Since 1988, we have been improving the quality of life for the mental health community within Alameda County by promoting freedom of choice, empowerment, and independent living within the community. We are a network of five peer-run programs throughout Alameda County. All of our programs are managed and staffed by people who have lived experience with mental health, homelessness, and/or substance use challenges.
We seek to meet the needs of the mental health community by providing peer-run alternatives to the traditional mental health system.

Services
Alameda County Network of Mental Health Clients (ACNMHC) was born out of the activism and organizing of the 1960s and '70s. As psychiatric institutions, known for inhumane treatment and isolation, were shut down throughout the 1950s and 60's many former psychiatric inmates found one another and connected about their experiences.
The Berkeley Drop-In Center is recovering unhoused and behavioral health partners inspiring each other to be all we can and want to be, connecting us to our unique selves, to each other, and to the wider community by building a strong, peer-run program that engages us in mind, body, and spirit.
We do this by providing support, services and activities that encourage, personal, educational and social growth in the hope of making lasting positive changes in ourselves and in the communities in which we live.

BestNow! (Building Employment Strategies Through Networking on Wellness) provides leadership development, empowerment, job training, and support for people with mental health and/or substance use recovery experience who are interested in joining the behavioral health field as Peer Support Specialists.
Reach-Out is a special program that connects with people who are currently in mental health facilities or adult residential facilities ("board and care" homes), to bring peer support, encouragement, and wellness resources. Our program depends on a team of volunteer visitors. All Reach Out volunteers have lived experience with mental health hospitalization and/or living in adult care facilities, and can relate to the people we serve.
