Services
We are a family owned, private practice with a deep history of serving Bastrop and the surrounding communities. Our practice was founded by Dr. Neil Gurwitz in downtown Bastrop in 1951. Over the years the office titles have changed but the care and familiarity remains. We are happy to continue the tradition of quality care to Bastrop and look forward to many more years of local service.
Our services include general optometric exams for glasses and contact lenses, specialty contact lenses, emergency eye care, and medical exams. We treat conditions such as dry eye, keratoconus, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetes, and more. We also co-manage cataract and refractive surgery locally so you avoid the headache of big city traffic.

This office was absolutely amazing. They are so patient and thorough. The front desk staff was very friendly. Monica was great. Dr Matt was so nice and really took his time to help me with contacts. Even worked with me himself on how to put them in and take them out. Hayley was so nice snd helped me pick the perfect pair of glasses! Can’t say enough about this office! I highly recommend them!

Never ever will come back here! This was a nice decent place to go to but all this mask nonsense is ridiculous! The doc Matt I think it was, he’s awesome and friendly. They “require” you to wear a mask and their own employees sitting in the office doesn’t wear them. She says…if we leave our area, then we wear them?! Really…do you think “covid” can’t travel thru the air and get you behind that partial cover plexi? The initial exam and everything went fine. Once I was seated for frames, the older lady goes thru all the questions and everything going over frames then gripes about

While looking for new glasses and having just left another frame store where the salesperson was rude, overbearing and pushy, we stopped at Texas Vision Clinic. Best Decision!!! Health protocols were in place, very pleasant staff and an ample selection of frames. We worked with Haley, who was professional, experienced and honest in her opinions as to style and what was a good look for us, and she was great fun!!! We left having bought two pair of glasses, which we got within two weeks! We highly recommend checking out Texas Vision Clinic. We are glad we did!!!!!

The staff here are very patient, especially the lady who does the puff of air 😂 and pictures. She’s always been extremely patient with me. I Flench and blink like every 3 seconds but she’s patient, the eye doctor Matt is always friendly, and explains things thoroughly… and the lady I forget her name 😩 but she helped me pick out my glasses and she was the kindest.

Each and every person that I have met at Texas Vision Clinic is enthusiastic and very personable. They are always willing to help with vision needs. I wholeheartedly appreciate all their patience. Everything about my visit with Texas Vision Clinic was amazing! From the minute I walked in to the minute I walked out the door.
The office staff were very kind. Check-in and check-out were simple. The eye exam was thorough and I feel like the Dr. James took his time explaining everything to me. He was friendly and professional. At no point did I feel like I was being pushed through a process.
I had a second appointment for a contact consultation at 3pm the same day and while I was killing time I thought I would pick out some glasses. I must have tried on 18 pair of glasses (and didn’t love

This is the first time doing exams and getting glasses at this place for me & both of my boys. I felt the need to compliment them as well as leave a good review because not only were they all amazing with me and the boys, but specifically Rain. When you go anywhere with an autistic kid they always think “we can fix him” and today I saw NONE of that. They all took the extra time and patience to actually talk to him and make him comfortable. Great staff and service.
