Ziki Japanese Sushi & Steak House

Extremely excellent quality. Everything I've tried seems to be better than comparable items anywhere else. It's our go to place for sushi!

We came to Ziki Japanese Restaurant to try the Ramen and we were not disappointed! The Chashu Ramen (pork belly) was so delicious and so was the Yakisoba! We will definitely be back to try their sushi!! The staff were really friendly and we got seated and served quickly. If you're in the Portage area, I highly recommend this place!

The sushi was excellent, best I've had in a long time. The plates were beautiful. The waitress was so friendly and pleasant to chat with, great recommendation on food. Great prices. Can't wait to come here again.

Don’t think I’ll be back again. Ordered takeout, with a salmon avocado roll and asked to custom add cream cheese. Didn’t find out until I got home that they totally ignored my request. THEN discovered no soy sauce or napkins or chopsticks were even included in the bag. Waste of money for takeout for something that was made wrong and I wasn’t able to eat without a fork. Luckily I wasn’t visiting from out of town or on-the-go with no utensils of my own.

Ziki is a great place to get great Sushi! This is a family owned business so with staffing issues this past year, you may find any one of the family members working.
The first time I went was for a birthday dinner. The waitress, Zia, gave great suggestions since there wasn’t very many pictures with the menu choices. The presentation of the food was fantastic and tasted amazing! The prices are great too! I highly recommend for lunch or dinner 😁

The good: coming back here excites me. We like trying new stuff from their appetizers menu, and we enjoy their sushi. Last time we went for their special sushi roll, the roll was topped with diced mangos, and as a whole it was light and delicious. I cant remember the last time i had a roll this light to my mouth. We're always happy with their service and how quick food comes out to our table. Very nice atmosphere with spacious dining area. This place is slowly making its way to my top ten sushi list.

We had the Sexy Girl, Bad Boy and Spicy crab roll, the names of what we chose made us laugh and they were all great! One was deep fried and had banana in it, which is something I haven't seen elsewhere, so I had to try it, definitely good! We like their variety of rolls that they do have some different offerings than other places

First time trying this restaurant. I gave it four stars as they are grateful to have your business, you can tell. I didn’t like the plastic silverware but I used chopsticks and after trying the food it didn’t matter. Example, the steak was tender and chop sticks was sufficient to eat it. The food was very good, I’m a steak person and it was excellent but could have used a little more salt but acceptable. The rice I had was different and probably my favorite dish and honestly the best I ever had. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The place was clean and the atmosphere was good

My partner and I picked sushi to be our main food for Valentine's Day! We had only really tried a couple places in the area and found Ziki on Yelp. We placed an order and was nervous because again, we never had it.

We were able to order online and view the menu. Which was convenient for us when deciding what we wanted. They had plenty of options. And the price is not as expensive as some other restaurants in the area which was nice for us.

We love our sushi so when we got home and opened the containers realized how much food we ordered! Huge portion sizes! Haha so many pieces!

While we were super excited to try this place due to all of the wonderful reviews...I have to say it was way overrated. Perhaps the great ratings are coming from to-go orders.
We ordered a meal for our child as soon as we sat down (as people with young kids usually do) shortly after that we placed our order.
Meanwhile another group was sat and ordered their dinner after we had. They recieved their meals before we did and our childs meal didn't even come until AFTER our meals were delivered. When we asked about it we were told "oh I didn't see anything else in the window" when

I am very patient and understanding when it comes to restaurants working under the constraints of the pandemic. My order consisted of gyozas and seafood soup as appetizers both were served cold. No problem, we understand maybe it got cold waiting for the waitress to serve it to us. Unfortunately our main entrees were served lukewarm too. Honestly the rice was served above lukewarm but lacked flavor. The pork Katsu was hard and cold. Looked as if they served me a dish a customer sent back. When I notified the waitress, she was trying to convince me it was served fresh out the grease. Needless to

We love the chicken hibachi dinner. It is a huge portion! We love the chicken, fried rice and veggies. It includes soup and salad. The salad dressing is delicious! The sushi is great too! Very friendly staff and service is excellent (for both take out and dine in).

I don't know where to begin, my fiancé and I had dinner here last night and we were more than impressed. The calamari was great, especially with the dipping sauce. We were both very happy with our sushi rolls and fried rice. If we return to the area we will be stopping by again.

Best sushi in the Kalamazoo area! Great quality, wonderful portions, have never been disappointed. Can't wait for when they restart indoor dining!

March 23, 2021 update: Ziki opens for in-person dining again starting today. Hurray!
This is a great place to celebrate a birthday (although keep in mind at present there are table-size restrictions in place in MI so a large group might have to sit in separate tables) because they turn down the lights, throw some disco lights on, crank the music and really make a spectacle of celebrating the honoree. Last I knew, they also offered a discount on your meal on your actual birthday, but who knows if that's still in effect during the chaos that is dining in 2020/2021!
I ordered my first avocado

Very beautiful atmosphere with a more modern twist. Food was very good however I was disappointed our plate of sushi did NOT have the artwork seen on all the other pictures submitted to Yelp. We came in for the first time to celebrate our anniversary thus a little something extra would have been nice. Still very good food and service. Also would have enjoyed a nice wine with dinner.

My wife loved the special white tuna roll.

Living in NYC you tend to be skeptical of Japanese restaurants in little towns like Portage, MI. But, last February I found myself traveling for work and felt somewhat adventurous.

I came here my second night and was pleasantly surprised with the how fresh and delicious the food was. The chirashi bowl is a must get. As was most of their appetizers.

Over the course of my two week stay I found myself coming here pretty much every other night. It got to the point where the hostess recognized my phone number and standard takeout order.

Highly recommend this place.

Really good sushi, but subpar to average atmosphere. We first arrived and a very young girl (like 5-6 years old) was our hostess and took us to our booth. Once seated, we had a quiet and rather awkward waitress, as she would take our order/speak to us and walk away without saying anything in response throughout the meal. She also didn’t give us napkins and took away chopsticks before other food was on its way, so we had to ask for more.
The sushi was excellent and tasted fresh and was delicate.
The environment was somewhat on the quieter side, but not that quiet. There was nice decorations

It's sad for me to write this review because we have had so many lunches and meals here and never had an issue. Went in here for a quick lunch a month ago. The server brought out our wrong food. We wanted tempura and she put it in as teriyaki. I mean, I don't know how it could happen. Perhaps, the language barrier but we were out of time so we didn't wanna send it back. The server wasn't apologetic about her mistake at all. She was quite defensive, actually. We didn't wanna argue over meals so we just let it go.
Phew, that was fun.

After i heard a lot of good reviews about this place and being a fan of sushi, i gave a try at this place right a way. Here are my score
Each star for the following
1. The owner was super friendly. He did not jump into talking about specials. But, wanted to know what i wanted
2. The whole place was welcoming and lively
3. The place was really clean and not a speck of dust anywhere
4. The food is very inexpensive and really yummy. The portions are also huge. I can lay it down and say its the best sushi in Kalamazoo.
5. They have daily and lunch specials. But did not see dinner specials. So 4 stars

My wife and I have not had a bad dining experience here. Our server was extremely friendly, the food was delicious. We had the lunch combo rolls with the dragon and rainbow rolls. All delicious! We look forward to going back. The cost may be off putting but reasonable for quality sushi.
