Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School began in July of 1990. It has a rich past and is celebrating over 140 years of educational excellence in the Diocese of Cleveland. VASJ resulted from the merging of Villa Angela Academy (1878-1989) with Saint Joseph High School (1950-1989).
Villa Angela Academy was the oldest Catholic institution of learning in the Diocese of Cleveland, founded by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland in 1878. For more than 110 years, Villa Angela was a witness to Christian education with more than 6,000 graduates. Joseph High School was opened in September of 1950.

Services
VASJ prepares students for college and much more. We offer a broad and rich curriculum tailored to individual student needs and interests for college preparation and life. Advanced Placement and Honors classes are offered in a wide range of disciplines. With a lower student-to-teacher ratio, personal attention for students who need academic support is always available.
Launched in 1992, the Marianist Urban Students Program (MUSP) identifies high-potential students in urban Marianist elementary schools and offers them financial, academic and social support to succeed at Marianist high schools. They wouldn't be exposed to the same values and would be lost in the shuffle of the public school system.
As a comprehensive college preparatory high school, VASJ is proud to provide our students with a curriculum that prepares them for college as well as for the practicalities of everyday life.
An important part of that curriculum is our program to serve students with learning differences who seek a mainstream Catholic high school experience that integrates support and services for them as specified by an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Service Plan (SP).

I attended St. Joseph's High School when it was all male students from 1954-58. I had wanted to attend St. Ignatius High School on the west side of town but it would have meant a very long trip with a transfer downtown. I have no regrets all these years later but one for the present school and that is, I preferred then and still do now an all male student body. I later attended John Carroll University when it too was all male.
