Physical Fitness was started in 2002 by Michael Leonard, Clinical Exercise Physiologist, after seeing a need for a more specialized approach to exercise. Michael graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. His career started at Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford, CT where he worked as an Exercise Physiologist in inpatient and outpatient physical therapy.

Mike's career then moved to the Hospital of St. Raphael's where he worked both as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist in cardiac, pulmonary and physical rehabilitation and as Director of their adult fitness program. Many of Mike's patients at physical therapy were not comfortable with continuing their fitness program in a large, noisy gym.

What is Physical Fitness LLC? Physical Fitness is a very unique Medical Fitness facility catering to a growing population that has more specific fitness needs to improve their health and regain control of their life. We can take the time to do a thorough health analysis, musculoskeletal screening, discuss your goals, consult with your physicians and create a custom plan to help you achieve the healthy life you have always envisioned.
After being diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and numerous fractures, I was resigned to the prospect of a drastically limited lifestyle. One physical therapist recommended Physical Fitness and thereby changed my life. Michael Leonard, Exercise Physiologist, and his staff, will help develop a goal oriented exercise prescription for you using a team approach, working with your physicians and physical therapists.
Conditions such as: osteoporosis, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, chronic pain, arthritis, and countless others can slow us down or stop us from participating in activities we enjoyed in the past or look forward to in the future. Fortunately, an exercise program comprised of resistance and aerobic exercise coupled with a healthy diet has been proven to prevent and even stop the negative conditions of aging.
Many of our clients are referred to us by physicians, physical therapists, or following treatment in a cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation center. Following these treatments, it is essential that one continue an exercise program to maintain and continue to build upon the fitness level achieved during rehabilitation.

The exercise physiologists are excellent. Matt has a wonderful rapport and great skills. He helps me strengthen my weak areas and helps me loosen up my muscles that are too tight. Worth it! Highly recommended.

Mike has been working with both my mother and father at various points over the last 5 years. He worked nothing short of a miracle with my mom as far as her strength and balance are concerned.
