This place is historic and centrally located in scenic Frenchtown. The room was spaceous and well appointed. However the bathroom had hairs in the sink and the shower wasn't really that clean but I understand that there is a shortage of staffing this industry so the lack of stars isn't a total reflection on the hotel itself ...if it was it would be 4 stars...but the thing everyone needs to know about this area is that it's so far removed from normal civilization that it's next to impossible to get an Uber past 8pm and that includes Lyft! Both our rideshares cancelled on us because we were at a

I can not thank Pete DeCosta and his hotel staff for such a beautiful and enjoyable wedding. My daughters and I started planning her wedding, a year ago during lockdown, not knowing what would happen with the pandemic. We needed a small venue that would be the right size for our family. We immediately booked our bridal party rooms when we saw how gorgeous the rooms were. Plus, Frenchtown, New Jersey has the exact Fall, rustic charm we were looking for. The prices are very reasonable for that area, that time of year.
It is a lot of work to rejuvenate a building like the National Hotel, the DeCosta

Last weekend was both my wife's birthday, and our wedding anniversary. With a young toddler, we don't get away much, especially with the pandemic. But we decided to go ahead and try a one night escape and landed at the National Hotel. This hotel, while beautiful on the outside and friendly in service, misses the mark in some key areas.
1) Appearance (outside)- The outside appearance of the hotel is quite striking. It's a beautiful building in the heart of lovely Frenchtown. You really can't ask for much more in that department!
1a) Appearance (Inside)- The inside of the hotel room was a bit less

I understand historic but it does not have to be run down!!! Poorly furnished, screechy floors, bad linen, thin below quality towels, very low voltage lighting through the room. There is a spot on the floor as you go into the bathroom that feels that is sinking and I tumbled a couple of times. This hotel has a great location BUT it does not do justice to the charming Frenchtown.
The bed or may be the covers may have had bed bugs because my husband and I both were scratching all night.
Parking is limited snd were told that if there isn’t enough parking you could “across the street at a GAS

I was there for the weekend, Friday and Saturday night and had to pay an extra $30.00 per night because I didn't stay the whole weekend, the room was a bit shabby, paint pealing around the windows from what looked to be old water damage, there was a crack in the wall in the very plain bathroom and the same pealing paint in the bathroom. There was no hot water to speak of and the towels were very small and thin enough to see light through, there was only a small pedestal sink and nowhere to put anything down. There was no internet and when I asked about it the response was “that’s funny it works

Wow. What a place this is especially for an open mic night or whenever there's live music. The place is phenomenal. It's just simply fantastic. Easily one of the best joints in the area to grab a beer and just simply relax and enjoy the comfortable cozy 'dive' environment. Bartenders are always friendly and polite towards you. They make you feel welcomed. Very good at making and delivering the drinks promptly which is a quality missing in this world. The service was also right on key. Brought out everything as quickly as the order went in. The food you'd think for being

If you wanna dive bar "hole in the wall" type place... well you have found it my friends. AN AWESOME one at that! Frenchtown's hidden gem is underneath the national hotel known as "the rat". The bartenders are nothing but friendly and welcoming as soon as you enter. Food is the same menu as upstairs in the national (which offers a range of fine dining favorites). Gotta try the scallops and watermelon. The scallops are cooked to perfection. You feel like you're in a speaker easy under ground secret. Deff go back in time here. Probably the coolest bar I've ever

This is a total dive bar but once you test the water you will be feeling fine! Donna the bartender is the most amazing bartender ever and if you're nice to her she might even pop some popcorn for you!
If you want to go a little wild, ask for a Tokyo Tea and you won't be disappointed! Or I dunno, maybe you will be....I don't know you!

I have never been dissapointed with this place. It's the place where friends gather when everything else has closed. Donna the bartender is the greatest bartender on this side of the country, and she will make you anything you could ever ask for! A little crowded, and loud at times, the merriment is never questioned, if its too tightly packed, take your friends and stand around by the fireplace. There live music a few nights a week, trivia night, and karaoke. Definitely a place of Frenchtown history!
