Dr. Oku is a native of southern California, born and raised in Los Angeles. He completed his undergraduate studies at USC with a BA in psychology and at CSULA with a BS in Biology. He received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern Calif. College of Optometry in Fullerton. Since 1985, he has been an independent optometric practitioner, serving in a family eye care setting.

The whole experience was terrible. Both the receptionist and doctor were rude. What really disappointed me was the fact that the doctor lacked interpersonal skills. He had terrible bedside manner when he was handling my eye exam. The office and equipment used was out of date and I will need to get another eye exam with another optometrist. Please find somewhere else to go.

Loved this place, Dr. Oku was great, talks you through the whole exam and explains everything. Good price for exam and lenses for glasses. I first met the male receptionist and he was fine but too serious, not to friendly but he still did his job just fine. From going in a few times, I got to meet Dianne the other receptionist and she was totally different. Super friendly, she understands your needs and wants and doesn't rush you. I'm glad she's there. I LOVED DR. OKU. I took my 4 year old to get a vision exam. I was worried she was going to be scared or too shy. The staff and Dr. Made her feel welcomed. Before any exam or procedure they He would explain to my daughter what type of exams they were doing so she can get her "magic glasses" (that's what she called them) He was amazing. Had so much patience and took his time with her to make sure she got the right prescription. Seriously recommend him for a child or even adults. Clean and friendly enviorment. I got my glasses there too at an affordable price.

The optometrist was very patient and kind to my daughter and I. I would of gave it one star if it wasn't for him. The office clerks were the opposite very inpatient and rude. First time I was told come back another day since they were going to close. Second time I felt rushed to choose a frame. When I pick up my glasses I felt same unwelcome atmosphere.

Dr Oku is the most helpful optometrist I have seen! He was very knowledgable and I can tell he genuinely cares for his patients. His staff always makes me feel welcome and I actually look forward to coming in! I called on very short notice and am so grateful they understood my urgency and fit me in the same day I called! The office is extremely clean which is one of the first things I look for. The contacts I got from him were the most comfortable lenses I've ever tried and I love wearing them. I also needed antibacterial eye drops because I developed an infection and he actually had them available

I enjoy coming in to see my Optometrist. I have been his patient for over a year now. I had noticed his yelp page and great reviews. I got an appointment and ever since then he has been my optometrist. He really explain how my process has been with my vision. He was very helpful when i had first my first pair of contacts and assisting me to proper use. They even notify me via text my next appointment since a I am always on the run and cant get to the phone the text message is the best way. I recommend it to anyone. Review is for the optometrist, as I did not need use their services for contact lens or glasses. I had a LASIK operation the previous year and needed to check my eye health annually to keep my eyes healthy and maintain my LASIK lifetime guarantee. This is a wonderful office. Dr. Oku is very smart, you can tell by just talking for 3 minutes. PLUS he is soo nice, a very kind person. The most important thing is that he pays close attention to your eye needs, listens carefully to what you say to him, and can answer all your questions. I felt I was in the hands of an expert, and believe me, at my age (older) I've met some people who don't know what they are doing, but I feel very secure with Dr. Oku, knowing that he is taking good care of my vision. I have had the best eye exam experience ever! Have been wearing glasses/Contacts since I was a kid. I have always hated going and getting an exam, answering questions it always feels so impersonal and sterile, not here. Dr. Oku and his staff are so welcoming, friendly helpful, cost and time effective. I had a pleasant visit. Good selection of frames and contacts on hand. Love the staff!

I saw Dr Oku last week because I was in need of contacts asap! It was Cesar Chavez day so I was calling around and no optometrists were in their offices that day.. until thankfully I saw his office on Yelp, gave them a call and thank god he was in! They were very understanding and were able to fit me in that same day. I came in to a very nice, clean office and was greeted and helped out immediately. Dr Oku was easy going, we laughed a lot during my visit and he is without a doubt the most informative optometrist I have had the pleasure of seeing. I was in desperate need for a pair of contact lenses. I went ahead and called to schedule an appointment. The front desk staff was super friendly and answered all my questions in regards of how fast I can get a pair and how much the service was. I came in the next day for an exam. Staff was yet again friendly upon my visit. Dr. Oku came in and started my examination. He was very friendly and I told him I needed a pair of contact lenses for a music festival I was going to that day. He helped me out! He's a really friendly dr and very comforting. I used to visit Dr. Oku because I was still under 18 and my mom dictated where I would go for doctor visits, optometry, included.
Dr. Oku does what he's supposed to, but that's it. Basically, the bare minimum. I would order contacts here and my vision would be subpar, at best. At first I thought it was because my eyes got worse, but that didn't make sense because I just got them.
When I turned 18 and moved out, I searched for a better optometrist and never looked back.

My family has been going to Oku Optometry for as long as I can remember. I am very keen on all of my visits with Dr. Oku. And Jimmy is always a pleasure! I never leave with any unanswered questions and am treated with great care from start to finish. It's an added bonus that I am usually in and out with little to no wait time. Overall great experience and would absolutely recommend to family and friends!

Dr. Oku is my favorite Optometrist in town! I've seen many throughout my years and I honestly have to say that he provides the best service ever! Dr. Oku is very patient and he takes his time and due diligence examining my eyes unlike others who have completed speedy exams and sent me on my way. He is professional yet personable. I enjoy conversing with him while he is conducting the eye exams. I highly recommend him! You won't be disappointed!!

Where do I start, let's just say that if you like the type of visit where you are made felt at home, Dr. Oku will definitely make you feel at home. He is not just an amazing Dr. with top of the line equipment he is a great person. Extremely attentive to his patients needs.
I was referred by a friend and shortly thereafter I referred a friend myself. I will continue to spread the word about this particular office for I have never felt this comfortable with any other optometrist.

Dr. Oku is by far the most patient and thorough optometrist I've ever met. He took his time to make sure you understand everything related to your eyes and actually listened to my concerns. He was really friendly and professional.
The staff was also helpful and courteous. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in the SGV area.

Went in there and was a bit awkward at first what with the stairs taking my breath away haha? Rosa, the assistant, was very helpful in explaining the different type of lenses and add on you can choose for your eye wear. I've had the same pair of glasses for over 5 years and choosing a new one wasn't easy but can't go wrong with a woman's touch, I went with the one she thought was most appealing to her, typical guy
So in all I spent less than my budget of $300
So I'm happy now I wait for the arrival of my new glasses

I found out about this place through Yelp. I saw many positive reviews and being that I'm half Japanese and Dr. Oku is Japanese-American, I gave this place a shot (gotta' support my peoples lol). They also accept my insurance, so that's a plus!
