Services
Kankakee Animal Hospital was established by Dr. Murry, Sr. in 1954. In those early days, the hospital was located on West Station Street in Kankakee. After Dr. Gunning joined the practice, a new building was built at 2045 S. Schuyler Avenue in 1964. This is our current location. The practice has always specialized in small companion animals, primarily dogs and cats.
Dr. Joe Abrassart graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1995. He has worked at the Kankakee Animal Hospital since 2002 and took over the practice in January of 2013. He enjoys building things, rooting for the Illini and the Cubs, fishing, and being outdoors.
We are committed to providing quality Veterinary medicine along with friendly, compassionate service. We offer boarding 365 days a year for both dogs and cats. If you are leaving for just a day or for several weeks and want someone to take great care of your family pet please give us a call. We offer drop-off and pick-up times 7 days a week.
Recently moved here so I needs a new vet. This practice exceeded my expectations. The vets are friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. The rest of the staff is also helpful and supportive of pet owners. My dog is currently sick and the vet staff and support staff have been bending over backwards to help me take care of him.

I took my cat to have her put down. I expected to be able to stay with her during the whole process. They took her and put her under anysthesia then brought her to me. As I was saying my goodbyes they told me she would not hear me. How comforting as I'm standing there in tears and my heart is breaking....

I came in first thing in the morning with no appointment and a very sick puppy Dr. Moler saw us right away she gave my Daisy May 3 shots fecal exam fluids and Karo syrup for her blood sugar we could not pay the whole bill for my Daisy May's treatment as we are low income so the staff broke it up into weekly payments HOW ELSE DOES THAT???....Unfortunately my Daisy May passed that afternoon 😭 ....She was just too sick!!!!...But we are very grateful to Kankakee Animal Hospital and their amazing staff for all they did for us and Daisy May!! Without them I don't think Daisy May would have even made

Whoever is the overworked person at the desk is unprofessional and rude. We rushed our dog in just before closing as he was extremely ill. The lady at the desk told my husband they couldn’t see him because they were behind and they closed at 5, but could make an appointment 4 days later. Our little dog died that evening. It breaks my heart that this hospital has changed so much since we first took him and our other dogs there in 2008 when they would have stayed an extra 15 minutes to try and save his life.

Our dog Basil sure likes coming here. It’s always a rowdy place with other dogs.. but Basil feels pretty comfortable, which is important. We wish there was a little more education in the visit, it’s generally just shots and assessment. We see Dr. Lisa Moeller. It’s not a perfect place, but we would recommend it. We plan to have Basil spayed here in early September. Dr. Moeller is a little more on the efficient, no nonsense side of the spectrum rather than frills and overly friendly side. But like I said, Basil likes her and is excited to see her.

Usually had good experiences there until today. No one there was wearing masks- not the receptionists, not the doctor, not other customers. Dr got annoyed at my 13 week old puppy for crying when she got her vaccine. She was not treated with care. Also charge $15 for a nail trim. It is free at Bradley. Will not be taking my puppy or other pets there again

Our Family Has Been Taking Our Pets To Kankakee Animal Hospital Since The Senior Dr. Murray opened it . we have always received Great Care there.
And over the years the Vets may have changed but the Care has Always been Excellent. We had a 12 year old Husky that developed what in the end turned out to be Lung Cancer, Dr. Joe had absolutely no problem advising us to go down to the U of I for further testing and or treatment.
Everyone in that Office showed so much care and concern for not just our Sasha but also for us, in the end a Year and a Month later we made the decision to end her suffering

Never again. VERY Poor standard of care. Lacks both skill and knowledge.
I took my dog there when she developed a lump on her rear hock. Dr. Joe assured me he was certain the lump was nothing more than a hygroma and he was confident it could be removed with ease. I made an appointment to have the procedure done a few days later. I was quoted a price of $150 and understood that sometimes the final cost changes depending on how the surgery goes. However, when I check-out later that day, the priced ended up being more than double without any additional services or medications being administered
