Founded in 2002 by Ben Webb, Old North State Winery is unlike any other winery in North Carolina. Born and raised in Mt. Airy, founder Ben Webb studied both Viticulture and Enology in college, and upon graduating, began his quest to make outstanding North Carolina wines by planting a 10-acre vineyard on his family farm in eastern NC.

As the vines matured, he then planted 18 more acres in the Yadkin Valley. With its clay loom soil and mild climate, Ben successfully grew Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Riesling, Petit Manseng, and Carlos and Nobel Muscadines a native NC grape. It would be the grapes from these early plantings that Ben would use to create an outstanding list of award-winning wines.

Great food, great drinks, and great service. We had our microwedding dinner in the Barrel Room and it was wonderful! Becca was wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable about the area, suggesting several places to check out for a ceremony when our plan A didn't work out. Unfortunately, we have several food allergies or dietary restrictions in our family, but ONSW was wonderful about being able to accomadate them. I didn't personally have any of their wine, but my family members who did said it was awesome, and their specialty white Russian was absolutely delicious. Can't say enough good things

This continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Mount Airy. The food is always excellent. Although they are located downtown they are next to an off street parking lot so parking has never been an issue for us. It's a little pricier than other local options but the quality of the food is worth the price. I highly recommend.

I came for the wine, but ended up enjoying my salad, the parade, the guests, and the bartenders even more! Knowledgeable about their wines with a fun and entertaining personality; this was a wonderful experience! Definitely ask about the story behind the Restless Soul wine.

I am been following this restaurant on facebook and was excited to finally eat there. However, I was VERY disappointed. I ordered the seafood risotto. The risotto was excellent. I was hoping for "seafood". It came with shrimp only. It should had been shrimp risotto. The shrimp were very bland, had no flavor. I wanted to tell the server but she did not come back until i was finished. She asked if I enjoyed it and went to tell her about shrimp, which i did not eat, she walked away. Also, it came with two small rolls which were soggy. I ordered my drink of choice, dirty martini. It came

We asked a shop owner on Main where we should eat lunch. Immediately she recommended Old North State and the chicken salad wrap. What a delightful place. Nice ambience, helpful waiter, and the wrap was delicious, a generous size. My side was the seafood chowder, also a flavorful wise choice. My husband chose the chicken stir fry. It was a bit spicier than he'd imagined but he ate every bite. Blue moons for each of us.

The staff were all masked, the tables spaced well.

Highly recommend.

Visited here multiple times and had absolutely great lunches and marginally okay wines. Last night I had dinner (red snapper and jambalaya) and it was totally tasteless. Jambalaya was like canned tomato sauce over rice and the snapper tasted boiled. The seared tuna app tasted fishy and rubbery and not fresh. This meal was one of the worst I’ve ever had anywhere.
I’m going with 3 stars because of the past good experiences and hoping this new menu of the week is going to change quickly before they lose all of their regular customers.

Love Old North State Winery. We stopped in during the Craft Beer and Wine Festival in Mount Airy today. It was crowded but we quickly got a seat at the bar and took advantage of the Dry Wine tasting and had an excellent Lunch. Followed it up with my favorite new mimosa. The grapefruit mimosa. Get one or two! Bartender Nick was very attentive even though they were very busy. He was great and his partner, sorry we didn’t get his name was just as awesome.

If you are in Mt. Airy do not miss this place....be sure, though, to make reservations. We did not make reservations so had to sit at the bar which we enjoyed immensely. The bartenders were SO friendly and knew spot on what I liked. My hubs is a wine drinker and the dry flight matched his taste. We ordered food which did not disappoint. My husband ordered the salmon dish and he is still talking about it. Can't wait to go back.

I had lunch at the Old North State Winery in Downtown Mt. Airy. They offer both inside and outside seating. The restaurant is good sized and the tables were distanced. This was the best meal I've had in Mt. Airy so glad I finally made a stop here.

I ordered the Tenderloin Risotto. It was a work of art when the dish came out and the flavors were very good together. It was filling but I had to try the dessert after a delicious entree. I had the Strawberry Shortcake Cheesecake.

