Hi, I'm Dr. Payet, and I've been a Charlotte dentist ever since 1998. I moved here after undergrad (Class of '94) and dental school at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (Class of '98). While not a native Tar Heel, I have deep roots in the state: my mother grew up in Albemarle, my dad went to Chapel Hill, and most of my family is in North Carolina.

I have not been to a dentist in approx. 5 yrs. because of my experiences in the past. I was petrified just making an appointment because I needed a lot of work done, and did not want to know the results. The moment I stepped into Smiles by Payet, I felt a calm come over me. The receptionist was very cordial and from the moment I sat in the chair, I was not afraid anymore. The dental assistants were so friendly & explained all the details of my exam. Very Clean office and very friendly staff!!
This was my first visit to the dentist. I got an implant done couple of years back(by another doctor outside US) and the crown from the implant came off over the weekend while flossing. Went to the dentist Monday morning. .
Dr Charles explained me so well what is the issue with the crown and implant. He answered all our questions, showed us the xray so that we are informed. He recemented the crown as needed and also suggested few things which can be done in future for the implant.
Very good experience, Highly recommend this dentist.

I hate going to the dentist but this team makes it so amazing I get excited to go now. From walking in and the receptionist knowing your name and greeting you with a big smile, to Dr Payet noticing I have an engagement ring on that wasn’t there the last visit and him congratulating me and asking about wedding planning to Michelle the dental hygienist who made my worst nightmare (people poking around in my mouth) not only bearable but verging on fun. Everyone is so communicative, they explain what they are doing any why they are doing it, they gave warning when it might get a little uncomfortable

I went in interested in the Nightlase procedure and after an examination and consultation Dr Payet recommended an oral appliance as a better option for me. His office worked with me to proceed with Medicare and my insurance company. Dr Payet and his office were professional, courteous and very helpful. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone needing dental care.

When I moved to Charlotte 2 years ago I was looking for a dentist and I finally came across Dr. Payet! I’m so happy to have come across his office. He has blessed my teeth in the most professional and caring way possible. He also remembers little details about you, just like everyone in the office! I can’t say enough about this office; the staff as well as Dr.P. Within a day they got me in as I had two teeth that had fallen out. And, in addition to that I have a horrible phobia when it comes to dentistry. The front desk young lady was so caring upon my first call. She asked about my issues and immediately asked could I come the next day. That alone made me feel comfortable as though everyone is taken on a case by case basis. I just went for a regular cleaning and wanted a second opinion on a few fillings that I needed done. They were very professional and did a great job. It turned out that the previous dentist I saw had overestimated the fillings that I needed. The estimate Payet gave me was half the price. They answered all the questions that I had and everything made perfect sense. They are very trustworthy.

I had been coming here for over 8 years until I found problems with the 2 crowns that were put in about 6 years ago and one that was less than 5 years.
The first crown cracked into several pieces and fell off eventually. I consulted with Doctor Payet and he said my tooth was too small that It needed to be replaced with a gold crown so it will last longer. I asked the doctor why he didn't recommend it the first time to use gold instead of the other one. Now I have to pay a lot out of my pocket especially now I lost my work insurance and replaced it with my own insurance. I asked them if they

Very unhappy with their service. Went in for a consultation about a year ago to see if I needed a night guard because I recently noticed I grind my teeth sometimes. He said a night guard may help so he went ahead and made my night guard for $700. A few months into wearing my night guard I noticed that my bite was really off. I switched back to wearing my old retainer and I couldn't even put it in, it hurt so bad. Obviously the night guard wasn't made correctly. I then got caught up with life and finally had a chance to recently go back in to get this problem fixed since I had a $700 night

This dentist is a nightmare. Not only was I not happy with the result, the billing was a nightmare. After paying nearly $2,000 out of pocket and fighting for months with insurance companies because they improperly filled out my insurance paperwork they threatened me with collections over $108 after they had received thousands. The insurance was supposed to pay half and I ended up paying about 60% instead because of scheming insurance companies and failures on Payet to properly fill out the paperwork. I also had my credit card information stolen after giving them my payment information electronically

As far as dentists go, these guys are good (meaning I hate going to the dentist. Any dentist) What I appreciate about these guys is their care, procedures, equipment and non pushy approach. Having said that though, dentists are in the field of "perfection" so most recommend doing things to your teeth to achieve that. I myself prefer the look of a somewhat original smile, (a crooked tooth here and there does not make me think one needs braces!) I recently moved to Charlotte and had to find a new dentist which was difficult for me because I've been a lifelong patient of my former dentist (out of state). The office is immaculately clean and the dentist's office is in a really nice building. The signage is a little hard to find but just head to the office building address # and walk in the front door.
