Mais Fica Winery
Mais Fica is a small, family-owned vineyard and winery in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We produce Rhone style wines, exclusively, from our Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah grapes. Our focus is to produce the highest quality fruit possible from our vineyard to ensure the finest wine. Mais Fica means "more for me" in Portuguese and was a favorite expression of Marty's grandmother, Margaret Azevedo.

She used it most frequently when her many grandkids did not eat all the food she lovingly served them. We truly hope you enjoy our wines, but heck, if you don't, mais fica! Our wine labels and our website page header feature a colorful Portugese rooster, which is the national symbol of Portugal and symbolizes honesty, integrity, trust, and honor -- all values which are important to us and our winery business.
Services
Marty and Eileen first started making wine in the basement of their Redwood City home with a 1998 Barbera. After receiving numerous awards as home winemakers and repeated requests from family and friends for more wine, they decided to venture forth in planning for a commercial vineyard and winery. In 2001 they purchased their 10 acre estate in Placerville and started planting the vineyard.
As a micro boutique winery and vineyard we can do more things by hand and in small lots that larger wineries cannot afford to do. We plan to limit our production to less than 500 cases per year. The grapes are hand picked and sorted before destemming and crushing. Fermentation takes place in small open top bins which allows for punching down manually three times a day.
The Mais Fica estate vineyard is situated in the Northern California Sierra foothills, half way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Located in the Pleasant Valley district of Placerville, at an elevation of 2500', we are surrounded by pines and oaks. A snow covered peak of the Crystal Basin mountain range accentuates our beautiful setting and vineyards.
If you sign up for our mailing list, you will receive a newsletter through the mail providing you with the latest information about our wines and other information we think you may find interesting. When a new wine is due to be released, we will send you an announcement and order form giving you the opportunity to purchase the wine before its release to the public.

This winery is not open to the public. Tastings are limited, to events 1-3 times a year. Per the owners, who responded within 6 hrs of my contacting them on their web link, "some of our wine is
at Amador 360 in Plymouth. We also have an Open House once per year for our
mailing list customers. If you're interested, this year it's on September
15th 2018, and we will be pouring some of our wines. You'll need to get on our
mailing list for an invite. We'll also be at the Placerville Art and Wine
event on Oct. 20th, 2018
Once I have the opportunity to go to either event

We have heard great things about the wines from here but when we drove out to do a tasting the gate was closed and no one was home. Call ahead to schedule I guess.

Nice to enjoy a little nod to my proud heritage in the El Dorado wine country! True, these are not Portuguese varietals, but they are grapes lovingly grown by Portuguese people.

A private tasting and a tour of the grounds is available by appointment only. Mais Fica is a small operation out of Placerville, California, but Eileen and Marty enjoy visitors! Multiple County and State Fair award winners, the wine they make here is delicious, and their property is beautiful. Wine tasting, cheese munching, cracker crunching, chatting, and enjoying a beautiful day on their private veranda was a lovely
