I pride myself on my conservative, yet comprehensive treatment philosophy in caring for my patients. I believe first and foremost that educating and informing my patients is the foundation of developing a trusting and long-term relationship that will lead to a lifetime of dental health. The ultimate decision about what to use is best determined in consultation with your doctor. Before your treatment begins, discuss the options with your doctor. To help you prepare for this discussion it is helpful to understand the two basic types of dental fillings: direct and indirect. Traditional dental restoratives (fillings) include gold, porcelain, and composite/amalgam.
I grew up in the greater Philadelphia area and headed to the Midwest when my family moved during high school. I earned my undergraduate degree from Aquinas College, a liberal arts college in Michigan, which I loved because it offered great diversity and a well-rounded education. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Dentistry in 1997 and my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Illinois in 1999.
Patients with dental insurance receive out-of-network benefits. Even though our office is out-of-network, we work to ensure patients receive the highest coverage possible under their insurance plans. Payment Policy Once our office establishes a working relationship with a patient's insurance carrier, we accept assignment of benefits directly to our office.
Everyone's favorite dental appointment is their hygiene visit because they get to walk away confident with their brightly polished teeth and fresh-smelling breath, but while the appointment may seem like a breeze, there is actually a lot happening that is imperative to maintaining your long-term dental health.

Dr Knabe has been my dentist for more than five years and I recommend her to everyone. Not only does she know her kraft and is an exxperienced professional, she also cares about her patients and listens to them. Whenever I've had a dental emergency she has done her best to fit me in, even if it's been outside of her regular business hours.

I really enjoy visiting with Dr. Knabe. She is thorough, efficient and explains everything. My last dentist had a flashy practice with a lot of marketing and BS. He wanted to sell me on a bunch of expensive and unnecessary work. I came to Dr. Knabe for a second opinion. Dr. Knabe was honest and conservative about what I actually did and didn’t need. I trust her judgment and experience and am so happy I switched to her practice. My husband and I have been going to her for almost 3 years now.

Dr. Knabe is an incredible combination of professional, talented and compassionate. Our family is so happy to be counted among her patients. BEWARE. SHE DOES NOT ACCEPT BCBS. I was a patient for several visits. She never was honest about her "out of network" status. She was continuously misleading in her pricing. Valarie was very uninformed when it came to billing. I was never told they were out of network. Very unprofessional. Who in there right mind would pay for dental procedures out of their pocket when they have BCBS. Unethical, Misleading,Unprofessional and Dishonest.

Honestly, I'll never go to anyone else for my dental care as long as Dr Knabe is in practice. This is not a one-time review, I've been to over 4 visits for routine care. Dr Knabe and Valarie are incredible, make you feel like your dental care is the most important thing in the world for that moment in time, make you feel like you're family, and deliver top notch dental care. Best and most personable dentist I have ever met! I was referred by my husband who always raved about her and encouraged me to go but I tended to go to dentists that were closer to where we lived. After a disappointing routine cleaning at my previous dentist, I was told I had 3 cavities (never had a cavity in my life and I'm 31) and it was all very doom and gloom until I made an appointment for a second opinion with Dr. Knabe. This is one of the rare dentists that actually does almost all of the cleaning and checkup themselves. Seems like most places a dental tech does everything, then the dentist comes by for 30 seconds and looks inside your mouth, and moves along. Not Dr. Knabe - she is very thorough, and also really takes time to teach you about oral health and what you can do differently to help your teeth and gums. She will be my dentist for as long as I live in Chicago!

I, too, am surprised by any positive reviews. Her office is unprofessional and uninformed about the dental plans they cover. She is listed as a participant on plan sites yet her office doesn't provide coverage.
I also found her very money focused and not patient oriented. For example, she doesn't return calls. In Chicago, there are dentists with far better dental experience and educational credentials. And, dentists who are also patient focused. I strongly encourage you to explore one them.

Just updating my review. Yes she's a great dentist, but I thought she cared more about me. I found her on Living Social for a cleaning, and kept going there after without insurance. She gave me a little discount so I could afford it and I liked going there, and I actually enjoyed it since her and I talked a lot about our lives, our relationships, etc. Then I tried to make an appointment for a regular cleaning and she is "no longer giving discounts" to anyone. I have Cigna Dental Discount Card (not insurance). When I called to make an appointment the receptionist acknowledge that t Dr. Knabe takes Cigna Dental Discount cards.
However, when I inquired about the fees, the receptionist couldn't string her story together.
To make a long story short. Dr. Knabe's office was not aware of the Cigna fee schedule because they do not participate in Cigna Dental Discount Plan! I was lied to!

The cleaning itself was fine, but based on my experience I think Dr. Knabe and her office administrator lack integrity. When I set up my first appointment I asked the administrator what the out of pocket expense would be. She said she would have to check and get back to me. I never heard back, so when I went for my appointment, I asked again and didn't go back for the cleaning until she called the insurance company. Not like Dr. Knabe needs another glowing review, but here it is! I just came back from one of the most thorough cleanings of my life...and most pleasant too. Dr. Knabe is so sweet, personable and meticulous. She spent a whole hour scraping away and then buffing my teeth (because as she said, "you can't wax a car without cleaning it first."). I feel like my mouth is practically tartar-free now! She also took time to walk me through my x-rays and discuss any potential future gum issues (gotta start flossing now...). I had my first visit with Dr. Knabe today, using a LivingSocial deal for an exam, cleaning, and x-ray. Admittedly, I haven't been to a dentist in a couple of years and warned her up front.
She was great, allowing plenty of time to talk about the issues I'm having and the things I want to focus on fixing now. She also gave me a thorough teeth cleaning (apparently, I have tenacious tartar!), and went over my x-rays with me while carefully explaning what she's seeing.
We've set up our next appointment for some needed maintenance on existing dental work and I can't wait

Last night was my first experience with Dr. Knabe and I absolutely love her! She is very thorough and explained EVERYTHING she was doing. I only went in for a cleaning, but she took a lot of time to talk to me about my teeth as well as my other dentist experiences, which weren't all that great! I came to Dr. Knabe because I was unhappy with my previous experience with a different dentist. I checked Yelp for some good feedback on dentists and Dr. Knabe had great reviews. And now I know why! After 26 years, I have finally found THE dentist.
I've had many terrible experiences with dentists and she makes me forget all my horrid past times at the dentist!
Dr. knabe is very personable, detail oriented, just simply amazing. If you don't understand something she says, she will even draw things out to help you understand! She takes her time and NEVER makes you feel unwanted or rushed. From the moment you step into her office being greeted by her receptionist to the moment you leave, you will walk out feeling like a superstar.

Just a wonderful dentist who is caring, attentive, and very thorough. I used a Swoop from YouSwoop and was treated so so well. Michele really wants to get to know and help her patients as much as possible.
I am sure you will have as amazing an experience as I had at her office and would recommend her to anyone, even if you haven't been in a while. Office staff is really sweet too :) Will certainly be back for regular check-ups!

Going to a new dentist can be scary, but Dr. Knabe was wonderful! I have lived in Chicago for almost 6 years now, but I usually wait until holidays and go to the dentist I have been seeing since I was 12. Unfortunately, I don't make it to Memphis as often, so I took a chance and bought a YouSwoop deal for Michelle's office.
