Spectacles Of Union Square

I bought my first pair of glasses at Spectacles 10 years ago. In the interim, I have had my prescriptions filled at other various San Francisco opticians and optometrists office. Simply put, there is no place better to have your prescription glasses made. Kevin and his team are the most precise, high-quality, experienced team I have ever worked with. Prescriptions they fill are perfect, and the frames they sell are beautiful and unique. Shopping around is a waste of time! I won't go anywhere else from now on.

I have purchased frames and lenses here and also sent Kevin vintage frames several times to have lenses put in. He is skilled in working with vintage frames, which is difficult to find. Can't wait to go back in person and look at the (literal) eye candy. Highly recommend!

Two years ago I got my glasses from Spectacles. I had looked everywhere for cable temples and there I found the perfect cable temple frames. Last month, the right temple began to break and I brought them in. Danny tightened them up for free. I knew they probably needed to be welded, but hoped this temporary fix would last until I had time and money for a more permanent fix. Spectacles made my glasses in 2019. I needed the type of temples that curl around my ears and this was the only store I could find with an excellent selection. I love my glasses! With covid I am wearing bandanas and these have bent the temples and thrown the frames out of adjustment. I went in to the store and was greeted by Danny who quickly took my temperature. I explained that I had no money at the moment because I am awaiting my new atm card -- an exercise I went through due to fraudulent activity on my old card. There is a large selection of very cool frames in this shop. The customer service is exceptional. I chose and bought a frame that I tried on while wearing my Covid mask. When I got home and looked in the mirror without my mask the frames did not look good on my face. I thought I would just give it a shot and call Kevin and ask if I could exchange the frames for another pair. He said, "No problem, you have to be happy with your purchase." I was surprised with how easy everything was, and I was surprised that he agreed to do it.

Now I've been going the Spectacles for years and have always been thrilled with their selection and service. Definitely do not come here. The owner lied to me that in US there is no single focal Zeiss lens, then try to sell lens from his lab. I've been a customer of Spectacles of Union Square for more than six years now. What keeps me coming back is not only the unique selection of upscale designer eyewear, the precision at which this tidy boutique operates is consistently top notch.

I'm extremely detail-oriented and have been disappointed by other optical shops. The owner, Kevin Hershey, grinds all his lenses on-site. He is also a master at fitting your glasses. He makes quick minor adjustments and every pair fits perfectly. If they ever get out of whack, he and his staff are happy to help you get them aligned properly

The staff here are completely unhelpful and I was treated as if I was inconveniencing them. When I am about to spend $1000 on glasses I expect to have service. The attitude here was you buy what we have in stock or I cant be bothered with you. I will never shop here.

Returning for a 7 day holiday to the City I will always regard as home, I decided to check out this nicely reviewed optical store on Maiden Lane, not far from my hotel. I noted the owner hails from the Motor City so all the more reason to support a owner from my home town of Detroit.

This is my favorite eyeglass shop in San Francisco and Kevin the owner always goes the extra mile to make me happy. He knows what works with me and what does not and tells me right away yes or no. Kevin went so far as one time I bought a competitors frame and had a prescription put in it. It was awful and I could not explain why. He examined the lenses a found right away that the PD was off. He has pushed my limit on what I'm comfortable wearing. I always walk out with something I had no idea that I would wear and I always walk out happy. Over a decade ago I was looking for someone to replicate an ombre effect on a new pair Louis Vuitton sunglasses. I was referred to Spectacles by another eyewear shop and I was not disappointed- Spectacles nailed it. Needless to say I've been a customer ever since. I usually buy 1 or 2 new glasses annually. Even my best friend never comes to visit me without a trip to purchase a new pair of glasses from the shop.

Buyer be aware. This frame shop has some interesting and beautiful frames. The prices are top dollars. You'd think they'd have customer satisfaction a high priority, but once they have your money, they aren't particularly that interested in you.
When I spoke with the owner about how the frames sat on my cheek despite multiple adjustments, he offered only one remedy---applying nose pads at a cost of $50. No return option. hummm. What can I write, we've purchased 8 pair of glasses: 6 sunglasses and 2 pair of reading glasses. The service is attentive although not in your face.
