Frena Bakery
A San Francisco bakery specializing in freshly baked pastries. Our journey began with great-Grandfather Moshe who traveled from Iraq to Israel carrying with him a wealth of delicious recipes. We wish to offer our customers a glimpse into our rich culture and heritage so that you too may experience the smells and tastes that we have grown up with.

Our selection of recipes include traditional and homemade dishes cooked the way Grandfather Moshe would have cooked it. The flavors and smells of our culture are our mother tongue. Even though we have adopted different languages these recipes still define comfort, excitement and joy for us.

I'm very thankful that the Bay Area is the home to Frena Bakery. The food is not only authentic, it provides nourishment for the body AND the soul! I'm especially grateful for their outstanding service. Last Friday, there was a mixup in my Ubereats order. I was distressed because it was late Friday afternoon, and the Bakery was about to close. I called Frena and they quickly put things together. In no time, I had the freshly baked Pita Za'atar and salads! I'm very appreciative to the administrator and Yaniv as they give their full attention to understand their customers, thus

Unbelievably good!

Some of the best vegan baked goods I've ever had. We got the Bavarian donut, the mushroom pastry, the spinach pastry, and a few other goodies that I did not catch the name of. The lamination on the goods is out of this world. They have authentic middle eastern recipes and I'm happy to support this small shop. They balanced the delicate flavors very well. The savory goods had the perfect amount of salt. And the sweets were so good that my date who doesn't care for sweets actually wanted more. The staff knows what they are doing. Love goes into the food. I will

Simply the best. I love this bakery and its mix of Israeli and Moroccan food. They catered a few parties for us and were more than accommodating. Do deviate from your norm and try something new with their food. Don't wait until closing time for Shabbat as they bake everything fresh and can run out.

I ordered the puff pastry with the spinach filling. It was incredibly overpriced for $10.99. Nothing special either. Mushroom spinach turnovers at Acme Bread is $5.92 & much tastier. I won't be going back here again.

Five stars for the amazing service. Doesn't even matter how good the baked items were, which were great. I'll go back just to support one of the nicest owners one could meet.

We placed a large order to get a taste of just about everything. Middle Eastern food is definitely one of my favorites. The borekas are nice but if there's any filling in them, it's a small amount. We got a medley of them and the only difference I can tell is what seeds they used on the top. We ordered 4 dips and two of them are exactly the same -- Romanian eggplant and Matbucha dip. Maybe they made a mistake? The sambusaks have more filling but the dough is harder and not as tasty as the borekas. The challah and chocolate rugalach are tasty. But I prefer Oren's hummus and babaganoush

Ok I do not get how Frena hasn't blown up yet, especially in the Vegan community. They do amazing mushroom and spinach puff pastries. I also had a black sesame puff pastry that was off the charts. They also do deliveries on some days to the South Bay. I love this place. Im just sad I didn't discover it earlier when I was still living in SF.

Really appreciated how I was greeted-- asked if I'd been in before and talked through their story and selection. Did an assortment of bourekas-- 5 savory and one sweet. They were ok. Honestly loved the mushroom and the chocolate, but the others (especially the cheese and feta) all left something to be desired. Can't quite put my finger on it, but just not wild about them.
Will go back at some point with a friend because their vegan selection was super extensive and I do want to try the challah, but next time I'll drive and have friend run in-- not a great street for walking alone

How do you go from 5 to one star? Well l tell ya mon!
It's called doing the right thing aka trying to support local business on Christmas Day.
We ordered a bunch of goodies for Christmas brunch Friday Christmas Day.
The idea was to make homemade shaksuska and have some savory delights to dunk it all in. That and a couple of tubs of Romanian eggplant.

Set up and account online Thursday.

Got and email order confirmation Thursday evening.

Even got a call Friday am from Isaac asking for me to
call and confirm.

I called and confirmed we would be there as stated in the email between 12

I learned about Frena in a recent Chronicle feature on sufganiyot, which are Israeli-style donuts filled with jam or custard, and based on the food p*rn-worthy pics alone, I had to try it out. And yes, it's true. These milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard!

These treats are popular during Hanukkah and are deep-fried, which in turn alludes to the oil that, long ago, lit the menorah of the holy temple in Jerusalem for eight days after the Jews reclaimed it. Frena's creations reflect trends in Israel, where increasingly elaborate and Instagram-worthy sufganiyot are the norm. I couldn

I was craving carbs and bread and pastries, but an email in my inbox gave me the perfect opportunity to fix that. The email was from Frena Bakery and Cafe, which has a physical storefront in San Francisco, and I was thrilled to find that they were hosting a weekly pop-up delivery truck throughout the Bay Area every week. Super excited to discover that Palo Alto was one of the locations on Wednesday, I headed out determined to get the delicious bourekas that I had enjoyed in store about a year ago. I was able to grab the last savory boureka box with a dozen assorted bourekas. It was exciting to

You can tell when bread and baked goods are made with love.

Frena douses their array of heavenly smelling dough products with care and love.

Frena is a kosher bakery located in the SOMA area - staffed by lovely people. I reached out to them last year about a catering order and their staff were incredible. They were prompt with replies, eager to help, and they even offered delivery. Win!

If you're looking for a way to feed a large or small group Frena is your spot. They offer an array of items for both pick up and delivery (for larger orders). They have challah bread, fresh and frozen

We came here on a Sunday morning and ordered the Shashuka combo, which comes with pita, salad and a drink. I thought that the shashuka was missing something, so we added some cheese to our plate. It was so much more flavorful after doing so! I wish that their salad contained some feta too, but it was refreshing!

I also ordered a feta bureka and a cheese Bureka to try.

My favorites were the two Bureka. They were flaky and so buttery.

They were very kind and the bakery was very clean. The walk over to the bakery was kind of scary since it's not in the best area, but I would recommend ride

If you're out and about and you pop in here, you're going to find some things you must eat, no matter what. That was the case with the halva pan (because halva, duh!) and so you should go in. It's not too fancy, but the people there were super nice and accommodating, and even offer up small samples of their goods to try.

Yes, if you are nearby, you'll not regret trying them.

However, if you are there and you happen to watch them take a fresh batch of chocolate croissants out of the oven before your very eyes, then for the love of everything chocolate, buttery, and flaky, you

I was in such a bad mood, running around collecting last minute tidbits for a Hanukkah get together. Very few places sell sufganiyot and one of them was closed on Mondays! Technically, you can use your average jelly doughnut if you're in a pinch, but I didn't want to. So, I braved the 6th and Minna corridor, lucking out and finding a parking space directly in front of the bakery! In front of a SFPD paddy wagon. You ever try and parallel park between a car and a paddy wagon?

As soon as I walked in to the bakery it was impossible to be in such a mood. The woman behind the counter was so
