I have been working for over 30 years as a clinical psychologist with children, adults and families. Over this period, I have developed expertise as an individual and couples psychotherapist, forensic child custody evaluator, as well as a parent coordinator and educator for divorcing families. Furthermore, I have been involved in training judges, attorneys, physicians and school personnel about the effect of divorce and child custody disputes.
Additionally, I work as a family specialist for families who are engaged in a collaborative divorce, and serve on the Board of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. I also provide psychotherapy for clients who live all over the world which has allowed me to develop expertise in working virtually as well deepened my appreciation for cultural differences.

Services
I have had experience working with a wide array of individuals, couples and families since I began my doctoral program in clinical psychology over thirty years ago. Having worked in a variety of settings including a child guidance clinic and an adolescent inpatient unit I have developed an expertise in dealing with teenagers and their parents during this complicated phase of their lives.
Collaborative divorce is a process in which separating couples and their children have the opportunity to transition to the next phase of their lives in a peaceful and cooperative manner. To that end, a team of professionals is assembled that includes an attorney for each client and assistance from mental health practitioners and a neutral financial professional.
As someone who has spent my career focusing on the needs of families, I am committed to the idea that the legal system should afford those who are in conflict a fair and just way to resolve differences, when other options are not feasible. To that end, I received specialized training in Forensic Child Custody Evaluations and have been doing this work as a court appointed evaluator for over fifteen years.

I have had the pleasure of referring clients to Meg Sussman for assistance in navigating difficult family issues. Whether it be for individual or family therapy, supervised visitation or crafting a parenting plan that is workable for the whole family, Dr. Sussman is a compassionate and empathetic professional. I have been fortunate to have her as a resource for clients in my law practice.
