STOX restaurant started off as a 20-seat pie, hamburger, and sandwich shop on the other side of town. Then we found home here in Downey, where we were established in 1962 over 50 years ago and is now a landmark of Downey. With our vintage feel and impeccable all-day breakfast, Stoxs quickly became a favorite restaurant stop because of the home-cooked food and fabulous pies.
Since those simpler times, the restaurant has not strayed one step away from our traditional ways. Patrons of STOX have passed down their tradition of having great food and service to their next generations.

I understand the climate and the effect of the pandemic but come on. The food I received was cold, the prices were too expensive for what I received which was a breakfast sandwich, biscuits and gravy, and orange juice. Also, a cup of Oj was $8, mind you the cup size was quite small and I had to ask for refills, which cost extra.
I think this place has potential in doing better however,it can update its aesthetics with the time a bit.
I do want to appreciate the service though, thank you for good service.

Terrible, we saw a roach roaming on top of a pie in display case near register. When we told the employee, all she did was shuuu it away and left pie there. Furthermore, she had an attitude when we asked for a refund for a mini pie and muffin we had ordered to go. I looked around for the restaurant letter grade, no where to be found,. All this happen after we had eaten our breakfast, I felt sick to my stomach!! This was 1/27/22

I went to have breakfast here on a Saturday at the bar because the dining room was full of people, usually a good sign. The bar area is very cozy and the atmosphere feels a little dated however I really enjoyed it. I ordered a breakfast panini and my friend ordered a fresh blueberry muffin. The server recommended I get the sandwich a little crispier which was very nice of her to recommend. The Breakfast panini was probably one of the best I've ever had and the muffin was very delicious with large blueberries. First time here and will definitely be a return customer! I love it here! The ambiance is literally like a home town local dinner. Legit like Luke’s dinner from the show Gilmore Girls. The staff are super nice and attentive. The food was delicious 🤤. Had the Belgian waffle breakfast combo. My husband had the Corn beef hash and O’Brien potatoes and he loved it! This will be my husband’s and I new Sunday morning breakfast spot. Definitely check it out.

2 stars because a woman working at Stox would eat from garnish tray by the register with her fingers. Then wiped fingers on a cloth used to clean tables and front area. Staff often removed masks when behind the counter and put on mask to greet, serve or cook.
Throwback atmosphere, surprisingly expensive, friendly service, good food that's fresh, clean, diner/bar combo that also sells lottery. The pies are made there and looked delicious.

The worst chicken fried steak and eggs and service ever the steak had no crispy breading and the meat tasted very freezer burned i was just there today at 8:30 am. At check out the lady didnt ask how our meal was and loud partiers from Kaiser drinking this place use to be so good. Its such a shame to see a once good restaurant go so so bad. If i could give no stars i would. People please dont go here and eat you will also be disapointed.

First time checking this local spot out. What a pleasant surprise. We were sat in the bare area and Kevin was great!. Served our cold draught bees and are food. All while dealing with a crazy rush in the bar area. The food was super enjoyable. I had the RBO sandwich with potato salad and the hubby had a French dip with fries! Both items did not disappoint! I had the Strawberry Waffle with Whipped Cream for breakfast last week since it was on the take-out menu, but I'm so interested in trying the other specials like the meatloaf and ribs. Everything looked so delicious!
My boyfriend and I just went back tonight for an early dinner, and we had the Monday Night Special of Chicken Pot Pie & Honey Fried Chicken. So good. I could not finish half of my meal, but my boyfriend ate the whole thing. He had a massive food coma afterwards, but he said it was some of the best fried chicken he ever had.

Got the Strawberry Waffle and it was delicious. I usually am not crazy about whipped cream, but I loved the whipped cream here! My dad got a breakfast plate and he usually is very hard to impress when it comes to food, but he loved it, especially the bacon. He said it was real and didn't have to send it back to be cooked the way he wanted it to be. Thanks Stox!

Five years ago, my husband took my father here to ask him for permission to marry me. This weekend I finally got to go. I had planned to go last year prior to Covid, and then everything shut down and Stox almost went out of business. They had a GoFund me page, which raised almost $30,000 which I think kept them afloat because here I am, finally able to try this iconic, classic diner Downey restaurant!
We were immediately seated and greeted by our waiter. We ordered 2 coffees and an orange juice for our son. The waiter was very kind to think of a straw for our son.

This is our first time back here since COVID, and these guys are STILL A-mazing! We came all the way from Pasadena just for their brunch special. I was pleasantly surprised that they added their chilaquiles brunch menu. So. Damn. Good. TOTALLY worth the drive! I didn't think to do the review here until AFTER I finished eating, so, next time I bring my wife for another brunch I'll take a before pic

I absolutely love this restaurant food. Yes, the location is a "bit" outdated... but the food is incredible. I love the waffles. The blueberry topping is my favorite, but the apples are tasty too. They also make their own
Whipped cream which is fantastic. Their sandwiches are good too. Their cakes are fantastically tasty. They recently noted that they updated the restrooms, but I have not seen them yet. Due to covid, I have been picking up food and eating it in my car, but it is still tasty.

I was hoping to love the food here as much as I love the old school vibe and great service. The food... well I can make much better at home. The juevos rancheros was incredibly mediocre, however, I loved the French fries (and I am a fries snob). I don't think I'd try it again unless I wanted fries with a big smile.
