Kopp's Cycle
Kopp's Cycle Shop was established in 1891 by E.C. Kopp and is the oldest continually running bicycle shop in America (2nd oldest in the world). We're dedicated to serving the Princeton, NJ community as we have for many years. One of the 10 coolest bike shops in the world! We understand the severity of the situation we are all facing and will continue to do our best to keep our staff and anyone coming to our doors safe.

This means new safety measures will be taken by our staff and we ask you to comply whenever interacting at our store. If you find yourself in need of emergency repairs, you can still come to our store during normal business hours, just note that we can only allow a maximum of 2 people in our store at a time, so you may have to wait in your vehicle or outside until we can safely allow you in.
Services
For kids, a bike means freedom and fun. And because, like it or not, a bike can sometimes see duties that take it a bit beyond its intended purpose, it needs to be simple and reliable. The Batch Kids Bike is grab-and-go for spontaneous adventures. It features a durable and light aluminum frame, easy-to-steer handlebars, and an adjustable seat.
The Doppler is the ideal all-conditions bike for commuting, extended tours or off-road excursions! For distance riding the Doppler delivers with comfy large-volume 650b tires, full-coverage fenders and full appointments for racks & extra bottles. The Infinito CV Disc Carbon bike is the ultimate choice for long rides, pro races, or gran fondo events.
BATCH LIFESTYLE 700C BIKE SIMPLE AND EASY TO USE Whether you're commuting to work, cruising the bike paths, or riding to your local coffee shop, you'll want a comfortable bike to take you there. The Batch Lifestyle 700c Bike is built for the rider who wants to get a few miles in every day, commute to work, or run errands around town.
The Greenfield RetroKit is a retro-mounting kickstand plate designed with a cutaway to clear derailleur cables. Jagwire's Sport Slick Stainless Shift Cable is a high-quality shift cable made of stainless steel for excellent shifting performance, corrosion resistance and durability. It also comes in lengths to fit single and tandem bicycles.
One of the most successful and popular pedals, and for good reason with its extremely simple, lightweight, inexpensive and famously durable plastic-bodied design. Often duplicated but never replicated. The Grandstand pedal features a unique slim profile, a wide platform and a comfortable concave that feels exceptional as soon as you set foot on it.

Decent experience. Took a bit of time (3 days) to get a wheel replaced, which I thought was a little strange, but given that things were probably busy on the shop's end and that the end results turned out quite nicely, I would recommend this establishment.
Owner is extremely nice; offered to help me find parts and replacement materials for possible future repairs.

My girlfriend went in today, "just looking" and ended up buying a new bike. The staff was very friendly and helpful. When we went later to pick it up after having the seat and tires "customized" she just didn't feel right on it. Jesus was very patient making adjustments, letting her test other bikes and ultimately swapping parts from another bike until she felt just right.
The whole time he was patient, understanding and kept saying - it will be right when it feels right to you.
Great experience all around. And they have bikes for sale again!

I had a bent gear that needed to be adjusted and I couldn't have went to a better place to get it fixed. Jesus took the bike and made it infinitely times better by the time I came back. Awesome service, fast fix rate, and another man to be thankful for in my life. Take the wheel, Jesus.

There is a good reason for the score here being much lower than the other options in Princeton (that are a short walking distance from this shop). They claimed fixing a simple flat tire takes them 3 days unless you are willing to pay an absurdly high premium and then "it might" be ready after a few hours. Another shop on the street fixed it in 30 minutes for less than half the price.

Seat of a brand new bike was scratched. Found it within their 30 day checkout period. They didn’t accept to change or give me a new seat. They are good otherwise.

NOTE: Charged more that I thought was expected.
I bought my Fuji bike year a few years ago and was told to come back in a few months to do a free brake adjustment due to the Princeton University students coming back to school and not being able to service the bike after breaking it it in (which should have been a week at max). This should have been a flag for me. Needless to say, time flew by and I forgot about it and put the bike through its paces when I had time on local trails, but this was nothing like my road bike where I put 100's of miles or wear and tear and more hills and stop and go

Great place to get your bike serviced or find a new bike. Staff is always busy, but never too busy to be nice and always make you feel like a valued customer. One of the best if not the best bike shops in New Jersey.

You couldn’t ask for a better shop. Expert Service that is quick and professional, great prices, and awesome product. What more could you ask for? Located in the heart of Princeton, near great bike routes, Kopp’s pays tribute to the history of the area. Would highly recommend you stop by if you are in town!

