Inspired by Izzy Gomez, founded by famed restaurateur Sam DuVall, Izzy's is one of San Francisco's oldest and best kept secrets. The original Izzy's was a Barbary Coast saloon defying Prohibition and known for its thick steaks, colorful patrons and bootlegging lore. An avid history buff, and serial restaurateur, Sam re-imagined Izzy's in 1987, resurrecting Gomez's legendary establishment. The appetizers was delicious, but the main meal Prime Rib, loaded potatoes, Brussel sprouts was just good, however, I was expecting better being that it is a popular name steak & chop restaurant. Also, I understand being that we are in a COVID times, I felt the service was a bit slow, even though we were told the were not affected with staff shortage. We were a party of 5 but took forever to get cocktails, twice we ordered and both times it took forever. Water service was bad as well and just checking up on us to see if everything was OK and if we needed anything was just not happening. The waitress

We recently went back here just before the holidays and we were pleasantly surprised. They remodeled and it looks lovely! Seems brighter & more open. Very clean. The food is the best it's been since I've been a customer here. Our service was great and high quality! Definitely recommend them for a date night, special occasion or just because!

Regardless of what type of steak you get, (if you get a steak, that is) try it blackened. The blackened filet (medium rare) here might be one of my favorite cuts of meat of all-time and the creamed spinach also ranks as some of the best I've ever tried. I used to come here often before covid and I'm happy to say the quality of the food and service have stood the test of time.

We were celebrating my Parent's anniversary and this was going to be the first dinner out together since the start of the pandemic. My parents requested Izzy's and it was marvelous! We had the Drunken Prawns (you will want every bit of that sauce!), crispy calamari and tried everything steak wise from Filet, NY Strip to Skirt Steak. It was divine. Servings are generous, so leftovers of the yummy sides are likely.

I am a local, yet I had failed to go to Izzy's until today. I am so sorry that I've missed so much for so long!
The location is very secluded and not much to look at from the outside, but once you enter, it has a good vibe and cozy atmosphere. I was there for a private dinner party and we had a whole room to ourselves, which was great. Our server was Alberto and he has been one of the best servers I've had in a long time, very attentive and came to ask how we were doing during the whole event and that almost 4 hours. Right before the pandemic hit, we moved to the East Bay. With those two events, it had been a while since we dined at Izzy's. It use to be our favorite steakhouse. This is our last weekend in CA and wanted to eat at Izzy's one last time for nostalgic reasons. I'm only taking one star off from my original review, because the prime rib and au poivre sauce were still on point and the service was impeccable. All the way from the bus boys to the manager.

I made a reservation on Open Table and noted we are celebrating my husband's birthday. When we arrived, we were seated in an area with great lighting. In the background, we heard singing for someone else's birthday.
I checked in on Yelp to get 50% off a lunch appetizer (requires an order of 2 entrees). I showed the deal to our server but a few minutes later, the manager asked to see the Yelp deal because he wasn't aware of it. No big deal, but you would think that's something the manager should know.

Where do I start? I've been wanting to try Izzy's forever. I should have waited longer. I got the NY steak. It had zero taste to it. Probably one of the worst steaks I've ever had. The Brussels sprouts were burned. My Fiancée got the salmon. She said it was awful she also got the mushrooms and said they had no flavor. For the prices this places charges, it is really disappointing that the food can taste this bad.

The service is always impeccable though the apples are gone now for obvious reasons and the place is always spotless. In fact it is possible they painted and it was brighter than we recall.
I always enjoy the steak here. My wife is not so big on steaks and has tried the ribs three times. It had been awhile and unfotunately they disappointed. Stick to the steak. The calamari was mediocre too. I was able to crisp most of that up at home the next day. I tried to soften up the ribs but to no avail

Great Steaks!
It has been a while since we've dined at Izzy's and we wanted to try something different. We did not go wrong.
The food was delicious. Steaks were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Brussel Sprouts were delicious and the prime rib was juicy and tasted perfect.
The staff was friendly and attentive. They took very good care of our table and ensured we had full glasses of water and refills.
We sat outside 1) it was a beautiful day and with San Carlos airport the kids enjoyed watching the planes takeoff and 2) it was pretty darn cold inside the restaurant.
In summary
It has been a while since we've dined at Izzy's and we wanted to try something different. We did not go wrong.

I've always seen the sign for this place from the freeway and always wanted to check it out. Today we had plans that we canceled and decided to eat close to gfs house. Izzys came to mind and we had made reservations 30 minutes in advance. We arrive at 3:45pm to an empty outside seating area, this doesn't look good.. why is it empty? Had dinner out - outside of course - at Izzys last evening and had a lovely time. The outdoor area is really pretty and purposeful - not thrown together like so many places. Made it feel special. Also they have the upper portion closed to buffer the wind but the lower is open for air flow. And they have heaters and blankets if you need them.

Ordered 5 takeout meals from Izzy's for my cousin's birthday and it was amazing! We've previously had Izzy's in SF a few years ago and loved it, but was very hesitant about the takeout steaks and if it would still be good. We were very pleasantly surprised that it was just as good as when we first had it! (Just without the fancy plating)
I pre-ordered on DoorDash for Pickup at 5:00pm on a Saturday and it was ready by 4:30pm. The staff was friendly and wearing masks at the front. Very easy pickup!

I came for thanksgiving dinner but the person I was supposed to be meeting ended up getting held up with a previous engagement so I ate dinner solo. The service was fine on my end, I've seen complaints in other reviews but no complaints from my experience. I thought the setup for outdoor dining was great. I haven't been eating out much since the pandemic started but the spacing and the available hand sanitizer was great.
My major complaint is that the restaurant needs to update their time slots on OpenTable. The kitchen closed at 6:00 PM but the site allowed me to make a 6:00 PM reservation

I met up with a friend from SF and this was the halfway meeting spot. We were in the mood for steak and this was on the radar.

Came in from the hustle of everyday covid life, to Izzy's which is having outdoor service with heat lamps. I do have to say they are trying very hard to make life like it once was. Out door dinner tonight wasn't bad at all. Not too much of a breeze. And when it got colder the heat lamps sure hit the spot. The food was nice , the only thing was how they served the mussels, no longer are they served in a tower but on a plate, the sauce was very salty, and the mussels where salty and over cooked they where tiny little things.
