Great school! I personally achieved 18 college credits from the two years I attended. Best teachers and curriculum that I have attended. Excellent biotechnology and chemistry programs. Definitely the best school in the district. No inherent sense of racism exists. There is FAR more racism at all of the schools in the district compared to this one. Wish it was an open campus for lunch though..

Many people have decided to generalize not only the school, but the district and the state. People are saying that not only are the students racist but so is the faculty, administration, and staff. None of this is true. Arizona, Tempe Union, and Desert Vista High School are not racist nor do they condone any racist or hateful activity such as the recent occurrence. They are not JUST getting 5 days suspension. They've had scholarships revoked and fired from jobs. This will affect them for the rest of their lives. They made a stupid mistake and trust me, it was a REALLY big mistake; but they don

As a 15 year old Canadian, Leaving my home for the first time to relocate to a new country, I was terrified! That was 2000. We moved into the largest house i have ever lived it, and was enrolled into a school that locks you in, with a student parking lot full of cars i have only seen on TV. I was the new kid in a new country i knew nothing about, with the curriculum i knew nothing about, in a rich area...... Let me tell you..... Those 3 years with the staff and friends i made helped me graduate with honors!!! I didn't know Geography, History, Government (State or Federal), and I actually graduated

One of the top high schools in the state and country for that matter. The rating before those girls took the picture was close to a 5 star rating. BTW the picture was taken by a group of African American girls who asked those girls to arrange themselves to spell out the racial slur. Get the facts straight

I see a lot of individuals commenting they wish people would stop generalizing and calling the "school" racist for the actions of the girls. 1- Why has the school not published a formal apology of some kind? 2-Whether it's desired or not - IGNORANCE is MOST DEFINITELY a sign of A SEVERE lack of education - and what these 6 girls share in common besides this sychronized IGNORANCE - is the educational institution they attend. So please - tell me again how it's not logical that the institution in which these girls are educated - not be frowned upon - considering the OBVIOUS lack of education this

"I've never been to this school, but that recent news story said that six of the girls were racist, so that means I'm definitely informed enough to rate the entire school as a whole! One star!"
...No. People who have not been to Desert Vista themselves should not be rating the school due to the actions of six kids. That is a faulty generalization.
What about the faculty and staff? What about the infrastructure? What about the available classes and the capacity to learn? This is what should make up reviews, not a bunch of unhelpful drivel from people who don't even have a connection to the school

I attended this school for two years and even grew up with a majority of the students there. I can tell you that out of everyone I met, not a single individual was racist. Ignorant? Slightly. Hateful towards someone for their ethnicity? No. Were there racist or judgmental people there? Most likely, as there are in every school. But the problem here is those girls thought they were being funny by posting that picture. They are ignorant and oblivious to the consequences their actions have. You shouldn't blame or hate on the school for the actions of a few. This school gives its students an excellent

I hope those young girls learned their lesson after taking that photo. I went to a high where it was predominantly African American students but we also had Caucasian students. Not once did we every throw racial slurs or said anything out of line. We always looked at each other as family no matter what. My nanny was a Caucasian women. So all I'm saying is teach these children to love one another.

I see the outrage over the t-shirt spelling incident but these girls lives are ruined. Parents, please use this incident as a teaching moment. The girls names are plastered all over the net which will never go away. Everyone from potential boyfriends to employers will Google them and it'll be over. They can go to college, but will never receive a job offer from any company that conducts a search. No explanation will be given as to why they never get the jobs they apply for - they will simply get passed over. The real lesson? These girls are probably not racists. They are guilty only of felony stupidity

Desert Vista, with out a doubt is an amazing school, however, it has its disadvantages. it feels like a cage because they have fenced us in. and KEEP fencing us in.... oh look another fence is currently being built. I mean I know its for our safety, but really? its kind of like tightening the noose. with all the fences it makes it hard to cross the campus. not to mention the people there walk slowly, which is rather annoying if you are someone like me who is all about getting to class early. as for the cafeteria, it is way to small for the school's population. many if not most of the students at
