Had a great experience with Dr Allen back in July for first cleaning at their office. The cleaning came with a summary of current state of my teeth (so informative). A really friendly, communicative, and professional staff, from receptionist to hygienist to Dr Allen himself. Just a few minutes ago, an old crown fell off my tooth. Even though it is after hours, Dr Allen advised me on next steps for soonest possible treatment.
Wish I had known about them years ago but am happy to be a client now.

I would have given 0 stars if that were an option. I was a first time patient so I called around to south loop dental offices in the neighborhood to see who accepted my BCBS PPO dental plan. Sloop verified with me that they accept the BCBS plan. My policy covers 100% of 2 cleanings per year. About 2 weeks after the cleaning I get a call from their offices that I owe a balance. They notified me that my insurance only covers 60% of their services. Which leads to the review: 1) They either knowingly lied/misled me and told me that my insurance covered their services - 2) Did not know what insurance

I am new to the area and went in to see if they were accepting new patients and they were! I was also having tooth pains and they got me in same day! Dr. Allen listened to me even though and relieved my tooth ache! Thank you to the whole team who were nothing but wonderful to me! Can’t wait to go back!

I had a good experience after not going to the dentist in almost18 months due to the pandemic. I just knew I was in for a rough time, but the experience was nowhere near to what I was expecting. Stacy did a really great job on my teeth. I really appreciated that she did not use a drill on my teeth which I cannot stand. She used the pick to remove all the tartar buildup and I did not even have to mention that I prefer using a hand pick! Also, she was so careful and gentle she never once nicked my gums. I will be coming back here for sure. Thank you for making a dreaded experience a decent one for

Love this place. I have been coming here for 5 years. They offer top-notch service, personal attention. They had no appointments but Jordan to the rescue. She promised to call if there was a cancellation and she followed through. The hygienist Stacy is awesome. As she was cleaning my teeth, she gave me a thorough explanation about brushing and regular checkups. I have never paid much attention to my teeth as I've always had no cavities so assumed my teeth were perfect. Now that I am getting older, I have a lot more questions about teeth and had to admit I really haven't been paying attention to

I have nothing but positive things to say about Sloop Dental! The front desk staff, my dental hygienist Stacey, and Dr. Allen were all so incredibly kind and professional. They took the time to explain my expected cost prior to my visit taking place, which has never happened for me before. All appropriate precautions were taken for COVID and the suite was very clean. Dr. Allen explained the state of my teeth/gums and next steps in a calm, respectful, and knowledgeable manner. I would highly recommended Sloop Dental and will definitely continue to use them for the coming years!

Very kind staff. Dr. Allen was straight forward and very mindful of my past experiences with other dentist. He created a treatment plan to address the immediate work needing to be done & took time to thoroughly explain the process. We took our daughter who's 4 for the first time and she did great! Dr. Kenny and everyone in the office made her feel very comfortable in the dentist chair with their tv screen that she got to pick her favorite show which was a great distraction ! When she was finished she was taken to the treasure chest behind the front desk too and she also picked out toothpaste and a new tooth brush ! The office is very clean and well kept up.
There's also an amazing park right across the street for dogs and the kids, great location for I dentist office for families who have kids!

Great staff - professional. Friendly, clean and put you at ease. Came here because my last two Dentists were dissapointing, and I had a few issues that were worrying me. Dr Allen's thorough assessment and plan gave me the confidence I needed and reduced my fears. Super guy!

My husband has been coming here for a few years for cleaning/standard dental stuff as well as Invisalign. He's been telling me come and he was right!

The hygenist Stacey is amazing. She makes my daughters want to get teeth cleaned and they actually ask me if they can go to see her again. The previous receptionist Sarah is also the sweetest person. I don't have much interaction with the new receptionist yet. Their office is always clean and pleasant. The appointments are efficiently done. I have not had major teeth work done there yet, but Dr Allen always seemed professional. We're new in the area and found this place on yelp. So we decided to try it out based on the good ratings on yelp. This place is convenient and can seem to accommodate you even at a short notice. (That's actually a red flag, I've realized-they're not as busy). I've had a few visits and the rest of my family started coming here. Fortunately my family s teeth has had no issues so we've never really had Dr. Allen work on any of us. The dentist filled my teeth in such a way that the sides (facing other teeth) were not fully smooth. So over the years, floss would get caught on them. And finally this year, one fell out. Another was cracking. Luckily, I found a dentist near me to quickly replace the two. And while the new dentist fixed the fillings, they noted issues with the previous ones in terms of craftsmanship.