Service was friendly and attentive. This will be my first choice to dine at on future visits.

The wine was decent, not a favorite by any means. They couldn't get their staff together to give decent service which was a huge spoiler too. It took us every bit of 1.5 hours just to get served fries and a tasting...not very impressed.
They did have neat glasses and a great MENS selection of clothing available.

Stopped here for dessert after dinner. Great wine. Good service.
The bread pudding was the winner at our table. Lots of great flavors. Creme brulee was good but they burnt the top so it could have been a lot better. The chocolate cake was pretty great.

Went to this spot on a whim while strolling down Downtown. I was pleasantly surprised with the meal! I had the crab cake which was flavorful and amazingly prepared with veggies and the SAUCE! We also tried a flight of wine which was three half glasses of our choice and I must say the moscato was amazing! Do come here for a romantic lunch.

Blown away by the foods quality and great flavor. Very good portions for the price and in a very convenient location if walking around downtown. Ordered fried green tomato appetizer, came with pimiento cheese and balsamic reduction. Fried Oyster salad and Crab Cake Sandwich with fresh fruit. Sandwich was incredible. Very friendly service.

A really nice find on Main Street Mount Airy. Called ahead and our table was set and reserved when we arrived. Very pleasant waitress. I tried one of the house made Old North State wines, the oak aged Spring House. It was an enjoyable wine with my seafood appetizer of roasted oysters and sea scallop and risotto entree. My family enjoyed the special of the evening, a delicious steak. We would definitely return when in the area.

Been here several times. Never a disappointing meal. Someone here cares how they prepare food. Tried Sunday brunch buffet. Unbelievably good. About $20 each but worth every cent. Always consider this place - pricey so forewarned. Can't believe this is not rated #1 in this town. Good wine, cold beer, great food and service is the standard here.

We went here with a large group and the waiter was efficient. Everyone received the proper order. Didn't care for the poblano dish to much cheese. The ramen dish was the winner! Also the veggy dish. The burgers held their own... they have parking. There's a wine cellar on property. We would go back if in the area.

We locate for a wine tasting in the daytime (well I did he had beer). We liked it so much we came back for dinner! We ordered the special. A New York strip steak with roasted carrots green beans and fingerling potatoes. My guy doesn't eat potatoes so we asked about substitutes. No problem! We had the most wonderful shredded Brussels with bacon and balsamic. We also split the meal, as we are tourists and have no place to take leftovers. The meal came out on individual plates and was beautiful to look at and eat. Our server was so nice and everyone was friendly and kept us happy! The wines

Family outing in Mt. Airy. Looking for lunch took a chance on ONS. Five adults and two children. We were seated promptly in an old hardware store with plenty of history. Loved the decor, original hardwood floor, ceiling with an open atmosphere, you could have a conversation even with a full house.
Nice beer & wine (Fish-hippie) selection as well as drinks for the kids.

The menu is up dated daily with new and fresh items. For an appetizer we had the pork belly collards egg rolls with pickled veggies and a citrus vinaigrette for dipping. All the flavors came together for a party in your mouth

If you love wine and excellent food you will not find a better place then Old North State Winery. My wife Gina and I live in Cary. We've always wanted to visit Mt. Airy after years of watching Mayberry RFD as kids. At the last minute we made plans and stayed at the Sobotta Manor B&B which was excellent by the way. I asked owners Robin and JR what events were happening and they mentioned ONS hosting a new year's eve dinner. We made reservations for the 8:30 seating.

The dinner and atmosphere was fantastic. Honestly we felt it was one of the best dinners we're ever had.

We stumbled upon Old North State after discovering that we were too late for lunch at Snappy Lunch. And I am glad we did! A group of five of us shared 3 different dishes for a light meal - the chicken quesadilla, the ONS flatbread and the salmon fish tacos. All three were good, but my favorite was the fish tacos. It came with 4 tacos and the flavors were very fresh. There was also an insanely tempting dessert case that I would have a hard time saying no to again.

After we ate, we went over to the tasting bar to try some of their wine. You could either choose the dry tasting, the sweet tasting
