Services
I am a psychotherapist and licensed psychoanalyst and have been working with people in psychotherapy and counseling for more than 20 years. I feel honored with each new client to be part of the marvelous process of inner and outer growth. My clients bring a wide range of challenges: relationship difficulties, family conflict, past traumas, depression and anxiety, obsessive and compulsive behavior, life transitions of all kinds, and many more.
These two remarks reflect the very different needs and problems that people bring to psychotherapy. One person came wanting to focus more on herself and her own needs. Another wants to direct more of his energy outside of himself, taking action in the wider world. Myriad issues spur people to come to psychotherapy, yet a theme that underlies most of them is that things are out of balance and feel stuck there.
Anxiety is the most widespread of all psychological difficulties in our culture, so if you are seeking psychotherapy for anxiety, you are far from alone. But you may feel isolated in your distress. Anxiety can be exhausting and exasperating as you lie in bed awake with worry or wake up with racing thoughts that you feel powerless to stop.
If you are seeking psychotherapy for depression, you may already have been suffering for years. Life can feel like an unbearable burden. Perhaps nothing seems to give any joy or even any simple pleasure. When depressed, you may feel empty and lifeless and like no one understands. Depression can be isolating and even physically painful.
Trauma is of many kinds--from the acute to the chronic, the physical, emotional, sexual, through neglect, political violence, war, natural disasters, and every permutation of these and other causes. With advances in neurobiology, trauma therapy has taken great strides in recent decades, and new approaches to trauma therapy continue to be refined and developed.
