Services
Growing up on the East Side of New York City during the 60's and 70's we experienced a wonderful evolution in neighborhood hospitality and restaurants. We were born into a world of local saloons and nightclubs. Michael "Billy" Condon, Toots Shor and Jack Dempsey were all great New York restaurateurs who were invariably gracious, and at whose restaurants my brother and I were taught good manners, good behavior and good food.
We founded the Outta The Way Cafe in 1989. The following year Chip served on a poly-styrene task force in Prince George's County. By 1991 the Outta the Way Cafe had begun a recycling program that was used by Montgomery County as a model for other restaurants.

Approximately 65% of our solid waste was being recycled annually when the Outta The Way Cafe was recognized by County Executive Neal Potter as the first restaurant in Montgomery County to initiate a recycling program. In 2005 we were again honored by the Montgomery County SORRT program for recycling over 67% of our solid waste and 100% of our cooking oil.

Great burger and excellent service. Casual neighborhood restaurant with a bar area to the side. Huge menu and nice selection of wines by the glass.

As a local restaurant, their food is much better than others. In particular tempura chicken or their meatloaf or pierogies are fantastic ! Don’t forget to try the wings!

I've haven't been here in a while. It was a great experience. Met some regulars, had a good time with a great meal. Come by, it may surprise you. Bring your children. There were several families and the kids were having fun.

Great food, great vibes, great bartenders. This has become one of my favorite haunts. The pierogi's alone are worth a trip. Shout out to Jesse and Uncle Jesse!

At first glance this place seemed promising with its rustic yet eccentric decor. However, we had no idea we would be experiencing the WORST service with mediocre food. Our waitress forgot our drink and food order. To make things worse, I had ordered a Farmers Daughters Breakfast from the Sunday brunch menu (two eggs any style, toast and hashbrowns, and either sausage or bacon). I had only specified how I wanted my eggs and my preference for bacon. SO THOSE WERE THE ONLY THINGS I GOT. When I asked about the other items, she proceeded to tell me I needed to request those items specifically. Since

Very pretty restaurant with stained glass windows. Ordered a chicken salad which was a good size and had chicken salad on it. My mom enjoyed it very much. I ordered the exploding meatloaf casserole. It's much like shepherds pie but without the vegetables. It was tender but a little dry from baking. I asked for a side of gravy which was perfect. Service was very good.

I found a new spot to enjoy some lunch. I had the Reuben and WOW! I cannot wait to try other menu items.
The atmosphere is very warm & welcoming. Ryan was working the bar & answered all questions thoroughly. The stained glass windows are absolutely beautiful. This restaurant is definitely hidden, but definitely worth the visit!

Small portions of sub par foods at extremely high prices. I got one order of naked chicken wings and one draft beer. The bill was $27 before tax and tip! $30.00 for what?! The wings were very small, the carrots were extremely dry as if they were sliced days before and refrigerated. There were 3 small celery sticks. The menu stated they would charge extra for additional celery. The ranch dressing tasted watered down. The worst of it all was how slow and unfriendly the service was.

A splendid little sports bar in the Rockville-Derwood neighborhood, bias towards the Pittsburgh Steelers from the owners, but anyone is welcome to share a game. A laid-back DMV vibe, for working people of all incomes. The food is okay...only one waitress so it usually arrives at room temperature. A nice spot that isn't a chain restaurant.

Stopped for lunch today and had a nice meal.

Highlights: Friendly, welcoming atmosphere, fresh brioche bun for the prime rib sandwich, and excellenlent fresh and well cooked salmon.

Downside: forgot to leave the salad dressing on the side.

Everything else was solid and enjoyable.

Extremely disappointed with my recent visit at Out of the Way Cafe. It was my last time going there!

1. The place is filthy!! Especially the kitchen and bathrooms.

2. The service was horrible! I waited 40 minutes for my dinner. Turns out the waitress never put my order in. After doing so it was another 45 minute wait!

3. My $26, I repeat twenty six dollar steak came back red when I asked for medium well. When the waitress brought it back, it was slightly burned and it was still pink!!!

4. The band was the only good thing I can say about the night. However, customers in front of the band

A solid hole in the wall kind of place, where the bartenders start pouring your drink when you walk in if you've been here before.

Heard the hype about how great the wings are here, and I'll admit they're very meaty and clean, fried perfectly. I'll admit for $14 you get a good meal for that price. I don't think the sauces are that great though. I added more sauce to the Buffalo side of the order and it was still just "eh." The Chip's Sauce that the couple next to me said was so good was a different take on sweet and a little bite at the end, but was avg

They are now open for dine in. We have been waiting to go there for months. My wife and I had the exploding meatloaf and it was delicious. (with extra gravy)
During the shutdown they refurbished the interior and it really looks nice.
Their sanitizing process was reassuring, a major factor that we look for in a restaurant!

Outta the way cafe teamed up with town and country movers to provide the Shady Grove Medical Center's three ICU units with multiple meals during the COVID-19 crisis. I can not thank OTWC and T&C movers enough for the wonderful food. It's not just a nice gesture. Many staff and nurses have spoken about what a life saver it is to have meals during this time. Covid has added extra stressors and time constraints. These meals are greatly appreciated.

The pasta and salads were delicious! :)

It's been many years since our last visit. Upon arriving we found no one to west us (seem the one waiter did everything) Our meals , burger with beacon and cheese was very good, chicken tenders were good but bland my son said, and my bbq chicken wrap was great. I did wait 10 minutes and finally received my beer.

Waitress, Hostess, busboy were all the same person and it showed in her short attitude.

Overall I enjoyed and will return. Increase staff as I was not the only one to receive the same attitude when entering.

I'm scared to give this place a great review because I love that it's a tucked away hidden gem!

From the outside it looks like you're going into a small dark restaurant BUT if you make it inside ( it took me driving by it for months ) you'll be delighted by all of the smiling faces and the home cooked food.

I showed up when there was a game and the place was PACKED, but the service was still great.

I have yet to try the bar but it's next on my bucket list.

Oh yeah.. Best wings around

This place looks a tad sketchy from the outside but I can tell you it is definitely a place to check out. I would really consider this place a pub more than a cafe. Their menu is pretty big and diverse...you can get healthy options or traditional pub fare.

The service is quick and the food is yummy and to top it off, it is one of those places you can sit and chat for a few hours and everything would be okay.

My colleague and I met there because we had some work we had to discuss and we could do it in an environment that wasn't too crazy and that had delicious options to choose from. We

...when you enter a sports bar and you're 1)the only black people there and 2)not a steelers fan, it can get a little awkward. Luckily my date was not fazed by our blatant differences in the crowd, so we grabbed a table and popped a spot right in front of the TV for some Thursday Night Football.

For some odd reason, everyone (and I mean even the waitresses) here was a Pittsburg fan. Baltimore played the Steelers (10-01-15), and no one, I mean no one was here for them. I normally would never cheer for the Ravens (go Skins) but I felt I had to throw in my support, as so did my date, who made
