Bear River Winery is a family operated boutique micro wine grower producing small lots of hand crafted wines using traditional methods from grapes sourced in and around northern Sierra vineyards. We are open at the winery in Meadow Vista for public tastings on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 NOON - 5:00 PM.
Services
A unique blend of white wines including Chenin Blanc make our ever popular Bear River White a refreshing spring and summer white wine. Barbera grapes yield rich fruit forward flavors of red cherry and raspberry with balanced acidity and fruity aromas. Pair with pasta, pizza or anything Italian. Primitivo grapes yield a robust, jammy wine with classic notes of pepper and chocolate.
Bear River Winery is pleased to support and be an active member of our local community through charitable donations and other local organizations. We focus our benevolence locally on organizations that enhance the quality of life in our community. My/Our Event represents a Meadow Vista based organization.

I seldom give three-star reviews, but there are so many glowing reviews here I want to add a little perspective.
This is a very small winery. Usually, that is a positive in my book but here it means that wine tasting is done standing in a small, stuffy shed with underwhelming air conditioning.
The wine is okay to good, but is priced a bit high for that.
The bathroom is a port-a-potty.
On the plus side, the winemaker runs the tasting room, so you are talking to the source. He's friendly and knowledgeable.

Venture off the beaten path to bear river winery and you won't be disappointed. Pretty awesome wine tasting experience for a small unassuming winery. It's up in the mountains and in a tree lined hillside with a large herd of sheep lining the property. Walking in the the tasting room we were greeted by a friendly vitner who poured 11+ wines, mostly reds from their winery. Most of the grapes were from sierra foothills. Our favorites were the barbers rose and the grizzly Syrah. Tasting here are free which goes along with this relaxed and fun tasting experience.

Great small winery. Very local and family owned. Mostly reds made from local grapes. Supprisingly good for small winery! The Teddy Bear Port is very interesting. Also have a very drinkable Syrah.
Suprise!! This is also a craft distiller of fine spirits! Don't miss the Grappa made from local grapes. Smooth and reasonable price! They say more types of spirits will be coming soon.
15 Dec 2018: update! Bear River has opened a new tasting room to Old Town Auburn in the Gold Country mall. Don't miss it. Location now very handy!! Same great wine and friendly staff. Tasting room in Meadow Vista is still

If you are looking for a day trip with family, friends or even yourself, this is a great little winery in the mountains. Fun drive and beautiful scenery when you arrive. The owners are great people (very knowledgeable) and they make amazing wine. No tasting fee and again amazing wine. I ended up joining this little winery and can't wait to return. My daughter had a great time watching the sheep. I look forward to a girls picnic day here and going to the river not too far away. Please support this winery. You won't be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite wineries in the area.
The owners are great and make amazing wine. It's pretty rare to go to a winery and love every single one of their bottles. It's so hard making a decision of which bottles to bring home. When the weather is nice we go probably every other weekend. Free wine tasting and GREAT prices for such good bottles of wine. If you haven't stopped here it is worth a day trip. Their Port and left paw BEARdeau is my favorite.

Tucked away down a windy scenic drive off the highway, We found Bear River Winery looking for a break from traffic. Mike poured us a little bit of everything. Neither of us like Rose usually but we it was as delicious as the rest of them. We bought a bottle to go! Though it was hard to chose from several award winning wines. Definitely take the detour if you're looking for some good wine!

Go to Bear River Winery if you want excellent service and great wines. There are a variety of both red and white wines that are all worth tasting. I have my favorites, but they are all wonderful. Quaint little tasting room, with lots of bright umbrellas outside to enjoy a picnic lunch and drink really nice wines. You won't be disappointed.

Real small winery, but up and coming! The building seems to be a converted barn (gives you the nice country rustic feeling), and everything is done by just two guys, so come here for the personal service. We came as part of the "Grape Days of Summer" event, but I believe I heard them say they'll pour you free tastings on any weekend. We especially liked their Rosé and late harvest desert wine. Pricing was around $20/bottle which is what I expected from a smaller winery like them. They've got a few goats on the property. They have not added a bathroom in the barn yet, so it

A great Sierra foothills winery and a good addition to meadow vista. It's a low key up and coming winery that makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door. They have a good selection of wines that are notable and have some grand plans for the future. With only being open for six months I say they are spot on! Definitely worth the visit.
