Berks Bhakti Yoga strives to create a spiritual community in the Berks County area where we can recharge, reconnect, and rediscover ourselves through the practice of Bhakti Yoga, or yoga of the heart. Join us for a full program every week! What makes this celebration special is that it was arranged solely and wholly by a local Bhakti Vriksha group (Berks Bhakti Yoga), part of ISKCON Harrisburg.
My dear Arjuna, O winner of wealth, if you cannot fix your mind upon Me without deviation, then follow the regulated principles of bhakti-yoga In this way you will develop a desire to attain to Me. - Bhagavad Gita 12.9.

Krishna - this sound is transcendental. Krishna means the highest pleasure. But we do not know how to seek pleasure perfectly. With a materialistic concept of life, we are frustrated at every step in satisfying our pleasure because we have no information regarding the real level on which to have real pleasure.
The Bhagavad-Gita describes a variety of yoga practices. Among them are Karma-Yoga (the practice of conscious action), Jnana-Yoga (the study of philosophy and contemplation) and Hatha-Yoga (the practice of yoga-asanas and breathing exercises). The Gita ultimately prescribes Bhakti Yoga (the path of dedication and love); it is the culmination of these other yoga practices.
There are two types of mantra meditation, Japa and Kirtan. Japa is a quiet and personal meditation where one chants on beads. Kirtan, on the other hand, is the singing of mantras with others, often with musical instruments. Japa is counted on a japa mala, the sanskrit word for prayer beads. These beads are used to count the number of mantras chanted.
The Kali Santarna Upanishad says In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy the only means of deliverance is chanting of the holy name of the Lord. There is no other way. Therefore one must adopt the chanting of the holy name as the principal method of advancing in spiritual life. In the material concept of life we are busy in the matter of eating, sleeping, mating and defending, as if we were in the lower, animal stage.
