Constant false fire alarms with varying excuses. Management ignores safety concerns like other review mentions of residents being conditioned not to exit by claiming this is something that rarely happens. Except it’s happened over 7 times now in the span of a month. No compensation nor accountability for residents whatsoever, and even the emails alerting us about the false alarms have become more and more vague with the reason for each false alarm.

Don’t move here unless you want to have to evacuate the building 3 times in the same WEEK due to false alarms. We have false alarms pretty much every week, even occurring in the middle of the night/early in the morning— it is literally 1:44AM and I am standing outside as I write this. The one time we had a real major fire, only a handful of people left the building right away because we’ve been conditioned to ignore these alarms. The management has claimed that repairs are being done on the fire alarm system, but it’s been months of this without resolution which leads me to believe that

Some employees openly defiant or ignorant of the Montgomery County mask mandates. Elevators are always very slow. Still being charged for amenities that no longer exist, like building-based pool and gym. Urine found in the elevators, stairwells, and hallways at least once/week. I would honestly leave < 1 stars if I could.

I was thrilled to tour this place because of the location and the windows in the units are really beautiful. I scheduled a tour online for a weekday at 9AM. I I walked into the office and no one acknowledged me. I waited a few minutes because I understood if they were busy, but still nothing. Ive toured countless apartments in my renting experience and that has never happened to me. Though I booked the tour 4 days in advance, both people in the office were unaware a tour was scheduled for 9am. They were visibly annoyed that they had to deal with me. I lived in the Monterey apartments for 9 months between 11/18-08/19. Pros: view is great, bedrooms are very spacious and lots of natural light. Great location, walking distance to restaurants and stores. Leasing process was actually very smooth. If you need a repair, it comes very quick. Cons: There is a major rodent problem. Elevator is under repair very often. There are four elevators for this large building so when one goes down, there is a rippling effect for the whole apartment. Scheduled a tour over the phone. The First Lady didn’t want to us to go to the leasing office until I showed her the email with the appointment.
We walked in and there was a lady and a guy sitting there. Neither of them introduced themselves. The guy didn’t even want to give a your until I showed him the email. My boyfriend was a resident at this location and also had a friend that lives at this location and it’s just awful all around. Elevators never work, garage doors are never actually closed and you’re paying extra for it. Maintenance is requested once weekly because everything breaks down. And when you move out they try to charge you for the things that aren’t fixed when you originally placed the request. Would not recommend to anyone! Also there is no central air so the AC is not turned on until May! Just awful.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect at first when walking in, however The Monterey leasing staff AB, India and Ty were GREAT! They all were nice and professional. I just recently applied and honestly I can’t wait to be a resident with all the new renovations coming ahead! If you are looking for a good location, polite staff, and easy metro access YES! The Monterey is the right fit for you.
