The Elmwood Playhouse theater complex consists of 4 buildings that include a 99-seat performing space, lobby and hospitality center, 3 rehearsal studios, dressing rooms, green room, multi function rooms, a large scenic shop and storage rooms for sets, lighting, costumes and props. Elmwood Community Playhouse provides a local, intimate setting for live theatre- a place to share the stories that connect our lives.
We believe that live theatre is a unique and essential component of society. We seek to provide opportunities for creative expression, to reflect the diverse voices of our community, to collaborate with other local organizations, and to engage our audience members now and into the future. Before 1947 we were evolving from many groups with names like the Curtain Callers, the 'Nyack Players' and the 'Camp Shanks Players'.

Services
Annual Fund donors play an important role in the life of Elmwood Playhouse, and your contributions tie directly to what you see on stage. Our artists make the costumes, build the sets, and hang the lights, but it is your generosity that pays for it. We are grateful that you believe that what we do is worthy of your financial support.
Elmwood Community Playhouse is a Non-Equity theater and cannot cast members of Actors Equity. Casting of actors in roles is done on the basis of acting skill and ability demonstrated during the audition process, as well as on the actor's appropriateness and suitability (physical, vocal, mental, emotional) for available roles.
You can change your life just by coming down to the theatre to play for a few hours. Our members all have special Elmwood stories, having worked and played here for decades. Lifelong friendships have been built, many have met their spouses here, and quite a few have become pro in theatre, film, and television by using what they've learned here.
Benefit performances at Elmwood are a proven means to generate funds for your organization in a meaningful and entertaining way! We normally mount 6 productions throughout the season. Most performances are open to the public, but with a benefit, we perform just for your group. You choose the show and date that works best for your organization.

3/18/21: Great community theater!!! I have been a member since 1991, and couldn't be more impressed with the caliber of artistry that happens in this 99-seat theater. While the pandemic has shut the doors for the past year, our group still functions as a community, gathering on zoom for monthly meetings, performing play readings on zoom, presenting "Porch Stories" (like The Moth) outdoors, planning for our future.
