We stopped in for the first time since we were in the area. We were greeted and seated promptly. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the cooler weather. Our waitress, Paula, was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the classic and added a short stack of pancakes, chicken tender basket, and the classic egg sandwich with potatoes. Everything was good, and I look forward to coming back here soon.

I was staying at the hotel connected to the restaurant so I popped in because I was starving and I ordered the breakfast sandwich thinking I would just eat quick and then take a walk around town. The presentation of the fruit cup was beautiful and the breakfast sandwich was the size of my face. Great service from Erin, super laid back and relaxed feel and made my experience wonderful.

I was disappointed to discover Ella Mae's has dropped fried green tomatoes from the menu. They were among the best in town and I always recommended them when encouraging friends to try this restaurant. However, the ambience remains delightful and the outdoor seating is perfect in the winter. I've been here several times and the food's consistently good and the servers friendly.

This was my first time trying Ella Mae's Diner and as a breakfast lover, I went for the Florentine Smoked Salmon Benedict, which comes with a side of potatoes. Overall, great! Messy! I love messy breakfast! Next time I'll say to go low on the salt because the salmon is already salty, besides that, I would recommend and will return to try something else.

The area is beautiful, the diner is cool, the lady at the front counter (hostess) is AMAZING! She was energetic and welcoming. The food was good and the service was nice. I rated it 4 stars out of 5 because I read the story of Dr Ella Mae Piper when the business owner responded to another review. My server should've mentioned the QR code and history. What's the point of creating something amazing if your employees aren't telling anyone?

Very nice place for breakfast or lunch. Sit outside and enjoy the breeze and view or yachts and river. Quiet outside considering you are downtown. Server was on spot, Prompt, considerate and friendly. We had chicken fried steak and bourbon pecan French toast. Very good. Would recommend! Coffee was fresh and good.

Great diner with quality food. Loved the inside decor it was like a modernized old fashion look. Had my coworker who was visiting stay at the autograph collection Marriott that is attached to this restaurant and she enjoyed a few meals here.
The service was fast and food was fresh. Taste just like a home cooked meal. Staff was tentative and friendly. I will definitely be back.

In town for the weekend and decided to try this place despite the 3&1/2 stars. Restaurant vibes are nice, pretty cool plus it's by the water and they have indoor and outdoor seating. The food ehh, it wasn't the best.
And the service was not the best. The lady at the front desk was very sweet and made us feel welcomed as well as the guy taking up the plates, unfortunately the waitress wasn't attentive to our table and was very rushed pretty much as to get us out of the way quickly.

We loved it so much, we came back the next morning. For me, it’s the place where I can get the best of both worlds. I was feeling a lighter healthier breakfast the first day and my veggie and ham egg white omelet exceeded my expectations. The next day I wanted sweet and indulgent - the bourbon pecan French toast is breakfast perfection. The only thing I wish I could have had was salsa for my omelet and maple syrup for my French toast. Both dishes didn’t need it but that would have put them on a whole other level. The coffee is a cup of perfection which didn’t surprise me. Our service was

Went for lunch. Even though they weren't really busy everything was slow.
I had the fish and chips and fries were cold, fish was heavily breaded and NO flavor. Everyone at the table tried it and NO one would order it if they visit again.
PoBoys were just ok.
Waitress was nice but went over board explaining delays and why. She went to get a small carry out box and didn't return for quite sometime.
It took over two hours to just have a boring lunch.
We went for breakfast the first visit and overall it was good but we could have nothing from the grill as they lost grill to a power

This place is in the new Luminary Hotel in downtown Fort Myers. The hotel is decidedly upscale and beautiful.
Ella Mae's is very diner-like and well done. Service was great. The food? So-so.
We had the Chicken Fried Steak and the Turkey & Bacon Club Sandwich. While the steak was quite good, the gravy was lackluster and the English muffin badly undercooked, almost raw. We took it home to toast it later. The Club Sandwich was fun but had too much deli turkey and way too much Mayo. The Onion Rings were delicious.
Overall a fun experience, and we may return but not too soon.

I think named in honor of Dr. Ella Mae Piper, one of the most stand out and gracious of citizens of Fort Myers. She was a black foot doctor, hairstylist, soda pop bottler, activist, social worker and philanthropist. On her death in 1954, she willed her home and property to "...the poor, indigent or physically handicapped residents of Fort Myers and Lee County." She was indeed a person to be honored and looked up to.
As for the restaurant itself, it's a part of the Luminary Hotel mainly serving breakfasts. It's brand new, has an excellent first floor location pleasantly set

Ella Mae's Diner is new. Located on the ground floor of the new Luminary Hotel in downtown Ft Myers.
Our first time here, our experience was a little weak. This was a Saturday morning - during the Ft Myers Boat Show. Service was okay - but maybe they were overwhelmed by the extra business. Our coffee cups went empty and it was a very long time before we got refills. The coffee was very good btw.
When our orders arrived, they didn't bring my wifes toast for her "sunny side" eggs. We told the runner about the toast. She waited.... and waited. When our waitress came back

This could have gone one of two ways. Our first experience there was not very good. But since we were on a package that included breakfast, we felt obligated to go back. Thankfully we did.
Day 1, we waited. We waited. And we waited some more. We ordered and our server brought out coffee, but no cream. A few moments later, we got our cream. The coffee was pretty good.
Breakfast was really no thrills. Some eggs, toast, bacon and potatoes. The taters were over seasoned. Otherwise, the rest was okay.
Day 2 was completely different. Seated immediately, our server was asking

Enjoyed a breakfast and a lunch at Ella Mae's diner. Had the bowl with grits, eggs, sausage, and gravy for breakfast. The cheese grits were not as rich and buttery as I had hoped. But I add a little extra butter and sat then, then I liked them much better. This was a surprisingly hearty breakfast and I would advise anybody who's really hungry to order that.
For lunch I enjoyed a side salad with green goddess dressing and their fried catfish with a side of sweet potato soufflé. The green goddess dressing was very herbaceous and delicious! The fried catfish had a slight airy tempura type

Cheese side was better than most I've gotten at restaurants. The only real drawback was the mash potatoes which I feel were actually powdered mash potatoes. Other than the mash potatoes the food was great!

So I'll start off by saying the prices are very reasonable.
Now for a southern soulful restaurant they miss the mark. Collard greens in Florida always are served with Hot Pepper sauce. I know it intimately as HOT vinegar. It is the most essential necessity to greens PERIOD. I have been told that the chef refuses to carry such sauce. I guess next time I will need to come with bottle in hand.
Once we have our food I'll update my review.
