At Ives Eyecare, we welcome new patients with the same care and dedication to service established by Dr. Louis Ives when he founded the first Ives Eyecare practice in the late 1940s. Louis' son Paul has devoted his career in optometry to building the best of vision care services for the communities of Westmoreland County.
In 2019, we welcomed Dr. Alexa Ives as a 3rd generation Optometrist in the practice. Beginning summer of 2021, Paul's youngest daughter, Tessa, will join as an associate Optometrist as well. We cannot think of a better way the celebrate 75 years in practice than continuing the high level of care for which Ives Eyecare Center has become well known.

Services
The tradition of optometric care in the Ives family goes back to 1946, when Dr. Louis Ives opened his practice in West Newton. One of 10 children, Louis Ives was born to parents who emigrated from Hungary in the early 1900s. Once in the US, they started a small general store and raised chickens in Russellton, PA (Allegheny County).
Though there are many causes, the main reason for Dry Eye Syndrome is a combination of decreased tear production and increased tear evaporation resulting in poor quality of the components in your tears. Most cases of dry eye are related to progressive and irreversible meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Blepharitis is a general term for a combination of factors that result in inflammation of the eyelids and crusting of the eyelashes. It is often the result of a bacterial infection, an allergic reaction, or abnormalities in the function of oil glands in the lids. A chronic conditions, the main goal is to keep blepharitis under control by eliminating bacteria on the lids to reduce inflammation and irritation.
Dry eye is a chronic condition that must be managed properly in order to maintain clear and comfortable vision. Unfortunately, some treatments are expensive, tedious, and not always covered by insurance. At Ives Eyecare Center, we are dedicated to creating a customized treatment plan for your chronic dry eye.
Meibomian Glands are responsible for producing an essential component of the tear film that prevents your tears from evaporating too quickly. If the glands become clogged, they begin to atrophy. This causes an imbalance in the tears that can result in dryness, irritation, and fluctuating vision. The process cannot be reversed, however, treatment can prevent further gland loss from occurring.