DO NOT go here. They list themselves as being in network for Humana, and then charge as out of network because they never updated their tax documents. It has been 6 months now and they are trying to make me pay cash for services because of their mistakes. I have spoken with the insurance company multiple times who continues to say that they haven't updated their tax documents and they don't answer the phone when Humana calls them. A complete scam. My experience with Dr. Allen started over a year ago when we moved to Chicago and needed a local dentist. I came from a dentist I'd known for many years, having a lot of respect for, and giving a lot of deference to him in decision making for my mouth. I carried this respect and deference to Sloop, which turned out to be a mistake.
After my first cleaning, Dr. Allen was adamant that I had a major cavity to one of my teeth, claiming it needed to be filled right away. I found this odd, as I experienced no pain, but since I'd had cavities filled in the past and I come from bad teeth genetically

I love Sloop Dental. I was one of those "avoid the dentist for as long as possible" kind of people... to the tune of like 8+ years. I knew I needed a cleaning and wellness check badly. And I knew that some dental work done years ago was in need of repair.
Dr. Allen was great. There was no judgement -- just straightforward, no-nonsense explanation with photos about what needed to be done. He provided a recommendation for treatment, phased out over multiple appointments, but left the decision up to me.

I started going here about 2 years ago. I needed a general checkup and possibly a mouth guard. Everyone there was awesome. The hygienist was super friendly and they remember little details about you when you come back 6 months later. Just a small thing that makes you feel more welcome. She did a great job cleaning my teeth and eased up when she hit sensitive areas. As for Dr. Allen, I've got nothing but good things to say about him. I had my first visit at Sloop today. It was a great experience. The first noteworthy point about their clinic is they start appointments at 7AM- something great for a city dweller and worker. They were able to fit me in within a few days of calling to schedule. The receptionist was bright and cheery. The dentist is not always the most fun doctor visit so we were off to a great start.

Positives: The receptionist is stellar and the facilities are very nice.
Negative: Dr. Allen. I found him to be very irritable and condescending. I have visited Sloop dental three times. During a procedure, Dr. Allen was clearly annoyed and visibly frustrated with the assistant. He spoke down to him with plenty of exaggerated huffing, puffing, and banging right in front of me. Very unprofessional and pretty awkward for the patient.
During my third visit, he couldn't have been more condescending towards me if he tried. I almost said as much, but I thought it would be unwise to piss off someone

I came into SLOOP about 20 minutes before they were closing as I was in a lot of pain and needed my tooth looking at. Dr. Allen was happy to take the time to investigate. He diagnosed a root canal and extraction there and then and had me in for the procedure 48 hours later. Now, having a root canal and a tooth out in one sitting isn't anyone's idea of fun, but Dr. Allen was efficient, professional and had me out of the door in two hours.

My first appointment was for a cleaning, the second for my 6 month check-up and cleaning, and my most recent for a filling.
The things that make this practice unusually good are the hi-tech tools (faster, easier, more comfortable), the communication from reception to the hygienist to the dentist, and most importantly not feeling like I'm getting high pressure sales or unnecessary procedures. I have experienced the opposite

I was very excited to try this dental office, since it's very convenient to my new condo; however my experience here wasn't great at all. I'm actually very confused how some others stated that this was the best dentist they've ever been to. The dentist didn't seem to have great personal skills, however the dental hygienist was really nice.
I left with my teeth not feeling clean, outstanding fees that were not mentioned during my visit for exams (they claimed it wasn't covered by my dental insurance), and having to follow-up myself for a referral to a specialist

My experience, while technologically advanced with an amazing Dental Hygienist (Amanda!) and assistants, as well as front desk staff is NOT enough to get me to ever go back. Dr. Ken Allen is rude to his staff and treats them as if they are nothing. He is condescending to patients, when I tried to ask a question his responses were short and in a tone that one uses on people they feel are inferior. After they emailed me MANY times to reschedule an appointment I canceled, I had no choice but to answer honestly...
