try anything new but she warmly smiled and brought over a white wine to taste. Thanks to Barbara, I fell in love with their Fiano wine and Barbara's wonderful customer service! We'll be back for the wine and maybe another new hat!!

What could be better than wine tasting? Wine tasting, AND hat shopping. I must admit that what really brought us into La Folia was the "free wine tasting" sign on the sandwich board outside. The wine tasting turned out not to be free (and in all fairness, I did not ask about it), but the experience was great nonetheless. The gentleman who was giving us our tasting was informative about each of the wines he was pouring, as well as about the town of Murphys. He was also funny, and kept making light jokes as we tasted. I don't remember any particular wine we tasted, I do remember that

Loved all of the wines in the tastings, but the Zinfandel, Barbera, and Primitivo are my favorites. Owners and servers are passionate and invested in the product. What a fun and educational experience! Classy, but comfortable. The hats are a cool addition too.

Wow.

It's unusual for me to find a wine I totally love at tastings. So to find 3, by the same maker, is really something.

La Folia does reds like nobody's business.

The Sangiovese.
The Zinfandel.
The Madness.

All fabulous.

The owner & winemaker, Ryan, was in house. He was uber easygoing & personable. He didn't go on & on w winemaking lingo that was out of depth; he just...talked. The way you might talk to a neighbor. Props.

The room is lovely & different. There's a wall displaying hats for sale. An entire wall. I would have buckled & bought

Without a doubt the best in Calaveras County. We bought a case as a silent auction item for a local charity. Fell in love with their reds. Napa and Amador wineries can be wonderful but this joint's got serious game.
Go check them out, you won't be disappointed !
Cheers !

La Folia displays such impressive "out of the hatbox" thinking when it comes to experiment-oriented, small-batch artisan winecrafting that it's hard not to come away from a first visit slightly awed by its potential. The current lineup of wines made by Ryan T., the creative mind (and tannin-stained hands, one presumes) behind the whole madcap undertaking, are already extremely good and surprising in their combination of traditional California styling (due in part to an apprenticeship by the winemaker with Michael Martella at Thomas Fogarty Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA)

One of Murphys newest wineries and tasting rooms is La Folia. With the closing of Beaux Cheveaux and Solomon, it's nice to have a new winery for tastings. La Folia is located in the same building as Marisolio (the olive oil and vinegar tasting room).

The wine maker actually works the tasting room. If you have any questions regarding the wines, he is able to answer your questions. The wines are Italian varietals including Pinot Grigio and Barbera. The Pinot Grigio was nice and crisp which is just how it should be. The Barbera was quite smooth and tasty. They even offer a Muscato