I was not impressed by this store. They did not have a very wide selection of bikes. But more importantly, I walked in and browsed. Several employees passed by me, yet nobody offered assistance. I would not go back there, mainly because they did not care to make me in to a customer.

Excellent customer service. Staff were very patient, answered all my questions and showed me how to use the bike properly. I dealt mostly with Jesus and Andrew(?) , great people. Definitely a step above other bike shops and worth the trip there. I usually don't write reviews but wanted to just thank them.

I came in today at the last minute when I discovered my bike computer was missing a piece needed to attach to the handlebar. Needed this done that day and it was already mid-afternoon. Needless to say the gentleman who helped me, I believe his name is Andrew could not of been more pleasant. Bike was ready in no time, he'd not only taken care of the issue but noticed the battery for the computer was dead, put air in the tires for me and had it trip ready. All at a very reasonable price!

I tend to find independently owned bike shop folks good people. The guys at Kopp's are exceptional. Prices are fair and the service is great. Wish I didn't live out of town and could make this my regular shop. Jesus went far above and beyond the call of duty and is the best I've met in my 30+ years of riding.

BEWARE: they charge a lot and often will charge more than expected.

I dropped my bike off for a simple tune up because my brakes seemed a bit off. I was expecting it to come out to about $30-$40 but when the person I dropped off the bike with quoted $60+ I just accepted that it was a bit overpriced. They told me they might change the chain but if they were going to, they would call me about it (since it makes no sense the change the chain as we go into winter season). But I received no call and when I picked up my bike I was told they had changed the chain and was charged $110, which was significantly

July 10 2015. I bring in and leave my bike there and go over $300-$400 upgrades with Jesus.

July 29 2015 I call about the status of my bike. They first cant find my ticket, then said it was misplaced--in the completed pile. So now I'll have to wait on parts.

August 17 2015 I call again. They can't find my name in the system again, not Jesus, and they don't know about the status of my bike.

August 19 2015 (just now). I call and Jesus & he tells me that we're still waiting for the part (internal gear hub). I ask politely if I can cancel my order and he's quick to

I have to admit: as much as I talk the talk, I can only proverbially crawl the walk when it comes to working on bicycles.

Simple stuff I can do fine enough but I really have no idea when it comes to cables and housing and derailleurs... Case in point: something was up with my derailleur, I tried to fix it, but things kept falling and loosening and slackening everywhere until I felt like my whole world was crumbling beneath my fingers and I had to throw in the towel.

José (I hope I got his name right) was extra nice and friendly! I really don't have much to say except that I got my bike

Updating my review. For the second time in a row, the final bill for the repairs came in well above what I was quoted at initial drop-off. The quote for replacement of a derailleur was $40, and with that plus the addition of some new handlebar tape, it came in at over $80. This time I didn't have the energy to argue and just paid it, but if I'd known the real price they planned to charge me, I'd have just bought the parts off the internet and done the repair myself.

I'll still choose them over Jay's as at least they're nice about it and they did a good job, but this

Cool shop. For such a small place it has a pretty good selection of commuters and higher end road bikes here. There's a bunch of NOS Campagnolo parts in box behind the front desk, so if your wallet is weighing you down a bit and you have a vintage Italian frame to build up I'd recommend checking them out.

Went to Kopps after going to a store in Somerville to have two bikes serviced. My wife and I are leisure bikers, around the neighborhoods, to the parks and shore with the bikes. We are not serious marathoners. When we brought our bikes into the Somerville shop we were laughed out. Our bikes are 10- years out yes, do the need a turn up, yes can we still ride them yes, but at Somerville, they wanted us to get new bikes, said they could not make our ride well and quoted us a price that almost seemed like we had to replace the bikes. When I said I"ll take them for a second estimate the tune

Buy your next bike at Kopps. I just did. Really neat bike. And they serviced another one for me. Great service. Not pushy but knowledgeable and quick turnaround time. Was told in the old days they sold a hundred plus bikes at Christmas. Now not so many. More wii and Xbox i guess. And more obesity and diabetes as well I suspect. Get off the couch in 2013. Get away from Facebook and all the booze and chips and cigarettes and go ride your bike around Princeton. If need a new one, buy it from Kopps or ask them to tune up your old one. BTW, free off street parking right next to the shop that fits a
