I love my profession because it allows me to meaningfully improve the quality of someone's life every hour of every day. I get to meet interesting people, talk about eyeballs (my favorite subject), and provide the best care possible to my friends and community. Dr. Shin received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his Doctor of Optometry from Marshall B. Ketchum University.
Scleral lenses are large-diameter lenses designed to cover the cornea completely as well as extend onto the white portion of the eye, known as the sclera. This type of specialty lens is ideal for certain ocular conditions that are not compatible with traditional glasses and contact lenses. Certain eye conditions, like keratoconus, can cause the eye to develop an irregular shape which makes vision distorted and blurry.
We use the latest technology to provide accurate prescriptions and thorough eye health evaluations. We take the time to explain our findings and work with you to create a plan to keep your eyes as healthy as possible. We fit standard, colored, astigmatism, monovision, bifocal, and hard/rigid gas permeable contacts.

My eye doctor retired and referred me to Gig Harbor Eye Care. I was able to get in the same day that I called on a cancellation, and they were very professional and efficient.
Dr. Gosnell performed a thorough exam after her staff did baseline tests. Dr G answered all my questions and gave me some excellent recommendations.

The facility is very friendly. I would have appreciated being notified prior to the visit that I would be seeing a different doctor than the one I booked with and more importantly, that you did not receive any images from my previous provider to be able to evaluate the changes. Without the ability to evaluate changes, I would have chosen to reschedule the visit and feel like it was not a good use of our time and money.

I recently used Gig Harbor Eye Care to order lenses for my sunglasses. They were very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I requested the order and ETA was 2 weeks. However, my order was delayed due to an error/issue at the lab creating my lens. Though the laboratory is responsible for the delay of my order, Gig Harbor Eye Care still took the responsibility and kept professional service with my order. They have followed up and given updates each week. Finally, after 4 weeks since my request, I finally received my order. The product came flawlessly with a specific request I made. Thank you

The office manager, Christine, is fantastic. She is intelligent, personable and very helpful.
If you are picking out glasses and have no idea what you want ask for Jamie. Everything she suggested that I tried on I loved. That has never happened when I've picked out my own frames!

Jamie and Dr. Shin are hands down amazing. They are very good at paying attention to detail and any questions you have are addressed. Dr. Shin was kind and patient with any questions I had and I loved the state of the art technology. His whole team made my eye exam smooth and painless and I highly recommend. According to the hubby, Dr. Shin provided excellent care and has very good bedside manners. Hubby is not one to enjoy any medical appointments but vision is the least distressing. The office team was super friendly and helpful. He was impressed by the cleanliness of the office also. It made the overall visit pleasant and he would strongly recommend. My own appointment with Dr. Shin is next month. Looking forward to it!

I have reached an age where the professionals I have trusted for years have retired. Finding an eye care professional I trust has been difficult. That is until yesterday. I received a comprehensive, initial examination, along with patient explanations of each piece of high-tech equipment. Their approach left me feeling informed, rather than patronized or demeaned. I was a bit apprehensive about having to bring my two small children with to my eye appointment, but my nerves were unfounded. Dr. Shin and his staff were wonderful with my kids and took great care of us. They allowed us to do both my daughter and my own exams at the same time (which was so convenient). Dr. Shin took the time to teach me things about eye care that no other doctor has ever bothered to share. Great experience with Dr. Shin. He obviously cares about his patients and took pains to make sure my somewhat difficult prescription was just right. As a bonus, he seems to understand insurance coverage well and takes that into account when presenting options. There is no up-selling and the office as a whole is pleasant.

I have gone to a lot of places for my eye appointments in Washington from Seattle to Tacoma. However, Dr. David Shin's office is one to rave about; with its' newer state of the art technology and advanced tools for eyes, you can say that he is working with the best. You only get one set of eyes, so make sure you take care of them!
We came in and were very impressed with how beautiful the office is, if you don't like the wait and pain of ugly doctor offices this place will change how you see all of that (excuse the pun). I liked the fact that the forms and checking in were hassle

I am so happy with my visit here. My prescription is pretty high and I was tired of wearing my glasses because they were so heavy. I also hate wearing traditional contacts because my eyes get so dry at the end of the day. I thought those were my only two options besides lasik (which I would never do), but Dr. Shin informed me about a specialty contact that wouldn't irritate my eye at the end of the day. He made custom lenses for my eyes called Sclerals (sp?) and they feel amazing! There was a slight learning curve for me as to how to take them on and off, but Dr. Shin was so informative and

Wonderful optometrist. I saw Dr. Shin and he was very knowledgeable in regards to my eye health and taught me a lot about my eyes and how to keep them well.
The office is brand new and parking is very easy. Very clean, and modern look. He has automated equipment that made the process very fast. I was able to get a nice pair of glasses through my insurance and my vision has never been better.
