Fred Mikes established Mikes Bike Shop in 1959. After high school, he trained as a car mechanic, and during WWII, he trained as an aircraft mechanic. Eventually, Fred's mechanical abilities and the "American Dream" led him to open a bike shop. Fred planned to open his own bike shop in Bensenville where he lived.

What a revelation. My first time back in town after 15 years. I brought back with me a Brompton folding bike from England. The bike needed a rim, which are very specific - it would take an original 6 weeks to get in, so the chaps at Mike's thought outside the box. Ordered me an American made Velocity rim. Case closed. Also got a complete tune up which turned out to be awesome as well. Great team, great work guys. See you soon in the Spring for major purchase of a carbon 💪🔙🙏

I talked to an employee on Monday and was quoted a price of $42 to replace 2 tires from my bike. When I went to pick up my tires I was told the cost was $75. The original cost quoted to me was $14 per tire and $7 each for installation. When I complained about being charged much more than originally quoted I was told they were sorry for the mistake but I still had to pay the extra $33. I will not be going back to this place.

I came across this shop bc I needed a tire replaced and the shop closer to me was busy but now I’m glad I found Mikes. The whole staff from the young guys to the older gentleman have been nothing but friendly, polite and helpful. I’ve been back a couple times since and this last time I took my nephews hand-me-down bike for a tune up. The guy that helped me (I believe his name was Matt) made all sorts of recommendations for this old bike and even helped me stay within budget. I bought this 🚲 bike for $400, since I needed to find a ride to pickup my bike, I placed it on hold so I only paid half then the other half when I pick it up one week later. Even though, I had this problem that they didn't adjust my seat while being at the shop, 4 days after purchased somebody 📞 called me & said they were going to come to my house & adjust my seat on the 🚲 bike. After they came to my house, they apologize for the inconvenience. Any place that care's for the customers is the place to go.

I’ve called many bike shops in search for a nice hybrid bike and Mike’s bike shop were the nicest and most courteous people I’ve talked to. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted and the staff is very knowledgeable and passionate about bikes. Was able to score a nice Giant Roam 4 even with bikes being so scarce during these hard times. They definitely exceeded my expectations and will recommend them to my friends and family.

Wayne and everyone at Mike’s Bikes are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. It is clear they have a passion for what they do and for sharing that knowledge with the community to help others enjoy the activity as much as they do. It is also clear why they have been in business for 6 decades! They have a great selection of bikes and accessories which, in these times, are very hard to come by. I found everything I needed there. Ended up buying a new bike and various accessories. I am new to cycling, so the advice and assistance from the entire staff while I was there was very helpful and appreciated
