Founded in 1979, Reading Montessori School is a preschool for children ages 3-6 based on a program developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. Our goal is to foster each child's development to its fullest potential; physically, intellectually and socially.
The Montessori philosophy and specially designed classroom materials help each child develop patterns of independence, concentration, perseverance, thoroughness and self-esteem to become competent learners with a real love of learning as well as respect for themselves, others and their environment.Reading Montessori School offers both a preschool and kindergarten for ages 2.9 through 6.

Services
With our commitment to children, families, and community, Reading Montessori School provides a joyful and respectful learning environment. By following the needs of each individual child, we create a positive setting that promotes hands-on learning, encourages independence, emphasizes inclusivity, and values peace education.
Designed for toddlers from age 18 months to 2.9 years old. Similar to our Preschool and Kindergarten programs, there will be 3-day and 5 half-day, and 5 full-day options. This program will be based on the teaching philosophies of Maria Montessori and Magda Gerber (founder of RIE - Resources for Infant Educarers) If you are interested in this program, please email us for more information, application forms, and tuition rates.
The importance of the Practical Life exercises cannot be overstated, for they form the basis for the other areas of the curriculum: Sensorial, Language and Math. These exercises must involve real activities in a real environment that teach the child that she can do things on her own to care for herself and her environment.
Reading Montessori is fortunate to have a very active Parent Guild. With the goal of enhancing the Montessori experience, the Parent Guild raises funds for our enrichment programs enabling us to have music, drama, science, and puppeteering experiences throughout the school year.
In addition to the work for the enrichment program, the Parent Guild organizes gatherings and some adults only events such as: community service projects, mom's/dad's night out, and fall/winter/spring socials. The Parent Guild welcomes participation from all. A fantastic school with a top notch staff.

Visit our outdoor classroom where the children learn about their environment, play with friends and enjoy the day. Tour our bright, open second classroom at RMS. This classroom has the benefit of being the closest to the play area and has a beautiful outdoor view. Take a look at the RMS geography area, where the children learn about the natural environment.

Our daughter has completed her first year at Reading Montessori School. She was 2.9 years in September 2015, the youngest possible age, and we were concerned about the impact 5-mornings would have on her. She has thrived.
The consistent morning routine allowed for a quick adjustment, from her first time care outside our home. Transitions are a challenge for little ones, the teaching staff’s professionalism and compassion, alongside RMS’ peaceful environment, have allowed for tremendous growth, both socially and intellectually.

We have been incredibly happy with this preschool for our children. All of the teachers are highly skilled and dedicated to the Montessori approach to education. My children have learned so much from their incredible teachers, as well as from the other children in the program, and have made wonderful friends. Attention is paid to each child's learning style, strengths, and areas of development, and the low student/teacher ratio allows the teachers to support each child through their own learning process. Fantastic extra activities, such as music and theater enrichment, take place regularly. So

I cannot say enough good things about this fantastic little preschool. The staff and teachers are so dedicated, involved, engaged and passionate about each and every child that comes through their doors. The low teacher to student ratio, serene environment, and wonderful enrichment opportunities put this school in a league of its own. I was so apprehensive about choosing a preschool but I am so happy that I chose Reading Montessori. We are so thankful that our son has had the opportunity to attend. He has thrived under their care and guidance. He loves going to school and always comes home happy

My son is in his third year at RMS, and I cannot say enough about the school. He originally started in a neighborhood nursery school, and it was not a good fit for him. He is very active and needs to move A LOT, and he is also very bright and needs a lot of intellectual stimulation. The combination was hard for our local preschool to provide. Since going to RMS, his self-esteem has skyrocketed and he is excelling in every domain. He LOVES school and comes out every single day with a smile on his face and full of things to discuss. Since he is very advanced in his reading, his teachers provide him
