The Chinese Mixed Martial Arts System Is a Kung Fu system created by Sifu Jonathan Rivera in collaboration with Master Marlon Pilossoph and Sifu Gunn Orachantara at the KO Martial Arts Cultural Center. It incorporates the most effective self-defense techniques from Shaolin Kung Fu, Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Bak Sil Lum, Hung Gar, Eagle Claw, Brazilian JuJitsu, Muy Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Chen and Yang Style Tai Chi.
Chen Style Tai chi training involves five elements and utilizes three aspects of training - health, meditation, and martial arts. Tai chi's health training, concentrates on relieving the physical effects of stress on the body and mind. The focus and calmness cultivated by the meditative aspect is necessary in maintaining optimum balance and cultivating the awareness of chi.
The Yang Style Tai Chi long form that we practice today at Northern Praying Mantis & Tai Chi Martial Arts Center is derived from the teachings passed down by Yang Luchan (1799 - 1872) who learned from Cheng Chang-Hsing who was of the Chen family of Chen Village, Hunan province. He was the first non-Chen family member to master the art and allowed to teach it outside the Chen Village.
Sifu Philip Tambakis is a professional musician and music teacher by trade. Sifu Phil has been training in Chinese Martial Arts for over 18 years.
