After opening Coffee, Tea and Me in Melrose in 2011, La Qchara owners Lorenzo and Emily Tenreiro were surprised at how popular items such as their homemade empanadas were. It was obvious that the neighborhood wanted more of a good thing, and that's why they opened La Qchara, displaying their passion for Central and South American cuisine.

The food is delicious but we were a bit disappointed by receiving 4 small piece of Yuca fries that we ordered as side. Some menu items have the fries already that I understand 4 pieces is acceptable but when you order as an extra item, we were expecting more than 4 pieces ( pic that we took once we open the box is attached )

Loved the coffee little Cafe setup, but was confused if it was coffee or dining. Well...It is both! Order at counter and sit down. I go the empanadas that exploded with chicken. I loved the light sauce with it too. Also, I got the salad with nice fresh apples! I would have liked to have seen like a lunch combo. The price was $22 with an Ice tea. They also have a rewards program, so have a receipt emailed to you and it enrolls you. Nice and easy! Little chilly on a cold door with the door opening and closing. They could use a door blower curtain.

Good food but lousy customer service. Placed and paid for an order online. Arrived to pick it up about 10 minutes early; the place was busy, so I waited 20 minutes before inquiring. They apparently lost my food order (they had the bakery portion of the order so it was clearly received). None of the staff present were able to issue a refund or approve a replacement for my lost order. I left with no food and a promise that the payment would be refunded the next day. Never happened. After repeated failed attempts to follow up with them, I finally had to write off both the wasted money and the restaurant

La Qchara benefits from being one of the only South American restaurants in the area (if not the only), which makes it unique, and having a nice dining area. But the quality of the food and beverages is not great and the prices are high for what you get. I've given it multiple shots because I want it to be good, but the reality is that you're not going to be wowed by the food here.

I was really excited about this place, but it was a miss for me and my husband. Cilantro tastes like soap for him, so before ordering we asked for recommendations and explained this to them, we swapped the sauce per their recommendations and still they sprinkled it all over the plate and the new sauce had cilantro too 🤦🏽♀️ I would've rather for them to just inform they were not going to be able to accommodate us and we would've understand. Their coffee is great! Some flavors are too overpowering and salty (not as they normally taste, feel like they're over seasoned). Staff is nice

La Qchara has it all
Great Atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and an amazing menu selection with something for everyone very reasonably priced.
I’ve been coming here for years and I only wish I lived closer.
The owners treat you like family and go over and beyond to make sure everything is just right.
I Highly recommend giving them
A try!

Recent update- this is still a great place for casual atmosphere and delicious food. Ownership/ management really nurtures a fun atmosphere.
La Qchara is a Relaxed Neighborhood place where everyone is welcome and the food is WORLD CLASS. (I'm not exaggerating!) . The Lunch menu is huge, staff is nice and prices are reasonable, especially considering the great quality
