Joe Obegi
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Davis, California (PSY 21603). Since 2009, I have worked for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Currently, I monitor suicide prevention programs and support suicide prevention efforts at 9 prisons in the Northern California Region.

During my career with the department, I have coordinated suicide prevention programs in a 400-bed inpatient psychiatric facility and outpatients settings, supervised inpatient and outpatient programs, delivered direct services, provided consultation on complex cases, and trained staff in suicide risk assessment and intervention.
Services
I have a part-time practice where I provide individual psychotherapy to adults. I address a wide range of issues: From depression and stress to relationship problems to concerns about drugs or alcohol. To best assist you, I use approaches informed by scientific research. In our initial meetings we will concentrate on getting to know your concerns and their history.
How common is recent denial of suicidal ideation among ideators, attempters, and suicide decedents? A literature review. General Hospital Psychiatry, 72, 92-95. Obegi, J. H. (2021). Disciplinary responsibility in prison. Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law 49(3). Your patient refuses a suicide risk assessment: Now what?
To schedule an appointment or just inquire about the clinical services I offer, please call-we can discuss the concerns you have, whether my services are a good match, and I'll be able to answer a few of your important questions. If I'm not available when you call, please leave me a phone message. I'll do my best to get back to you the same day and, if not, certainly within 24 hours.
