The REACH Program helps those with strokes and brain injuries get moving physically, emotionally and socially. The REACH Program was established in 1989 to serve the needs of stroke survivors and acquired brain injuries. We provide educational and rehabilitation services and activities for adults living with recovering from these life-changing events.
REACH classes are taught by instructors who are licensed and experienced specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. The program provides an essential link between outpatient rehabilitation and full reintegration into the community. The benets of the REACH Program are seen in every one of our students.

Services
Strokes change life dramatically and suddenly. So much of what was taken for granted can be lost: the ability to speak, to move freely, to walk, to grasp, to reach, to work and more evaporates in a brief moment. Rehabilitation offers hope and recovery. We fight and strive to gain it all back, go to therapy, do our exercises and home programs and then for many it ends when the system decides we are not making enough progress.
The benefits of the REACH program are seen in every one of our students. The program is fun offering an array of activities including games, creating art, working on communication skills, thinking skills, memory activities and more. Our students come back again and again because they enjoy what we do and they realize that they are improving.
Physical activity is often limited after a stroke which leads to decreased fitness and diminished energy. Impaired mobility and fitness are common post stroke. Activities such as walking, getting up from a chair and lifting things can be more difficult. Increasing physical activity improves fitness as well as energy and mood.
Serving as Executive Director, Donna is our newest member of the REACH Program team bringing over 20 years of varied experience treating Speech and Language Disorders. Donna earned her B.A. and M.A. from San Jose State University in Communication Disorders and Sciences and possesses extensive work experience in the hospital setting.
The Linda DiNucci Scholarship fund has now been established in memory of Linda DiNucci. Linda was passionate about helping stroke and brain injured survivors live their best possible lives, and in 1989 Linda co-founded the REACH Program. REACH was conceived to provide a bridge forward from outpatient rehabilitation to full reintegration into the community.

My husband Ed attended the Reach Program for 7 years after his stroke.
Once he had exhausted one on one therapies, it was suggested that we consider this program. It far surpassed all my expectations. This a group of caring teachers/therapists that make a difference every day.
Ed participated in the group Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy classes. The part I had not anticipated was the camaraderie between the students. The students come from all walks of life with the common thread of their stroke. They were his friends and he rarely missed a class. They encouraged

The REACH Program (Rehabilitation, Education, Acceptance, Community, Hope) provides rehabilitation classes for survivors of stroke and traumatic brain injury. Certified and licensed professionals lead group classes to build both community and skills, in a supportive location served by public transportation that can accommodate wheelchairs.
