Sorry but just downgraded your rating. Food still tastes good but I ordered The Boatman and it literally had ONE medium scallop and three medium shrimp. For $32.00 (not to mention 4$ for small box of plain white rice) this is absurd and price gouging. You can drive over to Sprouts and get Large scallops and Shrimp for around 10-12$ a pound. The rest of the veggies are cheap. So no matter how good, I'm not paying these prices and will search for a bottled sauce or a sauce recipe and make it myself. I wanted to support my local restaurants during the pandemic but inflating prices this

The service was great, but the sushi was okay. The sushi was a little over priced and poor quality - mainly the rice. The rice seemed undercooked, which ruined the rolls.
The appetizers were delicious. I highly recommend getting the yin yang wonton appetizer. So delicious!
I was also not a fan of the seating. The table for two was about a foot apart from the table next to us. I felt like I was dining with them, but apart just enough for it to feel more awkward.

Updated review from my 2 years ago visit:
This review goes to the business owner and representatives from this restaurant to supervise and pay more attention to your staff and service, yesterday my friends and I were exited to finally go back and dine in at this restaurant again since it's been to go only due COVID, I'm a local costumer living in the highlands that I've been coming to this restaurant for 4 years.
Unfortunately this place has become and awful costumer service establishment now, overpriced and overall careless about everything in general.

Wow! Literally wow the best Thai food I've ever eaten hands down. I ordered through door dash and my food still arrived fresh & hot. I ordered chicken massaman heat level spicy comes with white rice. The heat is exactly what it says spicy but not overly hot your nose may run a tiny bit. Omg the sauce is so darn flavorful and fresh. The chicken was actually tender under all that warm delicious gravy. The only thing I wish was that I knew this dish already came with white rice. I ordered a side rice and it already came with a perfect amount.

Decided to do takeout Thai food & choose this place. I ordered the Veggie Masaman & the Hawaiian sushi roll. The curry had good flavor & a decent portion, but the sushi was not very good. The Hawaiian roll didn't even come with pineapple, so it was was just shrimp tempura & avocado. It was also very small, only 6 pieces & was $13. The food is definitely overpriced for what you get.
I hate to give a bad review, but I hope this creates some change in food quality & quantity.
We also had planned to order on door dash & have it delivered, but the dishes were $2-3

I ordered take out last Saturday with a pick up at 5:25. I arrived at 5:25 and I was told my order would take 15 more minutes. After 20 minutes they said another 5 minutes. Then the woman said "it's because you ordered a lot of food". In front of everyone who was standing outside. Oooookay.
So then after 25 minutes she comes out with a bag of food and I was about to check it and she said "you don't need to check it, it's all there." I took it home and guess what? 3 of the 5 main courses was missing! SO I called the restaurant and the woman had the gall to say

This is such a cute and quaint restaurant! They are located near other businesses with shared parking in a lot. I tried the tom yum shrimp soup appetizer and the golden vegetable dish. Both were delightful. The veggies were extremely fresh. For dessert I tried the mango sticky rice. It was very flavorful, but I was expecting a bit more rice. I definitely plan to come back, they have an extensive variety of different dishes.

Love this place-
The vege-Masaman is a can't miss
Great if u need good Thai in an absolutely delightful and charming locale.
Perfect for a date-night or romantic wife-time :)
Not a bad item on their menu .
Veggie lovers- Get on the Siam Tofu- Easily wins gold over ALL other Thai restaurant 'tofu' dishes.
Please note their Spicy Seafood soup is "white people" spicy Delicious as ever though :)

This place is so cute and the decor was amazing however the food and service do not match the greatness! Mali Restaurant is located in the Virgina Highlands and I discovered it trying to find a good thai restaurant to take my mom. One plus was that there was free ample parking bc it was a week day. When we got inside, we waited a decent time waiting to be seated. One of the chefs had to call for a server and still it took a while before we were acknowledged by someone to help seat us. We then were guided to our table. The restaurant seemed to be a little claustrophobic like they split what couldve

Green curry which was only available with shrimp. Perfect spice level. Not big enough to share.
We had potstickers and a rainbow roll as appetizers. The sushi was my least favorite here but it was still good. Presentation was really good all around which I appreciate.
Service was okay. We were chatty and she was not- almost a little annoyed by our questions.

I recently visited Mali for the first time for a birthday celebration. Prior to the invite I was not at all familiar with this gem of a Restaurant!!
There are so many wonderful things about this restaurant; from the quaint resident location, the home converted style, decor and ambiance.
The food was absolutely fantastic! Everyone enjoyed their meals.
I must make special mention to the spectacular service!!
We had over 30 guest (including young children). I was concerned that having 1 server would mean we would have a longer than usual wait time.
However, the sweet and patient waitress

I finally found Thai food that is worthy of its title! There are a few items that I order to gauge this. One of them is a curry dish, so I ordered the Phanaeng curry. This was for lunch, so the serving was perfect. Very spicy (I ordered that way) and the chicken was flavorful. The sauce was silky and a a true curry dish. The Thai Basil balanced out the flavors perfectly.
I will be back to explore the rest of the menu. Side note: this a sushi house too!

Could get loud and noisy during rush hours. The seating inside is not comfortable.
They have a small sushi bar right at the entrance of the restaurant.
The service was slow, given the fact that i dined in on a saturday night. The server didnt see us again after the initial order.
The food was good but not the best i have had. We tried pad thai, Pik king, Thai iced tea. The rice portion that comes along with entree is very limited.
Overall an OK place but not the best thai restaurant. Ofcourse the price is on the high side.
