When students first explore their student housing options, the traditional dorm room probably comes to mind - a small room in a residence hall, featuring bunk beds for you and a roommate while sharing a mini-fridge in the corner. Or maybe they're looking for their first off campus apartment, one with a park view and short commute to class.

Our son too was charged an exorbitant amount of money when he moved out. He only lived there a year and they basically renovated the whole apartment and charged the boys for it. We were there at graduation and the place was in good shape. There were some marks on the floor by the dining table and they replaced all the floors and charged $4000. Also were charged for carpet replacement and fridge replacement which they later removed because they were not replaced. Make sure to take lots of pictures before and after you move ! Hunter was very nice and polite to deal with but we feel it was a rip off

If I could give a -5 stars I would. This housing company is terrible. The staff do not care and they charge you ridiculous fines on move out with no proof or validity. It is a money making scam.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Read Ruben Ortiz’s review and you will know everything you need to about this place.
When I first came to the Retreat, I got full approval for move-in from a staff member. Then comes the time I arrive to the office they did not give me my keys because their manager had left without informing me that this would be an issue. I’d driven hours and had to drive back to move-in the next day. Their excuse was “that staff member must have been new” without even a measly apology.
The Retreat appeals to many because of its amenities. What you don’t know is that

As someone who has lived at 3 different housing complexes in harrisonburg, your money can be better spent elsewhere. The front office and maintenance staff were often rude when we had to interact with them. Their guest parking process is a hassle even though the parking spots were never full. They fine the residents every chance they get and try to find every little issue to charge for at move-out. We were once fined because one of the chairs from the back porch blew onto the grass during a storm when we were not home. Amenities are also not very accessible.

Going on my third year here and I just want to let everyone know listen to the bad reviews save your money! Haven’t had amenities fully open in 2 years and now will continue to have outdoor restriction with multiple other complex’s not carrying these decisions out. Go to aspen or copper!!!

My daughter has lived at The Retreat now for two years and absolutely loves it! We actually ended up signing again for her last year at JMU. If you're looking for a beautiful place not far from campus you should totally check it out! The staff has always been wonderful to work with and maintenance is awesome!

So happy I chose to live here. I was nervous about the roommate matching program, but the staff matched me with a perfect group of girls based on my roommate preferences. I'm so glad it worked out so well. Management is incredibly helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

This is my second year living at the retreat. I enjoy the location of my cottage and the atmosphere here, but there are a few things that I wish could be different. For example, no one ever answers the phone in the office. At this point in time, they require us to call before showing up at the office but we can never get the things we need if no one answers the phone. Don't have your office hours be at certain times if no one is actually working. Second, the price is not necessarily worth the size of the room I have. I am moving to another community next year and am paying almost $100 less per

I LOVE the retreat community! This is my second year living here and I'm already signed up for a third! You can really tell that it is a "community" and the maintenance staff, help desk, and office are so helpful. The amenities are updated and clean. The houses are adorable and make for the perfect college housing. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else, LIVE HERE!!
