Onestar Bicycles
If you have finally been encouraged to start a new adventure on top of a bike, we welcome you to the world of cycling, I hope this is the beginning of an incredible pastime, which for many becomes a great passion. The excitement of going out to roll is a lot and that is why we prepare the following tips for your first experiences pedaling.

Prepare your bike Before going out to roll remember to check if your tires are well inflated, the pressure of these will be important for a better performance in your wheel, do not forget to check the brakes, as well as the changes, these two elements must be well adjusted. Finally the chain of your bike must be lubricated.
Services
Bicycle riding is both a sport and a hobby. In fact, it's a fitness hobby that can be enjoyable for general family outings or be competitive for mountain or road biking competitions. No matter which level of cycling you enjoy, there will always be special accessories to help you with each style. In this article, I present several essential accessories you would want to have and use when cycling, irrespective of the type of cycling you undertake.
Mention a mountain bike and the first thing that comes into mind is rugged terrain or steep slopes. But mountain bikes are made for much more than that. Throughout the years, these off-road bikes have continued to evolve with different riding styles and disciplines being added to the list. This has led to manufacturers improving on the specs to meet the ever-changing needs.

This Bike shop isn't for everyone! I had to get that out there before preceding.
(Keep in mind it's run by 1 guy)
- doesn't answer the phone too often and very slow at responding to txts. Best best is to go onto the shop.

If you are HARDCORE into mountain biking this is your local spot for Service & high end parts, Onestar had a LOT. Somehow they have parts you can't even get online and at a better price.
Shop itself: It's a very small shop and there are party everywhere in kind of an organized disarray lol

I just bought parts so I'm only reviewing

One of the most impressive collections of bikes in KC, used or new there are always some cool bikes at this shop. Also has a great variety of components, accessories, and tires. This is the shop you go to when you want to make an upgrade.

I disagree with the bad reviews for this place. It is true that this is a small shop packed with bikes and items, which doesn't lend itself to easy browsing. Nor is this shop the kind of place where one or more employees will seek you out and ask if you need help. I certainly don't dislike that kind of shop, by the way. But I have had very positive experiences here. I got a great deal on a nice road bike and have taken it in once for adjustments which were done quickly and professionally. The guys here are pleasant and passionate about bikes. I've been to snobby bike shops and this

Awsome shop, broke a shifting cable out on a ride and they took care of it right away without an issue, they also made some xtra adjustments at no charge. I'm in town for business from CA and was stoked by their friendliness and service. I would highly recommend this shop, highly knowledgeable and skilled.

Mechanic fixed my bike very quickly despite me walking in while the shop was slammed. He was super friendly and even suggested places around the city to ride and view the skyline. Great people, will absolutely return! I wish they had some of those cool Volker (KC) shirts in medium!

Great shop. Top quality mechanics. The guys even let me borrow a wheel set until my new wheels were ready. Awesome customer service!

I do not like to give businesses negative reviews. I generally give them a "pass" or two before doing so. Everyone has a bad day on occasion. In other words, you have to mess up pretty consistently for me to take the time for me to post something negative, publicly, about your business, or just hose me down one time really badly.

I've tried to interact with Volker three times now, with the same result.

On two occasions, I emailed/messaged the store looking for a certain bike. In both cases, I received a curt one or two word answer in the negative. Today's answer to my

Best bike shop in KC. Period. It may yake some work to get some help if you have never been in before but these dudes hook it up and do amazing work. Not really for the weekend warrior but if you are a regular biker you will def appreciate what they have going on.

Volker is an awesome shop. Britton will take care of you. Prices are very reasonable, and the staff remembers me when I come back in. Last time I stopped in they didn't have what I needed in stock, but directed me to another shop in town that did. Cool group of guys that do a lot for the local cycling community!

Volker Bikes has been my local bike shop for years and I've purchased my last four bikes from Britton. He actually keep bike components and clothing in stock (a lot of shops don't anymore). If he doesn't have the part I need he can usually order it and have it at the shop in about a week. Support your local bike shop and stop buying bike accessories on Amazon. Amazon won't stay open late to fix your bike so you can bike to work tomorrow.

Good selection and prices, but could be a bit more approachable. Got the feeling I was not really welcome because I wasn't a regular. Got a tuneup for my bike only for my tire to be flat by the time I got home due to old and warped liner tape. Felt like that was something that they should've checked in the tuneup. Instead it cost me more to get fixed. Go to Midwest, more friendly and thorough.

If you are looking to buy a new, quality bike or you need bike repairs, this is probably a good place to go. If you need accessories, they have limited options. Actually they may have more and they might have what you need, but they aren't very customer service orientated.

