As a pastry chef in LA in the 1980's, Nancy Silverton couldn't find bread that was good enough to serve at her restaurant. As a result, she decided to create her own crusty, rustic bread from scratch. She spent a year crafting the perfect artisan bread recipe which was so delicious that she opened La Brea Bakery on La Brea Ave.
A delicious Bloody Mary recipe taken straight from the menu of our very own La Brea Bakery Cafe in Los Angeles, California. I've never met a clam chowder I didn't like until I came here. It was more like a thick white sauce made with flour, cream and cornstarch with some teeny potato bits and clam bits. I threw it in the trash even though I was starving.
Being trapped at Cedars Sinai for a week while my SO was having surgery, I went to La Brea Bakery because it looked more appetizing than the cafeteria. The premade sandwiches are OK. It think the chain was sold several years ago so the quality took a dive.
That said, for all my hate, on Christmas Day when everything else here is closed except for the cafeteria

Only option in the hospital. Took my mom to grab food since she was spending the night with dad. Ordered the Southwest Chicken Panini - simple and basic, hard to mess up, right? Wrong.
Got back to the room, and after paying for a chicken sandwich, received a cheese sandwich. And it was awful. So not only was it not chicken, it was lousy cheese. The bread was also burnt, not toasted like a panini, flat out burnt. Would've went back, but they were already closed.
Do yourself a favor bring food or leave the hospital. You might even try your luck with cafeteria food. Not bad enough people

This place was good and friendly. However I went there for breakfast on a Saturday and we set on the bar. No one would even say hi. Two other people sat next to us (white people) and they were greeted and served why My friend and me kept on waiting. We walked out and asked to speak to the manager and the hostess would not get the manager for us. I called later just to let management know about it so they could fix the problem and they would not let me speak to management. I finally did and I told him that was unacceptable. He was cool about it. However I could not go there anymore.

Why did I go here? It seemed promising and I love La Brea Bakery products. However, the woman who took my order was rude and giggled all the time when I ordered a white mocha. Perhaps I should have ordered black coffee? I'm not sure. The woman who made it was not any friendlier and appeared to be quite inconvenienced. I ordered a plain croissant; there was no offer to warm it up despite the fact that there appeared to be an oven behind her. I was quite perplexed by the customer care here.

I personally think that the food is pretty pricey. It's about $8 for a sandwich. You can honestly get a better tasting sandwich from Judi's or the Sandwich Bar for the same price. Also their soup selection doesn't really change (They only have clam chowder and some other flavor that changes daily), so it does get a bit boring after a while.
My colleagues and I used to get free cookies in exchange for the La Brea bags, but for some reason, they stopped doing that. I personally liked the program because it doesn't hurt to recycle, am I right?

I've ordered so much from this place. I work at Cedars-Sinai so it is very convenient. On the pricier side though. But when you tend to eat all the same places around work all the time, you don't mind paying a little extra for something different. Very busy for lunch. It's a very huge hospital. I will continue to come here because I love their food.

This place is a life saver while staying &/or visiting at Cedars. When time permits I will walk to a variety of places off campus for food, but when you're pressed for time, this is definitely the place to go.
I had stayed by my husband's bed all day, but as soon as he was taken for a test, I knew I had only about 30-45 minutes. La Brea Bakery is the perfect spot to get a good quality meal in that amount of time.

Food is pretty good, but overpriced. And they got my order wrong today so I had to go back, and they didn't even apologize even though I wasted half of my lunch break due to their mistake.
Just changed my review to one star for the customer service. The manager, Veronica Villadoro, yelled back at me when I politely asked to exchange my turkey sandwich (which I didn't realize had bacon because it was under the turkey, and it was not labeled). She told me "look here you can see the bacon" and was incredibly rude in front of the long line of patrons. I am a nurse at Cedars-Sinai

My dear uncle was hospitalized in Saperstein tower (Critical Care division) not too long ago with a complicated DVT. He doesn't have any family nearby so I I visited him several times in September. I must share that Cedars Sinai is a huge medical center, almost like a city within a city. And as a business it's probably expensive to rent a lot of area to run a cafe there. However, as a decision La Brea Bakery probably decided to offset the higher rent charges onto its rich and powerful clientele (which I am sure don't even stop at this bakery to eat). Well, what I am talking about

First time trying this place and I had the Classic breakfast sandwich. It was mediocre at best. I didn't realize that my $8 sandwich was pre made and reheated in the Panini press, then put into a microwave looking type of oven. I wasn't impressed with the taste either, the applewood bacon was flavorful, but the rest, just 'meh'. I would not purchase another sandwich here. The muffins did look good, so maybe if I decide to go there again, I will try one.

Though it's not nearly as good as the full bakery on La Brea, they probably have the best sandwiches on the Cedars campus. The sandwiches are made at the full bakery and they just warm them up here, panini style. As such, there are no substitutions. They also have some decent pastry options. If you're on Cedars campus and want lunch, it's worth the walk.

I frequent La Brea almost daily when I am working. I have to say, out of all of the food establishments in Cedars Sinai, La Brea has the best service. Everyone is always super friendly and very, very efficient. I usually get the clam chowder or tuna melt. Both are great but my absolute favorite is the tuna melt. It is hot and crispy and has a more sophisticated flavor than your typical melt. Yum. They also have some pretty decent breakfast pastries. My only complaint about La Brea - and this goes for much of Cedars food venues - it is VERY expensive. A sandwich and soda will run you around $12

Panini's here aren't bad. Everything is on the pricey side, but then again, it IS located inside of Cedars Sinai, so that is to be expected.
On a few occasions I've popped in to get some soup (always around 11AM-12PM) and they've never had any ready. On one of those occasions (around 11AM) I was told they wouldn't have any soup "for a while". So not sure when their soups are served or how they taste as I've yet to have the opportunity.
It's good for a quick bite to eat on my breaks, but I really only come here if I don't have time to go somewhere

La Brea is a legendary bakery, known far outside LA for its breads. I have given the La Brea location at Cedars a few tries, and I have to say that I am not impressed. It certainly looks nice, with a classy backlit sign, and a bright, spartan interior that is impeccably clean.
The menu is relatively limited: you have 4 breakfast sandwiches, and 4-7 lunch sandwich options spread between those on the menu and those available in the cooler case. There's also an assortment of bakery items that appear to rotate every few days, which adds a nice bit of variety.
So, why 2 stars? Because the

New bakery/lunch spot near the Saperstein critical care tower at Cedars. Starbucks, there's a new kid in town. We've all had La Brea bread, but this is a darling little shop that has pastries, salads, sodas, fruit, yogurt, and flatbreads. And don't forget the sandwiches and salads too. Great staff and quick service. I fell in love with the dried fruit and nut scone and expertly crafted latte, so much that I returned. Comfortable seats and tables outside and a nice new option for some sustenance and restorative time on the busy medical campus.
