When you chose to train at Bayside Pilates, you make a commitment and so do we. Your personal wellness goals become ours and we work along with you tirelessly to help you reach your target and beyond. Anyone new to Bayside Pilates, even with previous Pilates experience, begins with a minimum of three individual sessions.
When training individually with a Certified Instructor, you have the complete Pilates system available for your benefit, practiced at your ideal pace. This affords you the opportunity to address your specific needs with the careful guidance of a skilled practitioner.

Home practice is the key to fully integrating Pilates into your way of life. Imagine that no matter where you are, no matter what happens, you have tools at your disposal to keep yourself on track and out of painful physical emergencies. The Start Strong Home Practice Program is a daily home practice program, developed over the course of several years by our studio owner and master instructor, Faye Stevenson.
MELT employs the use of gentle tools for the goals of fascial tissue remodeling, pain relief, and performance improvement. The ultimate goal of MELT is to improve your body's ability to restore balance and repair itself, which can create remarkable, lasting changes. MELT offers natural pain relief, allowing you to address the true cause of chronic pain, not just mask the symptoms.
Faye Stevenson, the owner of the studio, has been a student of the system for close to two decades. She has spent almost two decades learning about the function of the human body and earned two certifications in Pilates. Her first was in 2001 with Turning Point Studios. She earned her second, much more comprehensive certification in 2006, after studying directly with Joseph Pilates' protege and immediate successor, Romana Kryzanowska.

I have been recovering from a hip flexor injury myself and started seeing Faye about 2 months ago. It has made a huge difference in my recovery. I am able to walk up stairs without pain, bend over and get in and out of my car so much more comfortably. She has given me livable, doable exercises that I can continue at home. Faye is the true Professional Pilates instructor - she knows every detail of the body and can change the power of your exercise with just a small adjustment. Her studio is like her personality - warm and inviting. She helped me recover from a broken ankle and actually gave me workouts while in my cast. Faye's Pilates classes helped me drop the 60 pounds of baby weight, but that's not even the best part. She helped me gain back FUNCTION! I never did Pilates prior to pregnancy. But I had a tough labor and delivery that left me weakened and unable to move much or carry weight. Now I have no trouble with my abdomen or back muscles while getting in or out of bed, the car, bending down, or picking up my kiddo. Faye teaches with warmth, compassion, humor and smarts. I am so grateful to have found Faye and Bayside Pilates! I have been with Bayside Pilates since I was 4 months postpartum. I had never done Pilates of any kind before, and was determined to regain the use of my core after a long pregnancy and difficult labor. I had never done Pilates before my sessions with Faye and I have to say it was absolutely amazing. I worked with her for 6 months, three times a week and the results were more than I could have hoped for. She has an easygoing sense about her but will also keep you motivated and working hard. I have been taking classes with Faye since last September. I highly recommend working with her. She creates an inspiring and friendly environment in the communal workouts, and her eye for technique and alignment is excellent. I live in Michigan but, whenever I’m visiting Faye in Oakland, I always enjoy my workouts in her studio. It’s a lovely space and the use of the equipment lends to a more vigorous and effective workout. The other people in class are always friendly and welcoming which is great since I'm not a regular. Faye is extremely knowledgeable and was able to give me some advice over the telephone to help me heal when I fractured my hip last spring. Her help has proved integral to my recovery process. If I lived in Oakland, I'd be at Bayside Pilates every day!

I was referred to Bayside Pilates by a friend to whom I am now forever indebted. I had an injury to my ankle, knee and lower back. I was at the point where the injury was mostly healed but all of the surrounding muscles lost their strength and were not working properly due to over-compensation and in the case of my abs, inactivity. I came to Faye suffering from severe sciatica. I couldn't walk more than a half a block without severe pain in my lower back.

I joined Faye's studio as a total beginner, to gain an introduction to Pilates. Faye is a wonderful teacher! She is patient and kind, extremely knowledgeable and articulate. I spent 6 months working with Faye and I can honestly say, it was time and money well spent. We worked together 3 days a week and wow, did it help me. I sit at a desk all day and I needed to spend time working on my flexibility and strengthening my core. I never expected to work so hard when I started but after each session, I felt better, my head was clear and I was beginning to notice differences in my posture and my overall outlook on life and my body.

Bayside Pilates is awesome. Faye is incredibly knowledgeable about the body and also is incredibly warm and funny. My sessions with her are hard work, but they fly by.
