Buying a home? The process can be stressful. A home inspection is supposed to give you peace of mind, but often has the opposite effect. You will be asked to absorb a lot of information in a short time. This often includes a written report, a checklist, photographs, environmental reports, and what the inspector himself says during the inspection.
A general home inspection is a non-invasive, visual examination of the accessible areas of a residential property (as delineated below), performed for a fee, which is designed to identify defects within specific systems and components defined by the standards below that are both observed and deemed material by our inspector.
A home inspector should provide you with the knowledge and education of the home you own, or the home you are buying and provide a comprehensive report detailing the home and his findings. Some inspectors will simply give you a report full of check boxes and a sentence here or there where they find a deficiency, or only a list of pictures and deficiencies.
I used Veritas when purchasing my second home after having a less than ideal inspection of my first home. The differences in inspections were astounding. First, it was clear that Tom and Jeff had a very in-depth understanding of structures and the inner mechanics of a home, which makes sense as they are both Professional Engineers.

Second, they took their time on the inspection and even allowed me to tag along and ask questions. This probably added a considerable amount of time to the inspection, but they did not rush me at all. Lastly, they provided a very detailed and "in plain english" report
