As Washington state moves through the pandemic recovery phases this summer, we expect to slowly increase on-site services in our wonderful new clinic space at 6th and Lenora. We are proceeding cautiously because we care about the health of our clients, team members, and the community. Currently, most of our services are still delivered remotely via telehealth.

In the event you do not have a phone or computer access, please call or check-in with reception; we can provide a private space in the clinic to connect with your provider. If you are in crisis after 5pm, please call crisis connections at 206-461-3222. Dear SCS Friends, Fall is around the corner as we move into September - a season that represents abundance, prosperity, and wealth; September is also the annual National Recovery Month.
Services
Founded in 1969, Seattle Counseling Service is proud to be the oldest LGBTQ-focused community mental health agency in the world. Started as part of the Dorian Society in Seattle, SCS later expanded to become an independent organization in 1969. We began in a rented house with one telephone and several volunteers who were ready to answer the phone, talk with people, dropped by, and offered counsel and support.
Project NEON (Needle and Sex Education Outreach Network) is an HIV-prevention program for gay, bi and trans men affected by crystal methamphetamine. NEON's philosophies are rooted in the concept of harm reduction and the belief that all individuals are capable of making life-enhancing decisions, regardless of their drug use.
Project PEER (Peer Education Enrichment Resource) is a peer-led outreach and non-medical case management program aimed to help individuals who are at high risk for acquiring HIV. People who are at high risk for acquiring HIV are individuals who partake in activities such as intravenous drug use, multiple anonymous sex partners, condomless anal or vaginal intercourse, and being in a serodiscordant (mixed HIV status) relationship.
We can provide speakers and trainers for your staff, club, community group, school, business, or other organization. Members of our staff are experts in issues relating to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and can also speak generally or specifically about mental health and/or chemical dependency.
Through our two HIV prevention programs, Project Neon & Project Peer, we are able to provide safe sex supplies and safe sex kits. Stop by and pick up what you need. We are very honored to host local community organizations providing free, confidential testing. POCAAN offers free HIV testing to SCS clients and the greater community, every Wednesday from 2PM to 4PM.

I submitted an application WEEKS ago and accidentally missed a phone call from them. They sent me an email which I responded to and left them a voicemail. Plus I called them every day of the week and they failed to respond in any way, shape, or form.
Do NOT waste your time with them or they will constantly waste yours.

I have years of history with Seattle counseling services, and none of them were wasted. Good people. Now I think of Count, who was at the desk when I walked in exhausted and discouraged. I even needed help with the check in device, and he gave his help as cheerfully and kindly as he had greeted me. He's got history there. I am grateful and glad. I'm a little mobility impaired and this new building is not near a bus line that goes directly there from Capitol Hill. It created a problem for me. I had gotten a counselor that wasn't a good fit, and it had taken a long time for them to match me up with

Misleading info on website. If you don't actually take insurence thats LISTED on your website please remove it so no one else gets misleaded. Only reason why I even sent an application honestly.
Edit: like I said I only sent an application because my insurence was listed. My insurence was listed in my application obviously. The lady called me back bringing up my old insurence? Like uh did you even look at my application? Then once I confirmed I didn't have that she asked me how much money I made. Which lol I don't know, doesn't matter I have insurence you guys take. She told me "we aren't taking

Everyone I've dealt with is warm, accepting and helpful. I've had two therapists in the time I've been going there and I'm really grateful for the supportive environment. They've really helped me explore who I am.

The people here are nice and well meaning, but it's impossible to get an appointment. They've been sitting on a lack of a reminder service by phone or email for ages now and it feels like the front desk doesn't work with the therapists to coordinate appointments.I played phone tag with my therapist for 4 months before finally getting her. When I went in for an emergency appointment as well and had even said ahead of time how serious the topic was they paired me with someone who (again, was well meaning but) inexperienced and made a crisis far worse.
The help I have gotten there when paired with

Complete waste of time, if you read a bad review about the place it's because they treat everybody who comes in there like an animal and with the assumption that you're too incompetent to make any decisions for yourself; public healthcare/medicaid it has to be this way because of the quality of people they have to deal with. I recommend just borrowing the $100 dollars from a friend and going to a REAL psychiatrist if you need to get your medications unless you have 2 or 3 months to waste. The truth is sad and ugly.

I felt unimportant and a bit discriminated against..
I went in over a month ago to start seeing someone...it took them two weeks just to get me in for my basic intake, then I had to call THEM another nearly 2 weeks later to find out if I had been assigned to anyone, then the woman informs me that not only will it be yet ANOTHER 2 weeks before she can see me, but she will only be able to see me for 45 min every 2 weeks! It had already been well over a MONTH since I had gone in there asking for help! I felt that I had been placed at the bottom of the pile because I'm just looking for help with depression

Not a big fan. I've went through two therapist and I'm finding them to be the same. They have HUGE patient loads and turn over appointments one after the other like a mill. The therapist sat down with me for our session not engaged nor having put any thought into the development of our conversation from the previous meeting. When I tried to approach a topic I would get very general therapist lines like, "oh how did that make you feel?" I felt like we were going no where and I was just getting more frustrated with the experience. I'll seek therapy elsewhere.

Good place to go for therapy. However, beginning August 1st they are barring the entrance of emotional companion animals, which I think is HIGHLY inappropriate for a therapy center, particularly one with the history, clientele, and claims of SCS.