The shop has a lot of bikes and is a pretty tight fit which makes it tough to look around if there are more than a couple of customers in there.

Not a huge fan.

I've switched to Volker from my bike's brand name shop...Britton & Zack are amazing..knowledgeable, efficient...very reasonably priced. They're very busy because of their skills & value...it might take 5 or minutes to get their attention...so what? You get honest value...and, they've never tried to pressure 'up-sell' me..they give me options. Never trust a skinny chef, and never trust a sterile mechanic. These guys rock!

Very unorganized. I felt like I was trying to walk through my grandpa's garage over piles of stuff in boxes. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but not too nice either. They barely said a word to me and seemed annoyed if I asked a question. Not the hip bike store I'm used to and unfortunately I will not recommend.

Not the place for friendly, smile, greet you at the door and ask "how can I help you?" customer service. More of the tell us what you need to buy or need fixed and we'll take care of you. Just speak up!

Shop is covered in beautiful bikes. To my recollection they carry the finest in Pinarello, Jamis, and a couple others that I can't remember right now. A fun place to look around, and the workers and customers usually have a case or two of craft brews out as well. 39th street at its finest.

This is the best bike shop in KC, bar none. The guys are friendly and helpful, and they really take care of your bike. I took mine in not knowing what was wrong with it and after a couple days, the bike is humming like new.

Some of the bike shops in JoCo and out south will completely overcharge and rip people off for the smallest tweaks, and that is definitely not the case here. If you can't find the exact bike you're looking for, they don't hesitate to point you in the right direction elsewhere or give you honest advice.

Cheap. Awkward at times as the bike mechanics also serve as sales people sometimes. Don't let this put you off, though.

Buy a bike here and they'll take care of you forever. The owner is a huge bicycling advocate and the shop is involved on a fundamental level in sponsoring and contributing to many local bike community events.

Hopefully my Jamis touring bike I got here lasts me many years, but if not, I'll gladly be back to buy from Volker again.

Volker Bikes is my go-to spot for my cycling stuff and I will always go there first as long as I'm in KC. They have great prices on their services and the staff is some of the most knowledgeable you will find. They never try to sell you on something just to make a sale. If you don't need it, they will be honest with you and tell you. It is definitely a hipster spot but everyone is always very accomodating. The only reason that I give four stars instead of five is because it is seriously a mess in their (the 39th St. location...never been to the Crossroads locale). This really doesn&apos

The best bike shop in Kansas City hands down. It's dirty, there are bikes everywhere, space is limited, but that's what is so great about it. It's got a skate shop/surf shop vibe and I dig that. The opposite of a huge corporate Performance Bike type shop.

If you don't see something you need or want, ask. They will usually have something.

It's owned and run by cyclists, still passionate about the sport and involved in the local cycling scene. That's worth something in my book. Support local businesses and support fellow cyclists.

Volker on 39th is staffed and run by bike hipsters that don't care about people. The place is a complete mess. Nothing is priced therefore they will overcharge you. Go shopping here, then buy it online or go to Family Bicycles or other LBS if you need service. You will not get service at Volker.

5 STARS all the way. Really cool people. Really informative services. Low prices and dusty flooring. I like it like that - makes me feel at home ...
Story of my life, my bike got stolen. So I purchase crappy Huffy Tiempo // ooooooo?!? No, again POS ... So after paying for it get tuned up and waiting for Monday night kickball, I get a call from the shop. "Hey man, it's Shawn, umm I'm going to give you a $10 refund because there's nothing more I can do for your bike. It's a POS" thanks bro

I've really enjoyed my experience at Volker Bicycles. The staff are really knowledgeable about bikes, accessories, and the like. I was a little nervous to take my fairly beat up slightly embarrassing bike there for a tune-up (it was really more of a I'm-not-sure-what-it-needs-or-why-its-making-that-noise trip). For the uneducated about bikes and not wanting to be judged type of person I am, I really liked the keep-to-themselves staff. I went in told the guy what I was hearing in my very uneducated talk. He came outside to check out my bike told me what would probably help it most

Very cool, little bike shop in the heart of the shopping/dining area on W 39th.

I cannot remember the brand name of the bikes they carry, but they are a brand I've never heard (not Trek or the like). I would classify this spot as something of a hip bike retailer for people willing to plop down a fair amount of cash for a new set of wheels. Appears to be more of a place for legit, recreational, city bike people. They also had some interesting, branded, Volker Bikes apparel for sale.

Nice spot, but no service when I browsed... ?
