About six years ago a dinner conversation turned to the topic of "hand crafted" products. Tony had gone sunglass shopping a few days earlier and had come back empty handed. In his head was the memory of a vintage, hand crafted pair of Italian sunglasses from the 60's that had a certain weight, feeling, and style that he loved.
He'd lost the pair years before and said he'd been looking for a replacement ever since. Everyone at the table had a similar memory or reference. So Jeff said, "We should try and make a sunglass frame that captures that feeling - a modern take on those classic aesthetics." None of us had any real experience with sunglass design at the time, but once the idea was put out there it grabbed hold.

I purchased a set of Sutro Sunglasses Guerrero model several years ago. I have owned several pair of Ray Ban and other 'name' brand sunglasses in the past, and have liked a number of them. However, my go-to sunglasses are either the Sutro Gurerreros or my Ray Ban RB 3447 in pink and gold. Mostly the Sutros, though.

I have 3 pairs of Sutro's. (2) Guerrero sunglasses and (1) pair of the RFK prescription frames. Its so cool to support a local SF brand like this. With so many hyped out 'fashion' brands making cheap plastic lens junk with substandard hinges and parts at pennies on the dollar its nice to see a brand that cares about quality. You can buy a pair of junk suns like Prada etc. (Insert fashion brand here) with their plastic logo crazy glued to the side at well over 300/400 bucks a pair and then there's Sutro which stands far out from that crowd with high end quality parts! They are

I just bought a pair of ladies Sutro glasses and I love them. The lenses are amazing and the frames are super sturdy and fit very well. Most importantly, the shape is perfect -- modern classic. The price is worth it since you easily pay that much for massed produced, poor quality glasses with ubiquitous fashion house logos.

I found out about these glasses from the guys at Nomads in hayes valley. I've been shopping there for awhile so i kind of let them talk me into buying them. I wouldn't otherwise spend $200 for a pair of sunglasses!
But, I am super hyped on them. They are really strong and as good as those guys said. I've already sat on them once and they're fine I know they're an SF company so i thought i'd throw some support.
