Services
Atlantic cod fried golden brown, Abel's hand-cut fries, jalapeo hush puppies and coleslaw. Grilled chicken tossed with penne pasta, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms in a creamy creole sauce and served with garlic toast. Grilled or blackened Salmon over sauted spinach with garlic, shallots and blistered tomatoes.

The location is so fantastic that it's tragic the low quality of food served here. The prices are low, but you get what you pay for. My wife got sick from spoiled coleslaw in her shrimp tacos, my burger was bad but maybe it's just me with the burger bun was like some kind of home made wonderbread bun where my finger goes through the bread ruining the burger with such thin bread. The steak sandwich my son had was covered in processed cheese. processed cheese says it all. I came into use the restroom since Mozart's next door was beyond capacity. I was told customers only. That's fair. I asked if I could just pay for something so I can use the restroom. I was told the cheapest thing was an $18 shirt. Upon checking the menu online, I can see that that was a lie. I would have gladly paid for $12 nachos to eat but nope..the cheapest thing was the shirt. Gotta keep people from not using the bathroom.
I can understand the policy. But lying and turning away a transaction to hold a principle? It deserves a Yelp review.

Bad costumer service they take 20 mins after u seat just to take u order and drinks are so expensive that they still have no shame to ask for tip and if u say no I want my change back they get all with a attitude and they don't even come back to ask u what else u need and they really racist they were acting like we weren't going to pay so after they brought our 1st drinks they brought the check right away what kinda costumer service is that I'm pretty sure I'm making more money then them and they don't even know it y'all need to work in a lot of things in this place

Visiting from San Diego, we found Abel's on an idyllic Sunday afternoon.
Although there was a wait for a table, Johnny, the BEST bartender/server EVER, found a couple of barstools and made room for us at the bar.
Johnny makes a GREAT host, and GREAT Bloody Mary! World class. Perfect blend of spices with other ingredients.
I had the Texas burger (YUM) and my husband had Abel's Tex-Mex twist on a Philly steak sandwich. "Absolutely delicious!"
The open air bar on the lake is a beautiful setting, the weather was perfect, multiple football games

I would really like to give Abel's their 5 stars which they probably deserve but the Restaurant sits at the bottom of a hill. This is not ok when you're bringing in a bus loaded with passengers. Shell passengers at that (Shell has a zero tolerance for unsafe practices). Cars on every side of the street so a bus would have to unload in the street.
Luckily for me this time Heaven was on our side by allowing us to get our buses up from the hill. Going down the driveway was just as challenge because we had to turn just right to make the turn to drop the passengers off at the door.

First time here... and yeah the food was not good at all. Ordered chips and queso, chips were stale and queso was clumpy. I had the chicken sandwich and it was bland. A person of color definitely did not make the chicken, because if they did it would have been seasoned. Best part of the whole thing was the Dos xx.

Have no idea what the food is like because I didn't get to try it. Came in with a few friends and sat for about 15 to 20 minutes, after waiting I had told the hostess that we hadn't been helped yet, she then said someone would be out shortly to help us. Waited there about another 10 minutes and still no help. They were not understaffed by any means, in fact there were people standing around doing nothing which was why I was so irritated. I had read the bad reviews and decided to dismiss them and try this place for myself, wouldn't recommend.

I've been coming to Abel's for years but hadn't been back since the start of the pandemic. I went tonight and I am so happy I did! Abel's will be in my routine rotation from here on for dinner and drinks.
They have always had a strong kitchen for an affordable bar and grill - so much better than the place next door. Tonight, I was taken care of very well by two affable gents at the back bar, Stuart and Eric. Stuart told me I should try the blackened redfish. He shared it was a new rotating special. I was amazed how perfectly it was seasoned and cooked. One of the best redfish

Sweet waitress. She was clearly slammed. That's not the issue here. Sweet potato fries were delivered to the wrong table by someone running food. Pancakes were burnt. Both out of her control. She got them both taken off rightfully so.
The BIG ISSUE was ours and two different tables cards were wrong up wrong, mixed up, and delivered to wrong tables. Our credit card went to someone else's table and we found it ourselves. Still not mad at that sweet girl at all for the record. Our tab came out cheaper and we signed it and got out. Forgive us of our sins. What was EXTREMELY CONCERNING is

Absolutely amazing Experience! Great Food, Great Views & Rob my waiter has been fantastic the couple of times I've come so far!
I have to say that I almost didn't go because of the reviews here, but my experience was totally different. And it was absolutely a 5 star experience.
Overall the Views are objectively great right off the water, the food has been very good both times - I had a really good Salmon dish most recently. But more importantly the waiter Rob has been incredibly kind & attentive - even offering Iced Tea "to go" both times.
I'd recommend you judge

Each time I come here I'm more and more disappointed. I used to come here frequently when I was new to Austin but I think my standards were lower and theirs were higher. First of all, it's a pain to get parking around here. Once you're parked, you're better off going to one of the neighboring establishments. The food is so mediocre and overpriced, and I've nearly tried it all. It's not bad, but I'd say it's on par with many chain "bar and grill" type of restaurants. The view of the lake is the only asset that draws crowds.

I came here for my graduation dinner (NOT on graduation weekend - so it wasn't that busy) and it was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. It was embarrassing for me because I picked the place. Thank God that my friends and I are pretty chill people, so we just rolled with it.
However the service was abysmal, the Mexican Martini was not drinkable, bathrooms were filthy and there was not a manager in sight the whole night. Well, at least not until we left and saw them all chatting on an unoccupied patio to the side of the restaurant. I guess it was socialization

I don't know why the 2.5 star average here, we have been to this place three times now and it has been great all three. Service has been fantastic all three times, drinks have been good and food has been fine. What more could one want than sitting on the patio enjoying a cold one here with friends/family, while taking in the lake views?
