Good bread I have no complaints about that. The complaint I have is when my wife and I went and bought a loaf the guy working the register grabbed the loaf of bread from the rack bare handed like he was palming a basketball. No hand washing no glove, nothing and this is after handling who knows how much money and touching whatever else! My wife noticed it too but felt uncomfortable saying anything. I had to because if not that bread we just paid for was going straight in the trash. I had him give me a different one this time grabbing it with some paper.

OUTSTANDING! If you are gluten free and looking for a special occasion cake or coffee cake this is your place. I have tried other bakeries in Salem who’s GF cakes were dry and over priced. Oven Bird is priced well and the cake is the most moist cake I have ever had, even better than regular flour. This is definitely my new place, plus they are super friendly people. Thank you so much for my wonderful birthday cake, next I will order the sandwich rolls!

I stop here often for lunch. Their sandwiches are really good. Depending on the soup of the day I get that as well. The prices are good and the service is great. I've had both sour dough and wheat as they give you a choice and even asked to have one made on one of their poor boy size bagettes for variety. Great little lunch restaurant. Highly recommended.

We had Ovenbird Bakery make and delivery the cakes for our wedding, 150+ppl. Pink champagne cake with marionberry jam and vanilla buttercream frosting. Chocolate cake with vanilla pastry cream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. They tasted amazing, look beautiful, and were delivered on time. It was a pleasure working with Ovenbird and I look forward to trying more of their baked goods.

I recently ordered a carrot cake for a birthday celebration, and it was delicious! The head baker was very accommodating and knowledgeable. I'll be back!

I love going to this little bakery for coffee and a bakery item. Only wish they'd have more seating. Requests for particular items are taken, but obviously won't be made day of.

Up early in Independence is a little rough if you're looking for a cup of coffee and pastry! Stumbled upon Ovenbird Bakery while walking through town before 7am. Friendly staff, delicious smells, and great pastries and quiche. Our favorite were the almond croissant - almond paste all the way through the entire croissant, and the feta, tomato, pepperoncini quiche. Delicious! Wishing we found this gem yesterday when we arrived as they are only open M-S 6:30a-2:30p. Looking forward to our next visit!

AMAZING bread. The pastries are best when fresh out of the oven with those delicious fruits, and the croissants are to die for. LOVE the sandwiches. Staff is great!

Love this bakery. Everything I’ve had there is delicious. Katie did a great job on my daughter’s birthday cake.

Love their quiche! So many flavors to choose from. The strong coffee is a plus also. Very friendly staff. A bit dark inside. Needs better lighting!

Wonderful baked products. Be sure to try the quiche and hamburger buns. I drive over 30 miles for their products. Often they are out of hamburger buns but you can order ahead to pick up at a later date.
But stay away from the bacon cheddar croissants! They are mine, all mine I tell you! :)

The best local bakery! They have rotating options all are so great! GF options and staff is knowledgeable! Do yourself a favor and go here!

Delicious. They offer a fantastic selection of quiche, baked goods, pastries, breads, sandwiches and soups! If you go in on Friday, they have rye bread (they have other breads daily too). Saturday they have the best bacon cheese croissants and chocolate croissants, and pecan sticky buns. They always have a nice selection.
They have many gluten free options too. If you need a cake, they work with ANY theme you want and can make all sorts of allergy specific accommodations.

Their croissants are heavenly! Easily the best bakery in the general Salem area. Their blueberry pastry was amazing... and still warm out of the oven. Located in the heart of downtown Independence, this would be a great place to spend a lazy morning sipping coffee and enjoying small town goings on.

Great food! The quiche is a quick healthy breakfast alternative for this area! All the pastries are great too, especially the cinnamon rolls with raisins.

Oven bird is consistently good! Love their pastries and quiche. And the bread of course. And they make the best buns for BG's barbecue.
And try the little cookies they make different every day.

Loved their coffee and sandwiches! Visiting in from CA and so our standards can unintentionally be a bit high and happily this little place surprised us. Everyone was incredibly kind too!

Wow, wow, wow! The most delicious breads for their sandwiches. I was sooo impressed. I'm also a Sucker for lemon cookies and theirs are the best I've ever had.

What is better than the smell of freshly baked bread? Well, eating delicious pastries while smelling freshly baked bread. This is a cozy little place wih great breakfast and pastry items. Quiche was divine, as well as the flaky crusted pastries. Hot, fresh bread for sale daily. You will be sure to find something you love here.

I'm sure there are bakeries in the big cities that are better, so my 5 star rating could be skewed, HOWEVER, this place does make delicious,fresh baked bread that is delicious and definitely worth trying if you're on the fence about it, you won't be disappointed.

This little bakery is a gem in an up and coming area of Independence. I have been visiting Ovenbird for several years and it only gets better with time. I have had multiple sandwiches and their various breads sour dough, wheat and focaccia- all have been delicious. They serve great coffee at a good price and delicious soups, pastries and cookies. The owner is so kind and polite and she is willing to accommodate any order she can. I have ordered several dozen iced cookies from their place and have been delighted every time. I have taken home their frozen pizza dough both regular and gluten free

While my wife and I were antiquing in the quaint little town of Independence, Oregon we got hungry and decided to stop into a charming little bakery for a bite to eat. Ovenbird Bakery has amazing fresh bread, friendly staff, all around fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. Love it.
