Services
One of the unique aspects of Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF as it's commonly known, is its racial diversity: 56 percent of our 3,400 students identify as white, while 20 percent identify as African-American, 12 percent as Hispanic, 9 percent as multiracial, and 3 percent as Asian.

As a school, it is our mission to ensure that all students, regardless of race, have the resources and support they need to achieve their full potential. One of our challenges is differences in student outcomes that are predictable by race, with white students, as a group, outperforming African-American, Hispanic, and multi-racial students.
More than 3,400 students from the diverse communities of Oak Park and River Forest, Ill., are enrolled in this single-school district, located about nine miles west of downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan. We offer more than 200 academically rigorous courses in nine academic divisions at transition, college preparatory, honors, and Advanced Placement levels.
Oak Park and River Forest High School offers a wide range of classes (some 250) to meet a variety of needs including: graduation requirements; exploration of individual interests; performance opportunities; academic support; and college credit.

The high school is organized into nine academic divisions: Business Education and Library Services, English, Fine and Applied Arts (Visual Arts, Music, Speech Arts, Industrial Technology and Family/Consumer Science), History, Mathematics, Physical Education/Driver Education, Science, Special Education, and World Languages. Each of these divisions has a wide range of offerings designed to meet individual student needs and interests.
The following links will provide students with information that allows them to research careers, helping them make connections between things they are learning in school and the jobs they will pursue in the future. Federal Student Aid, an office of the U. S. Department of Education, ensures that all eligible individuals can benefit from federally funded or federally guaranteed financial assistance for education beyond high school.
The priorities of the district's strategic plan include increasing access to rigorous curriculum and eliminating race, socioeconomic status, and other social factors as predictors of student success.

In 2022-2023, to increase access to rigorous coursework for all students, the high school will eliminate separate college-prep and honors level classes for freshman English, science, history, and world languages, replacing them with a single, rigorous, high-level honors curriculum for all.The administration and Faculty Senate presented this joint statement to the Board of Education.

I graduated from OPRFHS in 1956 after receiving an excellent education. I now have two advanced degrees, MD and PhD partially based on the fine math and science education I received at OPRFHS. I hope the quality of educaiton still stands after these many years.
