Radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer exceeded only by cigarette smoking. Similar to smoking radon is a long-term health threat. Variables include the exposure level and the length of exposure. The Center for Disease Control estimates that living in a home with a radon level of 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) is equivalent to smoking 10 cigarettes a day.
Natural gas and propane gas are used in household appliances such as kitchen stoves, water heaters, furnaces, and space heaters. The type of test we run for gas leaks is the normal standard gas leak test. For gas leak detection we use a handheld combustible gas leak detector sometimes referred to as a sniffer.

My inspector was Mike Collman. He did a fantastic job of helping me get to know my house, and walked me through all the potential issues that he spotted. He was down to earth and realistic with possible solutions. He was thorough and efficient. I would recommend Hawley to anyone and would request Mike by name if I had to do it again.

It was my first time purchasing a home, and my first time going through a home inspection. Mike was extremely helpful, and walked me through everything that he was checking and doing. Anytime there was a problem, he would go over it with me thoroughly. If I had a question about what it might cost, he was helpful in getting me a rough estimate. Mike was very professional and thorough in our inspection. With us buying an older home, we wanted to be there to better understand what he found - he explained everything he was seeing and gave great information on what would be a “must fix” versus a “nice to fix” from his perspective. The inspector was very thorough and explained many items in detail. He took his time and did not rush through. I would recommend Hawley Home Inspections time and again!
Also, I had called up to10 other inspection companies local to the area who either didn't answer their phone or didn't return my calls when they said they would. The first call to Hawley, I was talking with a live person who got me on the schedule within four days. Hawley Inspections was able to get the house inspected the day after I called them. They explained all my options thoroughly and got the written contract to me the same day. They even included a veteran’s discount. The inspector, Kenneth, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took time to point out and explain all the issues he uncovered. Their written report was very detailed. I’m absolutely glad I got their report before proceeding to closing. I’m certain it saved us a lot of headaches and money.
