NorthStar Regional (NSR) is a behavioral health organization dedicated to helping people with mental health and substance use disorders Move Forward in HopeSM. NorthStar Regional provides Residential and Intensive Outpatient Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment, Individual and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) mental health counseling services, chemical dependency treatment, and sober housing.

Headquartered in Chaska, Minnesota, NorthStar Regional was founded in 2015 by Hal Baumchen, PsyD, LP, LADC; Jason Vanderscoff, LADC; and Thomas Winegarden, MD. The mission of NorthStar Regional is to provide kind, compassionate, and effective care for those with mental health and substance use disorders.
Services
Men's Intensive Outpatient with lodging - No Wait List - Immediate Openings Available - 2 Beds Now Available. NorthStar Regional will not be opening a 245F facility at our Otsego Location, due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we are continuing to work to develop a 245G Residential and IOP facility and hope to have that open in the coming months.
I was introduced to Northstar Regional in February of 2018 while I was serving a sentence in the Carver County jail for a DWI offense. I was completely broken as a man, and had no other options. I went directly from the jail to Northstar's impatient facility. After completing 30 days in impatient, I transitioned to their intensive outpatient program with lodging.
Learn more about our residential substance abuse treatment on our residential program page. Contact us today at 952-208-1109 to discuss our residential substance abuse treatment options. We've had many who have praised their experiences at the NorthStar Regional Men's Residential program. They felt as thought they were cared about and heard, which is so important in our line of care.
NorthStar Regional provides a variety of mental health services and treatment programs to meet the needs of those struggling with issues related to mental health or substance abuse. NorthStar Regional treats co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders at the same time, in the same place, with the same highly qualified and highly trained staff.
As addictions take over one's life, substance use disorder treatment is a way to regain control. Addictions may begin with a personal choice to use alcohol or drugs, but research shows that for many, a physiological dependence takes hold. Like other chronic illnesses, addiction can be treated successfully, and NorthStar Regional can help.

Waste of time, money and sanity! Had two sessions before my “therapist” even saw my 10+ year old diagnosis, then felt UNCOMFORTABLE and referred me to someone else!! My second appt was him going through all the paperwork I filled out, with no talking for 30+ mins!! I feel WAY WORSE after going than before. Horrible experience.

I was a former patient when the practice was called northland counseling. I had a great experience there and really like my therapist but she left when the practice changed over to Northstar regional. Recently I contacted Northstar regional to try and get re-established with care there and wanted a therapist that could work with both my fiancé and I on some things. I found a therapist on their website that I thought fit our needs perfectly. I called and spoke with the receptionist and she told me we could get in the following week. I made it clear to her that my fiancé and I would be logging

Northstar Regional is not a place I would recommend. From the top down. The main problem with this company is that it is an old boys club; from the owners, CEO, kitchen staff, drivers, nursing staff, intake coordinators, and techs. While I realize that recovery is a “WE” program, this program lacks the true WE based on their nepotism.
They do not provide new clients with the basic text, Big Book, because they are an ”unnecessary expense,” however, they DO provide literature written by owner, Dr. Hal. Two books by him are given to each client. They are able to “check out” Big Books

NorthStar Regional was extremely helpful with my recovery. The counselors created a safe and respectful environment where most everyone in group was able to share and get well. I highly recommend it!

Not only did it take over 3 weeks to get my assessment back, she never sent it.. also the lady who did mine, Stephanie claimed i couldn’t get a copy of the full assessment.. turns out that was a bold faced lie. I had to jump through way too many hoops for the front office to finally get upper management to agree to let me pick it up. Do yourself a favor and find a real company to deal with such sensitive issues.

I have been to 4 decent inpatient treatment centers in my life, and have had bouts of some clean time over the years, but never in my entire life have I had an experience like this! This is hands down, the best treatment facility I have ever been to! I was challenged in ways that I never had been before, and experienced things I didn't think were possible. I would recommend this treatment center over any other places in the world. Better than all other past treatments combined!
