Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards
Try a selection of our delicious vineyard-designated, small production wines. Enjoy the relaxing, beautiful environment of our tasting room, located only 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara off Highway 101. We also offer private tastings on our nearby ranch by appointment. Our wines - most produced in small batches of less than 400 cases - represent the best of the Sta.

Rita Hills. We invite you to try our selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, as well as some of our Rhone varietals, including Syrah and Grenache. Our wine club offers you the opportunity to select the wines you want to drink. You can completely customize your shipments or elect to enjoy our winemaker's selection twice a year.
Services
Alma Rosa Winery is dedicated to making Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines that express the unique terroir of our appellation, the Sta. Rita Hills. Our wines are layered, vibrant and balanced, reflecting the cool climate impact of the Pacific Ocean breezes that funnel through the unique East-West transverse mountain range of the region.
Alma Rosa Winery was founded in 2005 by California wine industry pioneer Richard Sanford and his wife, Thekla. They named the winery after the 1839 Rancho Santa Rosa land grant that historically encompassed this region of Santa Barbara County. Richard Sanford was the first to plant Pinot Noir in the area in 1971 after detailed research of climate and geologic records.

Wow, super disappointed...We arrived right after 6 pm on Sunday and were told they were closing in an hour but that we could order by the glass or bottle (but no more tastings) so we ordered a glass and headed outside to chairs by a fire pit. When the server came to deliver our glasses she informed us that we should "drink fast" because she was mistaken in understanding their closing time and they actually closed at 6. So, we had the WORST experience of our life at a tasting room because we had to chug our wine as the staff started tilting the chairs against the tables to punctuate the

Stopped in with some friends we met at Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards in Buellton. We tried several Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, Rhone varietals and sparkling wines in an absolutely beautiful tasting room. The service was fantastic and the wines were delicious. Nothing really grabbed us to buy at the time but next time we are in Buellton, we will stop by Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards for another tasting and see what they have at that time. We do recommend checking them out if you enjoy these styles of wines and are in Solvang/Buellton.

Located in Buellton off a picturesque country road, the Alma Rosa winery and vineyard is a lovely place to spend an hour or two for a tasting. The original house on the property was built over a hundred years ago and in 1971 Richard Sanford grew the first Pinot Noir grapes in area on this estate.

Channing and Teresa are excellent hosts and also run the Alma Rosa tasting room in Solvang. Great people and you are in for a wonderful experience on a gorgeous estate if you book your tasting here. Perfect for elevating bridal showers, anniversary parties and other special occasions to VERY special

My husband and I used to be members here for over a decade, starting at the old shack and long before Richard sold his share to the new owners. Unfortunately, over the past several years, the new owners have changed the direction of the wine and winemaking practices and now that Richard has officially relinquished his involvement and stepped away from Alma Rosa's winemaking and wine-growing process, the new growers and winemakers no longer farm organically. Any release after 2019 will no longer be organic. This includes the beloved El Jabali vineyard. We are sad that after all these years

Wow. I can't wait to return!

This place blew my expectations out of the water- and they were already high from industry recommendations! Came for a midweek tasting and stayed for nearly 3 hours chatting with the pourer and geeking out on the wines.

We loved the 2018 Pinot Noir from Transverse Valley (ended up leaving with a few bottles) and the 2017 Blanc de Blanc from the Santa Rita Hills (because we were feeling celebratory)!

Would definitely recommend stopping by for a tasting if you are in the area!

**Big thanks to Monica for being an exceptional human and making our experience a celebration

I was spoiled & tried this winery first of the day so I didn't realize how great it was until I tried another. I love the vibe of the tasting room (the skylight is so cool), our waitress was amazing and very knowledgeable, and the wine was great. Our favorite wines were the pino blanco, the rose with the "wet stones" aroma (first one in the tasting menu but forgot the name), and the transverse valley pino. Water was free and bathroom was available, unlike the next one we went to! Would definitely come here again!

Not accommodating and very rude. Staff here needs some customer service training. Wine was below average. Much better choices in the area. I highly recommend skipping this one.

Right when you walk in there is a sign that says " No Minors, No Outside food" So this started out pretty negative at the get go. If we wanted to taste inside the tasting room, we had to purchase a cheese plate. If we had our own cheese plate to consume outdoors, it was not allowed. The wine was ok. The experience wasn't great. Won't be going back. Too many rules!

We came in late with a big group and Lindsay was quite busy. We had specific table requests (didn't want the sun) and were kind of a pain at first. Lindsay had a wonderful attitude and made us feel very welcome. Will DEFINITELY be back! Great wine & friendly staff!

My husband and I had the pleasure of sampling Alma Rosa's wines this past Valentine's Day. What could have been a harried experience was made pitch perfect by our hostess Monica. The wines were balanced and bright as was her care. The tasting was held outdoors with more than adequate social distance. Brava!

Ok well we were just going to go in for a quick tasting- half hour before closing- were even going to tell the girl we would pay ahead to not keep her but she was so unfriendly we didn't even stay. It's wednesday jeez- Be more polite at least- you could have made some tip money and still got out early.
Won't be back.

This review is for the Alma Rosa Private Estate Tasting and it was amazing! Teresa led us through the wines and was wonderful and kind. We were there for my husband's birthday and had a party of 3. We made reservations and it was $55/person. This included the wine tastings and cheese pairing. Teresa also picked up a cupcake for my husband, which was so sweet and appreciated.

The wine is fantastic. The whole area produces delicious varietals, but this winery does a particularly great job with Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir is mind blowing.

Between the delicious product

Alma Rosa has amazing wines! Not good wines, not great wines but AMAZING wines. Richard Sanford's legacy lives deep within this winery. He is the man, the legend who brought Pinot Noir grapes to the Santa Rita Hills and of course now it is regarded as one of the best Pinot regions in the world. He is very active with Alma Rosa and even hosts wine events at his El Jabali vineyard where he resides.

The Tasting room is awesome, ask the story of the olive tree in the middle of the tasting room. I love the staff and they have a great club with free tastings for four people with membership

Super cute tasting room. Tastings were limited to an area outside because of Covid. But we appreciated them being open. Everyone was masked up and took proper precautions. Lovely whites. Super crisp and refreshing! Food on either side as well.

We came here with friends to celebrate a birthday. When we entered we were not greeted in the most friendly manner by this woman and actually contemplated leaving. She came over to us and dropped the menus and walked away. We had to flag her down to get glasses of water. As we started to discuss whether we should leave, someone else came to help us and we are glad he did. I believe his name was Kevin and he really took the time to tell us about the history of the winery, each of the wines we were tasting, and patiently answered all of our questions. He was outgoing, extremely knowledgeable, and

My husband and I had a lovely time on a beautiful evening, enjoying a delicious glass of bin 115 Pinot Noir. Our server couldn't have been nicer and very knowledgable about the different wines. The tasting room is next door to Industrial Eats which is also a plus as they have amazing food which can be served on the winery's patio. We live in Santa Monica and I can't wait to go back and buy a bottle of their wonderful wine. As a side note, the tasting room itself is beautiful!

Outstanding wines! Lovely tasting room (love the olive tree). Huge thanks to Johnny for making us feel so welcome! It was also a very pleasant surprise (and an honor) to talk to Richard Sanford (the winemaker and a Pinot Noir pioneer in Santa Ynez).
